Prelude To A Seduction

Rate this book
David Broussard is a handsome, successful businessman with the unsavory reputation of a player. He’s known for his allure, charming personality, and ability to draw and seduce women. He’s gifted by nature with an unbelievably erotic scent that emanates from his body—natural pheromones that attract women in droves. Having used this advantage in the past with great success, he expects the same results as he sets his sights on Sarona Maxwell. He finds himself fascinated to the point of obsession with Sarona and has made it his priority to woo her, to seduce her, and to get her into his bed. However, in his quest to captivate and capture, he finds Sarona is more woman than he’s bargained for, and he’ll need more than cunning, charm, and nature’s gift to achieve his goal.

Sarona is undeniably attracted to the charisma and roguish good looks of David Broussard, and like any red-blooded female alive she’s fallen victim to his intoxicating scent. Unfortunately, his reputation for being on the prowl and always in search of his next conquest precedes him. She has no illusions he has any interest in her. Considering her size and the fact that she’s black, she’s sure she doesn’t fit his usual preference for eye candy. She sees herself as merely a spectator, observing from a distance his penchant to hunt, and she watches him play his game of pursuit, seduction, and surrender.

Sarona has no idea that the rules of the game have changed. She doesn’t realize that there’s no such thing as being safe standing on the sidelines and that now, suddenly she’s become the prey set in the sights of the hunter.

With a sweet tooth for pastries, a soft heart for animals and an imagination that rivals Dorothy's OZ and Alice’s Wonderland (albeit on the steamier side of fantasy) Lotchie Burton writes spicy Contemporary Romance and Romantic Suspense. An avid reader and hopelessly hooked on happily-ever-after’s, Lotchie writes suspenseful tales where sparks fly, and fires ignite. Strong plots with diverse characters, her stories are filled with feisty heroines and the hard edged, protective, no-nonsense men determined to love them. A New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author wannabe, her name isn’t synonymous with any bestseller’s lists—yet. But she’s working on it.

When I first started reading this book, there were a couple of things I noticed that rubbed me the wrong way. This doesn't mean however that the book was bad, so don't grab your pitchfork and start to rally the townsfolk. My complaints are minor and rather silly in some aspects but they are what they are.

My first real issue, (and this is the only real issue I have) is that in some spots in the book, its very wordy. Sometimes there was just so much in a sentence that I had to stop and go back and reread it a couple of times to make sure I was understanding everything she was trying to convey. Put down the shovel... let me explain! I write how I talk, so naturally there is a ton of material crammed into one sentence. I do this because I feel that if I don't include every possible detail, that the reader or opposite party is going to miss crucial points in the story or conversation. By doing this, I have created a monster of a sentence and more than likely lost my reader along the way. It's hard to remember that keeping it simple or leaving some things out is a good idea because as a writer, you just want your readers to experience every detail. For me when I am reading though, I would have to say that sometimes more is less? I would also like to state, that I only really felt this way in the beginning of the book, which brings me to my next point. :)

At the start of the book, I felt like Lotchie was unsure of herself and her writing capabilities. Like she didn't quite have her footing and she was seeking it out through the pages as she went along. This is NOT a bad thing, its just an observation (and I could very well be wrong in that observation). The farther into the book I got, the more I could feel her confidence growing. It was seeping off the pages and I wanted to high five her and yell "Atta Girl!". She made me feel empowered through her characters, and their actions. Every picture was painted perfectly and no scene was left hanging. For a couple hours, I was Sarona and by the end of the book, I needed a cold shower and a drink. lol That right there is great writing!

Most erotic romance novels are chalked full of repetitive sex scenes where the woman just kinda lays there and takes it and you don't really feel any different afterwards. They lack finesse and class and for me, that gets old and tired. Lotchie managed to have all the hot, steamy smut right alongside the intelligence and class - a lethal combination for any female reader with a brain and a passion for erotica. I felt like I walked away with more than just lady wood (and yes I just said that. lol).

So now we come to something that is very silly, but I just have to ask - what is with all the brass? Holy Crap, it was everywhere! lol Am I missing a crucial piece of interior design here? If I am, someone let me know and STAT! I felt like there was going to be a hotel band break out at any moment and start playing on all the decor. Novel idea, and facetious I know, but I almost emailed her to ask. haha This part really had nothing to do with the storyline itself, but I had to throw it in because I would have felt incomplete in my review if I hadn't. <3

Alright, so, I have covered everything but the characters and the basic storyline. This is where things get interesting...

