Personal Response:
Dead-End Job was a book I enjoyed for the most part. The only time I didn't like the book was when it ended. Although the book was pretty short, (104 pages) it was an enjoyable book.

Plot:
Dead-End Job started off with a girl named Frances working the night shift at a convenience store, trying to get enough money to go to an art college. It starts off as a typical night: customers come in and out, although not many people come this late at night so Frances works on a drawing. Although near the end of her shift a strange man comes through the door. He walks in buys a candy bar, then he asks if he can look at the drawing that Frances has hid under multiple boxes. The man then grabs the drawing from behind the counter, attempting to “admire” the art, while Frances is frantically trying to get it back. After the encounter, the man follows Frances throughout the book.

Recommendation:
I would recommend Dead-End Job to anyone who likes a short, suspenseful, and mysterious book. I would also recommend this book to people who like realistic fiction. In the end the book Dead-End Job is a book that people should consider reading.

Book Title: Dead-End Job

Personal Response: This book wasn’t a terrible book, but I don’t think it was a very good one either. Continuing, this book had a slow start to it, but once you start to read it, it got more interesting. To conclude this, I don’t think I would continue reading these types of books.

Plot Summary:
Frances, who is the main character of the book, works night shifts at a convenience store. One day, someone that is not familiar with her, interrupts her while she had been working on her art during her free time. Devin, who is the boy that comes in, claims that his father is a big-time local artist. Soon, he becomes very clingy to her, for example, shows up at places where she is uninvited. It becomes a problem for Frances, and soon enough she’s not able to get away from his presence.

Recommendations:
I would recommend Dead-End Job to someone needing to get a book report done quick. I wouldn’t recommend this book to just read it as it is for fun. There are definitely better choices to choose other than this.

Personal Response
I liked this book because there many very interesting parts. There was always something different happening. The reason I disliked this book was because of all the drama between Leo, Devin, and the main character. Besides all the drama i thought it was a pretty good book.

Plot Summary
In this book, the main characters parents owned a store. At this store almost every event in the book took place. In the beginning Leo was trying to get Kyla and Devin to date each other. They both really liked each other, but then Devin became kind of a psycho. Kyla left him and he became very mad and began to stalk her. She tried avoiding him in every way. In the end he found her in the store tried to kill her and she ended up shoving a pencil up his nose and killing him.

Recommendation
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes drama. Also if you really like teen fiction and somewhat creepy book. A reason I would not recommend this book to someone is that there are a lot of boring parts throughout this book.

The book, Dead End Job, has a very good outline. It was about a girl named Frances. She has a boyfriend named Leo. He’s not the brightest light bulb in the store, but he treats Frances really well. Frances works at a local convenience store near the highway.
One late night at work, a boy named Devin comes in, who claims to be a famous artist's son. Frances, being tired and sick of work, believes him. Devin seemed to know a lot about her, but he claims it’s because they have “chemistry.” She told her current boyfriend, Leo, about this new boy, and he already had a bad feeling about him.
More and more, this strange boy came into the store and knew more about her each time. He “bought” (stole) her really expensive things to make it seem like he had money, being a famous artists’ son and all. Leo was getting really upset with how Devin kept coming around, but he still stuck by Frances’ side. After about a month or so, Frances got sick of Devin and wanted him out of her life. She repeatedly told him that she didn’t want him around her anymore and wanted to be with Leo, but he kept getting creepier and creepier.
One late night at the store, Devin came in demanding that she not leave his life. She told him she found out he lied about being the famous artist's son. He told her not to tell anyone or he was going to kill her. He held a knife up to her throat, and she just stood there. Finally she came up with an escape plan! She stuffed a pencil up his nose and ran out of the store, only to find Leo sitting out in the parking lot to pick her up. Later on Devin was charged for attempted murder and a falsified name.
My opinion on this book was it is really good and kept my interest the entire time. I feel it could have ended differently and could have a sequel because it really needs one. I hate books that end in a complete mystery. I feel they should give a little hint or a sequel.
I would recommend this book to any boy or girl in high school. It is a little hard to understand and does use some foul language. It would be beneficial to someone in high school to read this and know that creepers are out there, and they should always know the warnings that are given in this book. I give this book at 4 out of 5 stars because it always sparked my interest, but I just didn’t like the ending.

I previously have read the book "Dead-End Job" by a fabuolus reader by the name of Vicki Grant. This book is about a girl that works night shifts at a gas station and is always bugged by this guy that has a crush on her. I will stop there because I dont want to give away to much of the book. I enjoyed this book because at the end of each chapter you eager to know what happens next. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars because I think Viki Grant could have done a better job at describing what was going on in differnt scences of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a book with suspence and a little bit of romance. Overall I thoght this book was a really good book.

This book is a very fast read for anyone in a hurry. Great story line and will keep your attention till the end. It is a great book for anyone interested in romance or suspense. The main thing one should take away from reading this book is to always be honest and to not trust a stranger.

