Nice cookbook with a wide variety of recipes. Nothing too crazy, no strange ingredients. Just a really nice collection.

This book explains about how certain foods are responsible for raising your blood sugar an consequently causing you to gain wait. It also explains how these certain foods can contribute to onset diabetes, heart disease and other medical conditions. These foods are categorized as having a low, medium or high Glycemic Index. Also, foods that metabolize more quickly into sugar during digestion are called "Fast Carbs", while those that turn into sugar more slowly and so not raise blood sugar as drastically are "Slow Carbs." This book explains how eliminating Fast Carbs from the diet will aid in weight lose.

The recipes included here are decent, but not exceptional. It reads much like a textbook, but the layout of the text is not entirely reader friendly. Overall, it is a fair book, with good basic information about a healthy diet and some nice, if not overwhelming recipes. If you are trying to lose weight (and who isn't, am I right?) this is a good place to begin overhauling your diet.

One big change I made was eliminating white rice, which had been a staple in my diet since college. White rice, I have learned, is a Fast Carb that raises your blood sugar quickly and contributes to weight gain. Since excluding rice (and stepping up my exercise), I have seen a noticeable improvement in both my weight and overall health.
