This final book in the trilogy was very well done. The pacing was breakneck for 98% of the time, which made the pages fly and kept me up late reading.

The time travel element is still interesting; the two main characters Shar and Dar (lol just realized that sounds silly together) arrive at a different, later time than the golden dragon Turiana. The pov's are split between the two humans, raising their son in a small forgotten village and Turiana helping her young hatch while waiting for the time to catch up.

Things have gone from bad to worse in the world, the big baddie Balaan has made a near eternal winter, rules with an iron fist, and has found a treatment for the wasting illness affecting dragons with magic - sacrificial style.

A little ragamuffin named Telemark "escapes" Balaan's jail (who it turns out is Hapwith's grandson) and runs through the little village where Dar and Shar are raising their son Bar (I'm kidding) Fort.

Telemark, the embodiment of a nice guy with a chip on his shoulder (understandably when you hear his backstory), is chased out.

Fort is kidnapped, Dar thinks by Turiana whose time finally caught up with theirs, Shar thinks otherwise. The two split and go on their respective journeys.

Not a dull moment for any of the three; Telemark, Sharlin or Dar.

I did see the ending coming, but its the kind that anybody would get behind; a triumphant win where all pool their power for one big blast, in a sense.

Its also left slightly open at the end, as if the author thought maybe there could be more. Unfortunately the author has sadly passed and these books are a bit old, so I doubt more will come from this world. Its up to your interpretation on the ending, and isn't that fun?

Would I recommend it? Absolutely.

Now, major spoiler for one character that just smacks you in the face. I promise it doesnt spoil the story.
Hapwith, the guy who was kinda a sleezebag in book 2? Who did a nearly unforgiveable thing, but stayed behind to hold the line? Mans is dead. Was tortured by Balaan for years, sent free, had a wife, became an alcoholic and just had a TERRIBLE life. Feels like someone really, really hated Hapwith.