Frances works the night shift at the Highway Buyway convenience store and divides her time between restocking the shelves and doing art. She’s working on a drawing one night and she can’t figure out why it doesn’t look right. She yells in frustration and then hears someone say, “Is everything okay?” She covers her drawing when she sees the man walking up to the register. The man’s name is Devin and he loves art too. He talks to her for a while and then has to leave. The next day, Frances tells her boyfriend Leo about Devin and he gets really jealous and doesn’t want her to talk to him again. She agrees and went back to her normal life. But Devin keeps popping up everywhere and won’t leave her alone. It starts to get really creepy and it worries Frances. Is she being stalked by some random guy? Or will he leave her alone?
The only thing I can really connect to in this book is that Frances loves art. Art is one of my biggest hobbies as well. There weren’t any other connections I could make with this book because I have never experienced the things that Frances went through. I don’t know if many others can connect to this book either but it is a very interesting read.
I think that the author did a good job of describing what the scenes looked like and I could imagine everything that happened in my head. There were many times when I couldn’t predict what was going to happen at all. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

WOW!
The one thing Orca books are good at are closing them. The characters are decent and enjoyable. And it's a comfortable short read.

Cover
Personally I think the cover could have been a bit better than a blurry hand carry cart. (Maybe a half drawn sketchpad next to a cash register?)

Story
As a story story... A Shorty. There's aren't a lot of plot twists and builds up right to the point. I have to admit Devon has a goofy charm. Leo is interesting in his imperfect way and the main character is likeable. To a degree I would have personally liked to see Devon and Leo meet at least once.

This book was very interesting to me from the start. The main character Frances seems to have a pretty boring life working at a convenient store until Devin comes into her small town to stir things up. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery. The story was pretty short but every chapter had me wondering what was going to happen next. I just wish the author would have made the story longer and added more detail to a few of the chapters because though it was very action packed, it would be nice to have a better image of what the scene looked like.

Dead-End Job is about a teenage girl named Kyla, who works at a convenience store, and the drama that comes about after Devin, the sociopathic son of a rich man, becomes interested in her. One of the major takeaways from this book is that you never know somebody's true nature and that some people are really good at hiding it. She ends up getting with Devin but breaks things off after she realizes that he's crazy, this leads him to stalking and attacking her. This book is a great teen drama and explores the characters and the concept of sociopathy pretty well. Would definitely recommend it!

It was amazing book. Its an easy to read book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants an easy read and easy to understand book to read. It does leave you hanging what is going to happen next, what happens to Devin, if Frank and Leo works things out, and if Frank goes away for Art Collage or stays with Leo and her parents. Also, the description of Devin to very little. I would give this book a 5 out 5 stars. The book also relates to my family, my friends, and my town.

Imagine having someone watch your every step and follow your every move. I read the book Dead-End Job by Vicki Grant. In this story, the main character Frances is working her normal job at the local convenience store when one night a boy named Devin comes in. Over time he seems to be everywhere she goes and knows way to much about her, even causing her boyfriend, Leo to break up with her. By the time she realizes the danger that she is in its too late and Devin is obsessed. In this book the author uses lots of suspense, for example as time goes on in the story Devin shows up at places she’s at more and more rather than every once in a while, which all leads up to the climax. Another thing the author did was he put the climax at the very end of the book rather than like half way or 3/4 trough the book. By doing this he also left the reader questioning at the end because all that happened was the climax got resolved but we don’t know about the rest of the problems. The people that would like this book is probably more girls because it’s more interesting for girls to read about stalkers since they typically deal with it more .

I recommend Orca Soundings to a lot to the high schoolers who have trouble reading, since they are high-interest, low-level books... I figured it was time to give one a try... This was a great little thriller for a reluctant, struggling reader in high school!

This book is about a young girl name Frances who works at a store she loves art, she has a best friend and a boyfriend who mean everything to her. She docent really have many friends until one day when she was working at the register she meet this new guy called Devin he claims to be new too the town and to be the son of a famous artist he gives her some advice about art. After a few days Devin comes to visit her and hangs out together they become real close. Frances starts to keep on running into Devin everywhere she goes and he always seem to be doing the same thing as her. Frances finds it great that they like the same thing they become super close and Frances comes up with the plan to hook her best friend and Devin together until he rejected her and walked out. After a while Devin and Frances start to hang out a lot more and Frances boyfriend start to get jealous and doesn't talk to her for a while. One day Frances realize that Devin has been following her and tells her they can't be friends anymore at home she gets paranoid because all this time she had no idea his been trying to take her away from her boyfriend and tried to win her over even though she did not like him. One night Frances has been working in her job late alone, and she starts to stock up can foods on the shelfs she goes to the back of the employe closet and too think she was alone in her job she finds Devin in their with table set up and a candle. Frances gets scared and tells him he has to leave but he forces her to sit down and tell her how much he loves her and how they can be together that she can forget about her boyfriend it could just be the both of them. Frances tells him they can't be together because she loves her boyfriend and she doesn't want to be friends with him anymore. Devin said if he can't have her then no one can so his going to have to kill her then kill himself so they can be together in the past life (future). Frances gets scared and comes up with a plan to stall him even though Devin is holding a knife on her throat. Frances tells him she can draw him a picture so when they both die people can remember a picture of him that the victim drew. During the middle of the session France stabs him up the nose with a color pencil and runs out for help wondering if someone can hear her, just knowing the last look she seen of Devin with blood gushing down his face and crawling on the floor. When Frances goes outside she see a car pulling up which she gets scared until she see her boyfriend comes to save her from her fear.

