Beginning readers will love joining Mrs. Connor's classroom as they vote on a new class president!
Today is election day in Mrs. Connor's class. The students will listen to speeches and vote for a new class president. Today is also Becky's first day at Robin Hill School. She thinks she would make a great class president, but she's new and has no friends yet. When Becky takes a chance and makes a speech, the whole class is surprised by the winner!
Margaret McNamara is the Christopher Award–winning author of more than two dozen books for young readers, including the Robin Hill School series. The Fairy Bell Sisters series is inspired not only by her love of the classic sisterhood novel Little Women but by her own experiences growing up with older sisters (and a baby brother). Margaret and her family live in New York City, but they spend part of their summer on an island in Maine very much like Sheepskerry Island.
It's election day and three children give speeches on why the class should vote for them (no homework, candy machine, and extended summer vacations are the campaign promises). Becky makes no promises other then to do her best. Surprisingly, Becky wins the election! I was disappointed by the fact that there wasn't more discussion about elections in general. There's not much here other than false promises and those aren't actually discussed.
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
Merged review:
My children absolutely adore this book. Reading literature is so important to the development of a child's mind, and I cannot think of thing I would rather do then sit down to read to them in the evenings. Imagination and growth are so vital in those so young.

I really liked this book. It is very short and would be very good for one of the younger children to read. It is about a new girl that gets out of her comfort zone on the first day in her new school to give a speech about what she would do if she were to win class president. I love it because it shows even though you are new and nervous you can still do great things.
This book has to do with school elections. This book can be used to teach children about voting, but can also be used for a math lesson on graphs. The students in the classroom can take a vote and then create a chart based on what they voted on.
I thought that this was a cute book. it's a short book about elections, but also being nice to others. My 3 kids and I enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend this book to others.
