Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.
Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.
In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.
Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.
In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.
In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.
After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.
Thor versus Thor! This was inevitable, but still heartbreaking as Thor has begun to accept his unworthiness, so much so, he even gave up his name. Thor no more! From this moment on, the unworthy Thor shall be called Odinson.
My favorite sequence of this first arc has to be when the new Thor gived the Odinson a full on lip lock that took his breath away. This new Thor has both the hard skills and the soft skills, and woe to those who think that she isn't as mighty as the previous one but with decidedly better advantage.
THOR VS THOR! The original Thor comes mid-battle and confronts the new Thor, claiming that there could only be one Thor. My favorite installment so far... (My brother unfortunately blurted out to me who this new Thor is so that killed the suspense for me.)
My favorite of the first five issues, Thor v. Thor- knowing who new Thor is made it all pretty poignant- especially knowing that being Thor is killing Jane. Loved the KISS.
I LOVE the cover, our two Thors like in a placard, the color palette, mwah chef's kiss
"Calm thyself down." Ahahahaha it's the calm thy tits meme
"Angry little worms, aren't they? If we stay out of the way, maybe they'll kill each other. Where's the fun in that? We should be fighting this giants, not one another. But once again you are letting your rage to get the best of you, Thor. You know nothing of me, woman! Are you certain of that? Unhand my hammer! I did not ask for this! The hammer chose me! You bewitched it! What manner of sorceress are you?! I am the godess of thunder! You are a blasphemy! There cannot be two Thors! You will not frighten me with thunder! I command the lightning, too! Command it all you like! You have no idea what it means to wield mjolnir! What it costs! I would die for that hammer! I have died for it! And I will die again this day if need be! Open your eyes! You cannot hold on to something you've already lost! What makes you worthy?! Who are you beneath that mask?! I am the one holding the hammer! Who are you?! I am the one who will never let it go!"
"He's so sad. I hate to see him like this. I just want to hug him. Do super heroes hug each other?" Aaawww we love some self compassion after the inner conflict
Asgardians have a thing for kissing versions of themselves don't they? Lmao we had a Thor kissing Thor panel in this one
"Then shall we, god of thunder? Aye, we shall. Godess of thunder."
"I am Thor Odinson. Asgardian. avenger. Prince of the realm eternal. I am destined to live until the end of time. To wear a crown and sit on a throne. Or so the stories would have me believe."
"With every rumble of thunder... With every roaring note of the hammer's song... I die. I die a little inside."
What is so funny to me is how Thor always speaks of that hammer with such passion, he sounds like a lunatic every time.. And maybe that's what they're going for, they want to show how we clench around things as honor, pride, glory, roles that were attached to us like labels and won't let go, which, when you see it from a perspective like this, feels and is so ridiculous
Spidey and Sam cameo 🥰
"No... Do not call me that name, I am not worthy of it. Son, please... I am still the prince of Asgard. I am still the Odinson. But she is Thor now. What? No... That hammer has the power to destroy worlds. Or to save them. Carry it well. Thor."
Ah of course the laufey shenanigans would not be over with our arrogant friend here
What I don't like is how they've made Jane's (?) eyes through that mask:/ can't help but think to myself "beurk, cockroach eyes"

Such a perfect series of comics. Jason Aaron has consistently impressed me with everything he does. But it's his handle on quick-punch narratives that makes it even better.
Also there's a kiss in this issue that... wasn't just romantic, but is then followed by a gut busting delivery of humor that anyone who reads will have no choice but to find delightful-

Thor meets Thor and it doesn't exactly go over well. While our mystery lady would prefer to focus on the big picture the Odinson has only one thing on his mind: getting his hammer back.
Immediately the two conflict despite her efforts to maintain the peace and focus on the Frost Giants. As the issue continues they finally manage to put aside their differences long enough to deal with the matter at hand.
This is when Thor finally sees and realizes the truth. Mjolnir is no longer his, a fact made painfully obvious when it deliberately flies right past him and straight towards Lady Thor.
While he comes to accept Mjolnir's decision it still is not an easy one for him to realize or come to terms with. The hammer that he has relied upon for so long has abandoned him.
Ultimately he steps back and let's it be known that a new Thor is here. The issue closes on a nice cliffhanger and I'm eager to see what happens next!
Thor vs. Thor, now this is one confrontation that I had been dying to see. Thankfully enough, it wasn't unnecessarily drawn out in a contest of might and raw strength. It came down to who does the hammer consider its master and, like a dog caught between divorced parents, it made its choice pretty loud and clear and sparky.
And once The Odinson accepts it, everybody just seems to be okay with it. Except for Odin. Because Odin is always quite the sourpuss. Ugh, he should let the All-Mother deal with things from now on.
Another beautifully drawn and perfectly written issue.
Lady Thor has been recognized by Thor-Dude as the true wielder of Mjolnir! Both Thors have very similar personality...though Thor kissing Thor could make for a startling headline. Frigga returns, laying to rest all predictions that she is the new Lady Thor. This issue seemed to be working to lay out conformation that Odinson is no longer Thor. Still, I'm super excited to see what happens next!
This was the story of how Thor lost his hammer He is Odinson, prince of Asgard. And She is the Goddess of Thunder, The Almighty Thor :) This run is great! ... The fight was awesome, the kiss :p, the aftermath it all worked just fine And the mystery remains... I think this the best of the first volume so Far...
The two Thors finally meet and all goes as well as you might think! A humorous and exciting read with a few twists and turns. Marvel is really going for the slow build on the new Thor's secret identity but this issue begins to give a few hints, at least in terms of who she is not.
THOR FIGHT! I enjoyed that maybe a little too much. (And what's Thor supposed to do when he can't lift the hammer? It didn't magically get lighter or anything.)
