When trail-worn Cole Jasper swaggers back into her life making demands, Abbie is not about to sacrifice her hard-won independence, even if he did once make a vow to protect her and her child, but Abbie's attitude changes when Cole is hauled down to Texasto stand trial for murder and in the process
Kristen Heitzmann is the award winning author of contemporary romantic suspense, psychological suspense, and historical series. An artist and musician, she'll also be found hiking the Rocky Mountain trails.
This is my favorite of the series so far. Abbie encounters a ridiculous amount of danger and life-threatening obstacles throughout these books, but I love her anyway. And Cole is wonderful. I loved the slow-growing romance, the overcome fears, and the tension between Cole and Abbie throughout the story. The ending had me breathless and wanting more.
I think this is my favorite of the series. We're finally more into my favorite leading man: Cole. Cole seems so hard on the surface, but his gentle treatment of Jenny shows that he has a soft side too. His devotion to Abbie for so many years is a true testament to how a man should love a woman. But I also like how the author kept it realistic as to Abbie's grief for her late husband. Who's to say how long grief will last for a spouse you loved with all your heart and soul? She might love Cole too, but of course, she'll have conflicting thoughts and feelings of betrayal to her first love.
I also love the attention given to Cole's soul. Heitzmann has a wonderful way of weaving Christian teachings into her writings in a way that is natural and never comes off as preachy. Another action-packed book, this is the one I really couldn't put down. Read it in less than a day. Lol.
Yes, our heroine Abbie still drives me up a wall with about everything she does. So it sure says a lot about the author when I can rate a book five stars even when I can't stand the main character.
It's credit to the unbelievably fast plot that I could barely put the book down. Despite being irritated every time Abbie did anything (whether action, word, or thought), I quite enjoyed the plot advancements that followed.
As for the other characters, they are great, Will and Cole both. Jenny is a sweet girl who represents an interesting side of an otherwise unlikable person. Same with Marcy--it's actually quite amusing that Abbie's brother married an unlikable person. This author knows what real life is like.
Cole's faith journey is very well done, and I like how the quiet humility is shown, although But this is actually a clever touch, because the reader is then in the same boat as Abbie.
Book is certainly recommended for anyone who has read the previous books in the series. If you can handle Abbie in the first four, you can handle her here. She really doesn't change, although she does come to biblical realizations.
The best one in the series. Very adventurous with nonstop action that kept me reading and this came o it what? 27 years ago? That means it’s stood the test of time.
**Update: see what I have written in my update to the first book in the series. This book did not survive round two of the "purge" from my personal collection.**
I still stand by my statement that I love the third book the best. That doesn't mean that I didn't like this one. I'd have to rank this as my second favorite of the series. I love the fact that Heitzmann revealed more of Cole's character. He was there, obviously, in the first three of the series but in this one he really came alive. The third book was all about Abbie's growth. This one was about Cole's. This series is one big story into which each book plays it's part. I love seeing that unfold. Plus, I always liked Cole a whole lot better than Monte. :)
The third book in this series, Abbie has already lost one husband, and is not prepared to lose her foreman and close friend. She goes to bat for him and steps into a dangerous situation. Cole Jasper has been accused of killing a saloon girl in El Paso, TX and there is a bounty on his head. Trusting God and a Comanche guide, she helps Cole escape and is introduced to Birdie, a young woman who will eventually live with her to get away from an immoral lifestyle and possible death. Cole is a stronger believer at this time in some ways than Abbie, but her life will teach her to depend on the Lord more and more.
One things for sure, life with Abbie is never dull! Book 4 packed in more adventure, suspense, drama and romance topped off with some life lessons on faith. This isn't my favorite book in the series, but it is a REALLY good read. Obviously, since I zoomed through it in a matter of hours today! I can't wait to see what happens next in Book 5!
still not happy with the fact that Monte is dead. I so loved him and Abbie together. I did start to like Cole a little better between the last book and this one. I just dont dig him and Abbie together.
I was really let down! I think the first three books were really good, and probably the 3rd was the best yet. I expected so much from this book but it just didn't do it for me. There was some action, but overall I found it a bit flat.
Abbie is headstrong, talented, and beautiful. What else do you want in a protagonist? Placed in the scenic backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, this series is a good read. I don't own the series, but I always check them out from the library if they're there and I'm in the mood.
Honors Disguise by Kristen Heitzmann – Not gonna lie, I was heartbroken along with Abbie. But I did love how Cole’s character developed in this one! Happy Reading!
I really enjoy this Christian historical western fiction series . I have number 5 left to read and will miss the series when I get it finished. Very enjoyable and exciting.