We have David Broussard, (I didn't google this, but it sounds French to me. anyway..) he was, at first a very creepy guy to me. I gotta say, I almost had it out for him in the beginning because of his behavior. He had a very stalker esque way about him and he came off like a control freak. At times I wondered if he was bipolar. He would refer to Sarona in a very possessive manner and silently treated her like property rather than a person. He also gave off the idea that he was madly in love with her, but it was never clearly stated in the book, so it's probably me just reading into things. It just kinda had me on edge about the kind of character he was going to turn into. Playboy's aren't usually possessive, as they never stick around long enough to really stake a claim on any one person. So I was a tad worried and a little concerned for Sarona. Now don't get me wrong, I love a man that will take control and command attention, but I don't want him to radiate crazy. Ya know what I mean?
My whole thought on him was one of those, "Yes David, we know that you are irresistibly turned on by a woman who seemingly detests you, but lets not make this a terrifying game of cat and mouse.". As it turns out, I was way off about David, and I owe him an apology. lol For him, Sarona was exotic and unreachable - the Holy Grail of women, if you will - she was also the pinnacle of his pent up sexual frustration. You see, soon after he met Sarona, he realized that he wanted and needed more from a woman then just flippant wild sex. He needed her, to conquer her, to justify to himself and everyone else, that he was more than just an image and was actually a person of substance. Emotionally he needed somewhere to park his heart, and he I think, found it in her, which is why the build up was so awkward at times. I actually start to champion him later on in the book. I think you will too. ;)

Next we have Sheila; she is our "villain". The stick thin, blonde, clingy, can't ever take a hint, rather brainless, plastic surgery ad. She is a narcissistic, half empty wading pool with money. Actually, lets just call her what she really is - a jealous ho bag with a spoiled princess complex. At every turn she tries to either get David back in her bed, or attempt to make a fool out of him. "Boohoo! The wealthy, handsome, charismatic, ex playboy has turned over a new leaf and realized that you are superficial trash and you can't hack it." I really wanted to punch her in the throat, that's how horrible she is. lol Thank God Sarona has some class, otherwise it would have been like MMA all up in the hotel bar, and floor seats would have been cheap. >.< There really isn't much more I can say about Sheila, that you won't find out for yourself when you read the book. So enjoy that! ;)

Moving on to Sarona. The lovely, feisty, insecure and self doubting, Sarona. She is beautiful in many ways but she fails to see any value in herself. Always suspecting an ulterior motive, never letting herself live her life, and constantly shutting people out. This is one of the reasons she avoids David. She doesn't think he genuinely wants her and if he does, then it must be about sex, because he is out to conquer the world one pair of panties at a time. She doesn't want to be another notch in his already whittled down bedpost and apparently thinks that he isn't capable of real sincerity, so she entertains his advances but makes it clear she isn't interested. His jungle fever will have to be saved for the next unsuspecting female to come along. Right here is where I wanted to roll my eyes at her. lol Being on the outside and looking in, it is so easy to judge a person and their behaviors based on your view of their world, but how often do we have the same problems in our own life? I couldn't roll my eyes at her and give her a how to, because I have done the very same thing. I try to remain neutral and not step over the line between objectivity and hypocrisy, but sometimes its happens. Don't believe me? just try it! So, Sarona eventually falls prey to our Adonis after her best friend, Joyce, (who I want to make a clone of and carry around in my pocket) basically tells her to lighten up and stop punishing him for crimes he hasn't committed. To live her life with no regrets and appreciate the fun while it lasts. That is great advice! A little nugget I intend to harbor in my arsenal for a long time. lol Anyway, after Sarona gives in to her obviously deep and impatient need to be with David, she finds out that he is in fact, a wonderful person. She should be face palming herself for denying this man for so long! I won't tell you about all the sex between them, because that is one of the best parts of the book and I don't wanna ruin it for ya. Just know that she goes from gazelle to lioness in a short period of time. Wild Kingdom, Baby!! (you'll get the reference after you read the book).

Now our lovebirds ride off into the sunset on their screaming O faces, and that's the last of that.

All in all, I would say that the book was over the top great. It sucked me in and made me swoon. Lord knows I can't say the other effects it had on me, but I'm sure you can get an idea. I laughed and gasped and felt like bitch slapping people at times (by people I mean Sheila), and it was all around a fun read. The erotica in the book was well written and sexy and I take my hat off to Lotchie for being able to turn me on with relative ease. ;) If you are going to read this book, you might want to grab a fan, cause you are gonna need it.

