When it comes to going after what I want, I’ve stood on the sidelines my entire life. With the biggest Juneteenth celebration that Scottsdale has ever seen approaching, the guys I’ve been friends with for over a decade thrust me onto the planning committee and made me Mr. Black Scottsdale.
The only problem is, I’ve watched these friends of mine take to bed the women of my fantasies, clown me for always standing in the background, and convince me to play wingman to their maverick. That was all fine and dandy until I saw … her. A woman representing all my desires wrapped in one beautiful package. Ignoring our attraction isn’t an option. Now, all bets are off.
In the Baes of Juneteenth multi-author series, we invite you to journey to different cities to celebrate Juneteenth with the men of Mr. Black, an organization honoring Black love, Black culture, and Black history.
Oh my goodness, readers, these guys are so yummy. A quiet man who loves history, and likes to read is all kinds of sexy. I am enjoying each authors presentation and their take on Juneteenth.. The love connection part is the sweetest icing for each cake..
The only part that vaguely interested me in the beginning was when Preston interacted with his brother. Preston likes to mainsplain. This is supposed to be him getting carried away with loving history. Not convinced.
I'm not sure if it was supposed to be vernacular or not, but the heroine thinking about the hero's history lecture with a clear grammatical error was pretty much it for me.
Honestly, I really want to like this book and this series. I had high hopes. But, so far, even the better books in the series are very thin on plot. For starters. And, yet, I will continue to read at least one or two more.
He was the nerdy, fine one they always overlooked until he decided to stop playing it safe. Always the wingman, never the winner… until she showed up and flipped his whole world.
Angela Seals gave us a lowkey king with quiet confidence, hidden heat, and a heart ready to risk it all. Second best? Not anymore. This man is stepping up and he’s looking damn good doing it.
It just goes to show that some in that other culture has no thought about distorting the truth especially when they can rain what they intend as scandal against Black people! The compromises we as an ethnic group have to make when we grant those without talent the use of our talent boggles the mind because they behave as if their lies have no consequences so I was truly glad to know Preston, Violet and the Mr. Black Organization not only took legal action against that publication they also hit them where they really hurt, in their wallet! One can only hope the fallout would drive this poor excuse of a newspaper out of business! When we think about how far we have come and continue to excel above our detractors, I can't help but wonder how much we could have accomplished and how far ahead we as an entire group would be if the hate, jealousy, racism and violent behavior of those who purport to be civil had left us alone to be us and create, innovate and invent the way God destined us to do before satanic people tried to destroy us and all we have and continue to contribute to this nation? Thank you Angela Seal and all of the authors for bringing this important part of our history to the forefront! In the words of Maya Angelou, And Still We Rise!!!!!!!!!
And once again, this series just keeps getting better and enriching with each new storyline!! The intertwining of history and romance…what can I say!! Keep bringing it on!! 🔥
You don’t always have to stand front and center to garner the right attention! Preston was a background person until it was time not to be! When he met Violet, he stood in the back but not for long! Their interactions with each other brought out the best in both of them allowing them to work together seamlessly!! Of course, there will always be haters and naysayers, but with everyone working together, those folks were dealt with in the best way!!
This author did an excellent job with Scottsdale! I felt like I was right there enjoying that parade along with the other spectators!! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it! Kudos, Angela!! Very well done!! 💜
You could say that Preston is a sexy nerd. Then need meets the beautiful Violet. You could tell that these two had sparks right from the start. She worked for a rag newspaper, but wanted to cover the true story about Preston and the Mr. Black organization. The wrote an excellent article. However, the rag newspaper didn’t publish anything the way she wrote it! Preston was furious with Violet. I’m just glad that he gave her a chance to explain what happened, and that she quit the paper. They got a reputable paper to cover the correct story. I’m so glad that things worked out between them, so they could make a life together. I loved the Juneteenth parade that Preston put in place! I’m loving this series of Juneteenth stories! Thank you Angela Seals! ❤️🔥
This was a great read filled with knowledge, wisdom, humor and romance. Two all about business people in need of love, friendship and intimacy find each other aththe right time and understanding. The entire journey is sweet and enduring. Preston is the man who always has the plans but allows others to thrive and shine. Violet is in full bloom about her journalism but is dehydrated in love. They each find netter and stronger versions of themselves and discover each other while building their local Juneteenth festivities. The parade they pit together was epic and the relationship a beautiful tribute to black love. This was a great read 📚👏🏾❣️
“Mr Second Best: Baes of Juneteenth” was another great read! From the prologue to the epilogue Preston & Violet ♥️💚🖤were/are soul mates. …and FYI, you’re second to none‼️Meanwhile, even under the pretense of shadowing for the Mr Black Scottsdale article, these two intellectual afrocentric historian-bookworms compliment & edify each other🤎✊🏾🤎. Cool!. …”Both of you were into some weird sh?$ like history, the biography of random activists, & Kunta Kinte.” 🤨🤣😂 Another author & fictional couple I want to add to my literary repertoire.👏🏿👏🏾👏🏽💐🥰‼️
I loved this book and I have been intrigued by Preston Stone since he was introduced in book 1. This man thought he was second best, but he was first choice for the right one. I really liked Preston’s personality and how direct he was and unapologetic about his love for history and his people. I loved the way Violet and Preston complemented each other and had so many things in common. This was a sweet and cute short read.
