I've lived six lives in one and it all shows up in the books I write, one way or another.

I was always a risk taker and broke mustangs at thirteen years old in Oregon. I learn to break them with love, not threat or pain.

At 17 years old, I picked night-crawlers (worms) out in our Oregon orchards from 9pm to midnight, every night. I earned enough money to buy my school clothes and book. I also plunked down $600 to a flight company at the Medford, Oregon airport and asked them to teach me...a girl...to fly. I soloed in 12 hours, which is average. From that time until I left for the US Navy at 18, I had accrued 39 hours of flight time in my Cessna 150 single engine airplane.

I was in the US military and was an AG3 (weather forecaster). There was no airplane club, so I couldn't fly when I was in the Navy. But I could look at the clouds in the sky ;-).

Later, I flew in a B-52 bomber for a day and night mission (18 hours total), a T-38 Talon jet, USAF, where I was riding in a "chase plane" on a test flight in a Dragonfly jet.

I was one of the first AFLA (American Fencing League of America) women fencers to fence with epee and sabre. These weapons were closed to women because they were too 'heavy' for a female to handle. I said baloney and fought the males and won half my bouts. I was part of a surge of women fencers on the East Coast in the 1970's to push for equality in the sport. Together, we changed the sport and changed the mind of the men. Today? In the Olympics? Women now fence in foil, epee and sabre, thanks to what we did as a vanguard showing the world it could be done.

I then became a volunteer firefighter when I was a civilian once more, the first woman in an all - male fire department in West Point, Ohio for three years. I became a local expert not only in firefighting, driving the engine and tanker trunks, but also had training in hazardous material (Reynoldsburg Fire Academy, Columbus, OH).

My books always reflect what I experienced. If you like edgy, gritty, deeply and emotionally intense love stories with sympathetic heroes and heroines, check out my newest series that will be available mid-Oct. 2015, and it incorporates much of what I have lived.

This is the second book that I read from the series and I must say that I'm still impressed.

I love how Ana thinks and how strong she is in fighting her father aka The Dark Lord. I also like Mace but somehow, I'm not much into him when it was revealed about Ana being a Taqe.

A good read, I must say.

Setting: Village of the Clouds; farm near Agua Caliente; El Condor Curio Shoppe, Parrot’s haven, and Gringo Bills hostel Aguas Calientes; and motel and St Mary’s Orphanage in Cuzco, Peru; airport Lima, Peru; Machu Picchu / Lunar Temple / triangular rock @Huaynu Picchu; Vesica Piscis Foundation @ Quito;

Theme:
Finding the truth in the dreams that haunted her life; safety/warmth in Light Warrior; finding the strength within oneself; fighting evil; power of heart/love over evil;

Characters:
Ana Elena Rafael: “…inter-dimensional being with powers well beyond what most dreamed of…”; adopted when she was 5 years old, with no memory of early life, but lifelong dreams of jaguars, and someone searching for her; biologist who building sanctuaries for jaguars around the world;

Grandmother Alaria: of the spirit world of the clouds; trains Warriors of the Light in preparation for the upcoming war, to determine 1,000 years of peace or chaos; comes to come in their dreams;

Senior Juan Sanchez: farmer near Cuzcos, near river; married to an Incan priestess/princess; their daughter disguised herself as Tupay, to marry Victor, to produce a daughter that she could influence for the light… but when almost ready to deliver, her tattoo changed back to Taqe, and Victor pushed her over a cliff and thinks she is dead (along with the fetus);

Maria: when husband tried to kill her, she survived, and gave birth, and shifted to jaguar so he could not ‘read’ her presence; raised Ana as cut for 4 years – but knowing she was going to come into her magic soon, and knowing her father might recognize it, she takes her to her father; when Victor recognizes her spirit, he locates her, aims his rifle, and shoots, and Maria jumps in front of bullet, dying so her daughter could live;

Mason ‘Mace’ Ridford: Warrior of the Light; raised to destroy the Dark Lord and his daughter; engineer of water/power systems; when Ana’s plane coming to Peru, he senses her for the first time, and following his jaguar spirit guide, gets on the flight with her; he cannot reconcile the women he observes and then meets with all he was trained to believe of her… comes to realize that she has the power to be evil or good;

Victor Carancho Guerra: The Dark Lord; very logical, systematic belief system of self – power, money, etc; he seems to genuinely love his children, including the daughter he tried to kill twice; he is eager to bring Ana into the fold, believing they could rule the world;

Fidelia / Abegail /Marcial : Victor’s faithful 2nd wife; his 1 month daughter, name meaning ‘father rejoices; 10 year old son, coming into his magic;

Vidonia: High Priestess, guides Ana with specifics of her last tests that will lead her to the second stone of the necklace;

Calen Hernandez / Reno Manchahi: found one stone… starting foundation to fight the dark;

Summary:
A timid Ana follows her dreams to Peru, to discover her roots; she gathers strength from words of Grandmother Alaria, of picturing the jaguars she loves, and the warmth and strength of Mace – and as she learns the pieces of her life, her history, and the legends of Taqe and Tupay, and the jewels of the Incan necklace – she at first fears her Tupay side, but quickly sees she has choices, choices of her heart, and she chooses Taqe;

I didn’t understand why Mace wasn’t better prepared to personally accept her… though all of his contact is supportive and understanding… I didn’t like his almost hypocrisy in dealing with her for the first half of the book; and her first exercise with Grandmother Alaria is about grounding herself in the Vesica Piscis … yet Ana never once did it… hmmmm

She finds the jewel, Mace finds her, her father finds her… he is sapping Mace of his energy, and she reaches deep in herself, and swamps him with love, scaring him away… and Mace and Ana join and go to Quito to join the foundation;

While this was quite readable the concept of inheritable and inevitable evil is problematic for me. I have no problem with people struggling against their own urges but when all that this character got from her father was genetics? Brought up by a good family etc. I also have problems with the good guys setting out to kill her without any proof of evil or potential evil.

Still the being brought up by Jaguars, jaguar shapeshifting and the romance between the two characters was well drawn. Without the inheritable evil bit this would have easily got 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. I would read it again, but more for passing the time. I liked the characters, creativity, suspense and good vs evil. The writing was great and really took me into the book. The emotions were strong and were really felt. The twists and turns were good too. The ending was a good HEA (although a little mushy). I can't wait to read the other books in this series. This would be a great rainy day book, you'd have time to read more. :)

DARK TRUTH is the 2nd book in the Warriors For The Light series. I thought that this book was only okay. I didn't really care for the main female character. I felt that she was a little to weak. Also I felt that, as in the 1st book in this series, the author didn't do a great job of developing the romance.

This is one of the Nocturne series. It is very mystic with South American type legends involved. It has jaguar shape shifters and visions from spirit guides. A lot of the story was involved with this aspect more than the romance side of it.