Prelude to a Seduction is the perfect name for this book because what a seduction it is! A hot and very sensual read with thorough and descriptive love scenes that will make you blush. Our hero, sexy playboy David Broussard relentlessly pursues and never gave up till he gets the strong-minded Sarona Maxwell to even speak to him. It's quick, realistic and true-to-life funny. With a white hero and black heroine, you'll realize color and race have nothing to do with love or making love!

David Broussard has crossed paths with Sarona Maxwell at professional events for almost a year and has tried to work his way into her good graces. It hasn't happened. She's too aware of his reputation as a player, a man who picks up one blonde, deep-as-Saran-wrap, model-thin woman after another and lets them down just as fast. Black, voluptuous and too smart to fall for his lines, Sarona has fended him off. But this time, David intends to win. He mounts a campaign as carefully as any skilled general to convince her he wants something different with her. Neither Sarona nor his reputation will make it easy for him to get what he's been fantasizing about.

Burton knows how to raise--and maintain--the sexual tension of her story as she makes traveling to conferences for work a lot more interesting than most of us have experienced. "Prelude to a Seduction" delivers exactly what the title describes--a delicious, sexy, sensuous, build-up to a hot seduction.

Anticipation. Lotchie Burton builds the sexual tension in Prelude to a Seduction from the very first sentence. I love that sexy ‘player’ David Broussard is the one that denies himself, delaying his own gratification until he reaches his ultimate goal of seducing Sarona Maxwell. That doesn’t mean that we don’t get a peek into his every fantasy along the way. David is an experienced man and his thoughts about Sarona are detailed and anything but pure.

Sarona is worth the wait. A fundamentally shy person, she nevertheless stands up to the people who try to trample her underfoot. She also has to face her own prejudices about David – a white man who prefers skinny white women; a playboy who is only interested in a shallow, brief relationships. When the seduction of her body is finished, she’ll have to decide whether to risk her heart.

Keep the ice water handy – this is a super hot erotic romance!

Prelude to a Seduction, I hope is just the beginning for Lotchie Burton. This book had me hooked from start to finish. I could not get enough of how hard David Broussard, a wealthy white playboy, obsessed over an unsuspecting black full-bodied Sarona Maxwell for about a year while denying himself any physical pleasure, saving himself just for her. On a mission to obtain Sarona's body, David finds his true self and realizes he wants more___ all of her ___ mind, body, and soul. He struggles to combat his bad boy persona, by trying unsuccessfully to avoid an old flame, and by contradicting every preconceived opinion Sarona has of him. Eventually, he wins and has Sarona wanting more and more and more........ And leaving me wanting to know more about the future of these two. This book left me with a brand new prospective on bathroom countertops............. HOT! I can't wait for the sequel!

I have simply fallen in love with this author. I discovered this week that I had brought first two books but had not read them. After reading book One I immediately went on to book 2 and then lucky for me book 3 came out 3 days ago. I read all 3 books back to back.

The 3 stories are standalone but each book stars a character from the previous story.

What I love about this author is all her leading ladies are strong and sassy and all her leading men are alpha males, who love, cherish and protect their women. They are not afraid to be strong and take charge but they love their women and are not afraid to show that.

I am so in love with all her characters. I would like to see them dialogue more about their issues and how they intend to overcome them but I love how Ms Burton tells her stories. There is drama but the drama is filled with LOVE which is what I love the most. The angst is not the horrible kind.

This is David and Sarona's story. David is in hot pursuit of Sarona who is trying to resist his charms because she does not want to be a another knotch on his bed post. Saraona is a classy lady and when one of David's exes tries to show her ass Saraona takes her down with style. She did not let the undignified woman prevent her from exploring her relationship with David. I totally loved and respected that about her. The story had me laughing out loud at different points.

It was simply a great read and had me hooked. Ms Burton has been added to my list of favourite authors. I would highly recommend this story to all romance lovers like me.

Author Lotchie Burton has written an interracial romance geared to take your breath away in Prelude to a Seduction. I fell in love with this heroine from the get-go. She was feisty, sassy and not about to fall for hero playboy David Broussard’s lines. I adored Sarona Maxwell’s independence, and her unwillingness to bend her principles for anyone. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Sarona stood up to the vixen, Sheila. It wasn’t what I expected to happen, and all the better for it. This romance has enough steam to fill a sauna, so bring a fan, and enjoy a great read!

