I enjoyed A Father's Promise, it is basically about Ellis, who is wealthy but all his wealth has been unable to help with his son Trevor, who is 5 years old and sick with leukemia. He needs a bone marrow and Ellis has exhausted all options, his greedy ex-wife and his family and even the registries so now he's gone back to search for his father, he was raised by a single mother and his mother never said a word about his father just that he didn't want him, so when he gets a name, he goes to the town his mother was raised.

Sydney St Claire's life changed six months ago, her mother died in an accident and her father the police chief lost his sight, so she is struggling emotionally seeing her father in pain and isolating himself. Sydney moved back in with her father and feels guilty that she is not paying attention to the nursery business she shared with her mother when Ellis shows up on her door-step claiming Thomas is his father. Sydney is shocked and tells him no-way, her father was not a man to abandon someone and sends him away knowing he would be back. Sydney was adopted by the St. Claire's at the age of 10 and has a lot of scars, she is over-protective as she still fears abandonment so Ellis's arrival makes her afraid.

When he returns later telling her about his son he meets her father, who is happy to see him since he's an old friend's son and agrees to be tested but saying he didn't have that sort of relationship with his mother and that he can't have kids. While they wait he invites Ellis to stay in their house. Sydney then starts to notice a change in her father, he's happier and is talking and asks Ellis about it feeling hurt in the beginning when he tells her what they talked about and then letting it go.

Both of them have explosive chemistry but Ellis doesn't want to hurt Sydney, he would be leaving so they don't act on it beyond a few kisses and when bad news comes and Ellis is about to leave she comes up with an idea, to find his real father and invite Trevor over to stay.

The book was a easy read and the characters very real, you could feel Ellis's desperation over his son and surprise discovering how a real family is. He wants Sydney in his life and knows that she has some fears.

“A Father’s Promise” is the story of Sydney and Ellis.

The hero is searching for his long lost father to save his son, who is in remission from leukemia. He traces a man down, who is blind and struggling with depression after the death of his wife. However he is confronted by the man’s adopted daughter, our heroine who protective of her father - and she does it while taking care of their household and business.

The first half is an emotional read with a desperate man who wants to find his father, and a kind hearted heroine who loves the people in her life. The second half is about dealing with disappointments and hope.
I really enjoyed how vulnerable and open our leads were, father son moments really got to me and the sex scenes were beautiful. It’s a very hopeful book with well written characters and loads of angst.

Enjoyed it