I love this series of stories you get romance and you get history lesson as well. I don't know why Preston felt second best because clearly he is a man of integrity, intelligence and loyalty. That would make him first class to me. If you want to experience Juneteenth and learn some things you may not have known then this book and the others in the series are for you.
As soon as Preston met Violet, he knew she was the woman for him. Even though he has always thought of himself as second best, he was determined to make Violet his. I enjoyed the vibe between Preston and Violet as well as how they got to know one another during the planning of the Juneteenth celebration. Preston really did a great job planning a special and unique event showcasing the history of us as a people. This was a great book in all aspects.
It was an ok read. He was passionate about history and always played the background when it came to the chase for women. I love black history too so I was excited for this type of man. The author wanted to show that he was a brain whose desire was a woman with a brain so bad that I got bored. The journalist was fan girling so bad over him that I got annoyed. I liked the interactions with his brother tho. His Juneteenth festival was awesome! I couldn’t get with the romance.
Mr. Black of Scottsdale, Arizona, meticulous, educated, and cautious. Honoring his ancestors, and teaching were his claim to fame. Becoming Mr. Black was a dream come true to honor his grand father. Trusting the wrong person could cause him everything and destroy every he worked hard to achieve to celebrate Juneteenth.
This was a love story about Violet Wallace and Preston Scott. They met when she approached him to write an article on Mr Black and Nineteenth for her newspaper. Once she began shadowing him each day to gather information for her article they realized they were strongly attracted to each other. After a mishap at the newspaper that led to their happily ever after.
I really liked Prescott, what I didn't like how everyone seemed to call lame although they were his friends and a joke. Prescott was involved in so many good and worthwhile things. He sat back in the background until he met Violet. He and Violet worked well together. Good couple.
Overall this was a cute book and a nice palette cleanser in between other books for me. The ending of the book was very rushed for me. I do understand that this was a novella, so it was meant to be short, but it could’ve been a little bit longer just to give a little bit more description rather than just kind of rushing everything and putting it in an epilogue.
I enjoyed Preston and Violet's story. His didn't understand him but he knew what he wanted and recognized when she came. The Juneteeth celebration was awesome. I cried with the old man in the wheelchair.
Short sweet and to the point. Preston Scott met Violet and there was an instant attraction of the mines but the devil was busy and the Rumor Room caused a stumble but all's well when you are willing to fight together.
I loved Preston, Mr. Black Scottsdale, and Violet. I was happy that Preston finally found someone who loved history as much as he did. The connection of Violet's Dad being a past member of the organization was a nice touch.
Not going to lie, I was expecting more from Preston’s story. It wasn’t bad and I still recommend reading it but it was lacking something. Anyway, his brother and he are freaking hilarious. That gravesite seen was too funny.
Preston was a bookworm but he became Mr Black of Scottsdale. Victoria was a journalist who had an idea. These two came together from instant attraction. A lie almost caused them everything. Great read by a great author.
Preston was not like the other guys he like someone with a great mind and in steps Violet who's dad was a member of the Mr. Black organization . She wanted to do a story on the organization and Preston was the man but what started as a job turned into a love connection.
I liked Preston and Violet’s story. They had good chemistry and good base for their relationship. This is my first time reading a book written by Angela Seals. I liked her style and will be reading more of her work. Very good Juneteenth series.
Enjoyed reading more about June teenth and the sexy Mr blacks. Learning so much about history while experiencing some handsome men dedicated to making everyone knowledgeable about out history and present.
This book here!!!! By far the best so far. If you don't know African American History is series us for you. It opens eyes, minds and makes you want to know more.