From the very opening paragraphs, I knew this story was going to be sizzling hot - and I wasn't disappointed.

David is a ladies' man with just one lady on his mind - Sarona. His reputation has preceded him, though, and she's not going to be easily swept up by his advances. A confrontation with a jealous former girlfriend further complicates matters just as it seems David might be making progress in his budding relationship with Sarona.

Once their passion ignited, it was "bring a fan" level of hot. A fun read, this is a book that won't be quickly forgotten.

This book is hot!! David is determined in getting Sarona in his bed in his life he goes after her and gets her who could so no to David? Sarona did at least she tried but David was so irresistible and passionate she finally did what I would do she gave in and oh what a pleasure that was for her. My only problem with book is I would have liked to have read a little more about this couple because there is certainly more to their story.

Great Read

I totally enjoyed reading about reformed playboy David and the woman who made him realize that he wanted more. They reconnect at a conference and while they are acquainted, David has only five days to make Sarona NOTICE him and give him a chance. They are both mature interesting people. The only thing that would have made this hot book better would have been an epilogue to let us know where they were AFTER the conference.

This was an okay read. I didn't love it or hate it.

I liked that the h was smart and confident and could hold her own in any situation. The H was a womanizer but was honest about it. He didn't lie to women to get them into bed. He was unrepentent about seeing women in only one way but he wasn't irredeemable - we watch him change over the course of the book as the h changes from merely a sexual obsession to someone he develops real emotions for.

The h frustrated me because she didn't want to be just another notch (understandable), was afraid she'd succumb anyway, but (the frustarting part) she kept acting as if seducing her was something he was going to do to hurt her on purpose. But he never was the kind of man who went after women who didn't know the score. It's always been my opinion that women who choose to be with an admitted and known womanizer get pain they deserve. Should men be better than that? Yes. But if you know what he's like to start with and sleep with him anyway, then that's on you... imho. (oops, rant over).

I also didn't understand why she got so mad about the hotel room. At that point, she should have started to build some trust in his real feelings, but even beyond that, she had given herself permission to be seduced by him - why would it matter that he had 'targeted' her from the get go and was the source of her upgraded room? Once they got to a certain point during the week, he had admitted his obsession with her, so finding out that he had paid for her room shouldn't really have changed anything. I guess it seemed like a convenient excuse to be mad at him in order to protect herself. I was glad that the author didn't drag it out and make it a bigger issue than it was. I felt it was true to the her character that after her first blush of anger, she was willing to hear the H out and really listen to what he had to say - which, of course, made all of the differnce to the HEA (or was it an HFN?).

Though it was a middle of the road read for me, I would read the author again.

I love David's single-minded determination to get Sarona into his bed, but at times the other characters (particularly the sleezy dude trying to pick up Sharona and David's ex) seemed juvenile. His ex was like those mean girls in a high school cafeteria out to bully everyone. These people are supposed to be adults at a business conference, yet acted like kids on an overnight school trip.

Lotchie never explained why Sharona was so wary of David. Yes, he was a playboy, but she was a single woman in her thirties and suddenly found her fantasy man trying to give her private parts some much needed attention. I understand she was afraid of getting her heart broken, but seriously? She would rather sleep with a vibrator than have an affair with sex-incarnate?

Maybe a note about how she had gotten burned by men like him in the past would have shed some light on her refusal. I liked that she did ultimately turn her brain off and surrender to her feelings, but David tended to become annoyingly wordy at those times. Actions speak louder than words, hon. Two days in bed isn't much time to fall in love, but I still think David's long, heartfelt confessions were excessive.

I found myself really enjoying this book. David (WM) was living the typical rich playboy lifestyle but after meeting and talking to Sedona (BW) he found he was attracted to her and wanted more from her. But she wouldn't give him the time of day because his reputation proceeded him even though she was attracted to him. After a year and still nothing David still wanted her and for the last six months he was coming up with a plan to get her. He made sure to always be around this time she wasn't getting away.

the plot was really weak. yes he wanted her for a long time. she was antisocial...ok. there was never really anything deeper about the characters. he was a womanizer and she had one friend. that's it! other than that it was a homeschool game of cat and mouse with some big words thrown together.