This book was AMAZING! because of the suspense it had throughout the whole book, I kind of knew who it was going to end but it was still such a great book. I couldn't take my eyes off this book I read it in two days thats how much I enjoyed it. This book made me realize that you can't trust anyone you meet because you never know what or who they are also what they can do to you. The person you least excepted can be the person to hurt you the most. The question that I would have for this author is that what made him write about this story? Its based on a true story, did he ever meet the people who this happened to and how did this ended for the guy that tried to do the crime? I would recommend this book to anyone because even though you may know how it could end its still a good book to read when you have some free time you can learn about many things that could happen to anyone as normal as you and makes you realize you can't trust anyone.

Personal response
I thought this book would be about a robbery or something with action, but the book was still good. The book was getting more interesting as I went along and I started reading more of it. At the start I thought it was slow but the story kept building up.

This boy was about her age and impersonated as a photographer and a secret son of a rich man the she sees go through the station. She doesn't believe him at first but he tells her a story of his step mothers children. She grows closer to him but her boyfriend doesn't think hes good news. She tries to get him and her friend to go out but he doesn't seem interested. She notices that he seems to stalk her and she curious how he can do that if he is a photographer. She tries to avoid him at all possible but he turns up everywhere.

I liked this book because it was something new for me. It talks about this girl that is trying to escape a boy who is crazy and is trying to kill her. If there was a series to this, I would definitely read the books.

Plot summary
The book Dead-End Job is about a girl who works at a convenience store by a highway. Her name is Kelleigh. She has worked at the convenience store for a really long time now and enjoys working there. One day she was cleaning up the store and something fell on her and she screamed. She realized that she wasn't alone at the store. There was a guy in there that was tall and she had never seen him before. The guy´s name was Devin. Devin is supposed to be the new guy in town and all the girls love him. Devin wanted to talk to Kelleigh more, he even pretended to be the son of a famous painter. Kelleigh liked painting herself, so she thought that maybe she would be able to become an artist. It was not long that Kelleigh found out that Devin had been stalking her. She saw him at the library, at school,
(He didn't go to the same school as her) and even saw him at a restaurant her best friend and her always went to. She was scared and told him to leave her alone and that he was insane. Kelleigh thought she was going to be okay at the time because she told Devin how she felt about him. She went to work that night and found Devin in the back of the room. Kelleigh tried to run away, but Devin caught up to her and took her to the back room. He tied her up and had a knife with him. He asked her if she could give him another chance. He tried to make a dinner for them as well. Kelleigh went along with it. Once she was untied she hit him and tried to run away again. He caught her and had the knife held against her neck. An hour passed and Devin didn't know that Kelleigh had a pocket knife with her. She untied her ropes and grabbed something off the ground and stabbed him in the eye. While he was in pain she ran outside and called the police. Kelleigh never saw him again.

Characterization
This book is based on first person view. It shows how you cannot trust strangers. It had some creative content in the book. It even said every little detail about the main character and her life as well. This book also shows the people you can really trust in the real world.

Recommendation
I would recommend this book to anybody that is trying to read a mystery/crime type of book. It talks about things that could actually happen. If you don't want to read a long book but still want an interesting book, I would recommend this book.

Whew this one had a high creepy factor. Girl meets guy who is total stalker and ends with wanting to kill her. But she's also afraid of her boyfriend and of getting him mad (that's never explained) so go figure. In the end I thought every guy around her was terrible, that she was an idiot for choosing any of them. And that the book had no clear resolution and left me disturbed and vowing to never work at a convenience store. Yeah.

On the other hand, would this book be of interest to teens? Yes, I think so. Would the reading level make it assessable to teens? Yes. Could it have been better? Yes, probably. I would personally have re-written that epilogue and tied things up a little neater. And maybe gone back to show a bit more of her relationship with Leo prior to the stalker, and maybe given us more of a hint of her family life than in the last few pages. Not having a clear set-up of either left me feeling a bit disjointed and like I didn't know her at all.

Recommended? Maybe. For a teen struggling with reading, yes. For reading just for pleasure, probably not. There are better choices out there.

I am in love with this book and think it has one of the most interesting main characters I've ever read about. In the book, the main character meets a man that turns out to be her stalker and he starts to ruin her life making it worse every day. I absolutely loved this book, it was short but that just made it easy for me to pay better attention. I loved the suspense too, especially how you aren't told where one of the important characters is until later on, making you wonder where they were and if something bad happened to them especially noting their bad relationship with the antagonist, I loved this. "there was no sign of him", (grant 76). I think this book did a great job of showing suspense and that's why I loved it so much. to summarize the plot I would say. I think this book is most likely intended for young adults to read, with the themes being too mature for kids but things like the main character being in school, working a part-time job, and dealing with high school relationships make it most likely too different for an older audience. overall this book was good in my eyes and I would like to read more from this author.
