Summer at Tiffany - A Memoir is an enjoyable recollection of a rare time, a unique time for youth in 1940s America. Written by Marjorie Hart, this book is a lovely recalling of when she and her best friend, Marty Garrett, found jobs at Tiffany & Co., in New York, during the summer of 1945. Both Hart and Garrett were college - age debutantes from Ohio. New York was The Big City, where it felt the whole world was there. Ms. Hart's memoir is a delightful, light read. Filled with the coming of age experiences many women their age were experiencing, like going to Jack Dempsey's speak easy club, meeting the man whom she would eventually marry, seeing actress Marlene Dietrich at Tiffany's and being awed by her presence. One event that stood out for me was her the moment she discovered Japan had surrendered, ending the Second World War. The excitement, relief and unbridled joy of the author, her friends and people upon hearing the news is truly a moment to remember. This is a lovely book, good for any season, fall, winter, spring or summer. Recommended.
