If going to Mass and taking Communion has become just another routine for you, don’t assume that indifference is an ordinary part of growing mature in the Faith. On the your love of Communion should be growing stronger. You can strengthen it now with this wise book from a little-known saint, Peter Julian Eymard.
St. Peter shows you how surprisingly easy it is to break out of the dullness that can settles into your soul, obscuring the glory of meeting your Lord in Communion. After his mother's death, he entered the novitiate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in June 1822. His first attempt at seminary ended due to illness, but, after his father's death, he was admitted to the major seminary in Grenoble. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Grenoble on July 20, 1834.
In 1839, he joined the Marists, the Society of Mary, and worked as a spiritual advisor for seminarians and priests. In 1845, he was named Provincial Superior of the Society of Mary.
He founded two communities dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament: the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, in 1856, and - with the encouragement of John Vianney, the Cure d'Ars - the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, in 1858.
He was declared venerable in 1908, beatified by Pope Pius XI on 12 July 1925, and canonized by Pope John XXIII on 9 December 1962. Pope John Paul II named Eymard "Apostle of the Eucharist".
This book helped me in a time of great struggle, when I began to lose in motivation in attending mass. It reminds one of the glories of Jesus Christ, and prompts such a fiery devotion during communion that it’s hard to think one went without it before! St. Peter Julian Eymard - Pray for us!
Recommended to anyone who desires to develop the love for the Holy Eucharist. I'm too far from it but because of reading the life of St. Carlo Acutis i understood i had to develop this love, the love.
I assure you that there is more to this book than these following ideas that have stuck with me from St. Peter Eymard:
One is that if we are lukewarm towards Communion, that is one good reason to keep going regularly because Communion is like a furnace of love and He will burn us with His love. So if we aren't communicating for ourselvesthen we should go for His sake (I think it as visiting a friend that is alone beacuse not so many people regard the Eucharist as He deserves).
Two, the Eucharist gives us the strength for the daily problems of life. If we desire to be saints we will have it a bit difficult than the rest of people who doesn't. To confront life we need to got to Eucharist because literally He gives us the strenght to keep fighting.
And Three, Jesus Christ wants for us to become part of His body, He wants us to be Him and He wants to live in us, so that our actions are sanctified and please God the Father, recognizing in us Jesus. Therefore we are transformed in his children. He wants to live through us.
Advice from a Lover of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament
This is a classic for all devotees of EUCHARISTIC ADORATION. HELPUL for Catholics who have true Fairh in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
Excellent, nugget-sized advice on the beauty of the Eucharist and how to connect more with our Lord through this sacrament. I would suggest reading one chapter a day or before each Mass as a meditation before receiving Jesus.
I haven't read the book but this version is *abridged*. I don't know how much was abridged; nor do I know if it really impacts the text. It seems the original, unabridged version, Holy Communion, is out of print.
