My mom has always had a thing against Chopra for commercializing Rumi. She makes up Chopra jokes and ignores the fact that he lives in her town. I should mention here that I am incredibly influenced by my mom's opinions, but one (sad, depressed) day, I found myself buying 2 of his books at Borders. I had read one before and I didn't care for it much, but I felt compelled to give him another try. It must have been the vain author portrait on the cover of the book?

This book isn't as cheesy as it sounds. Honestly. Granted, I bought it when I was in a place that could have used a cheesier book, but I'm glad it wasn't barfy so I could actually dig in.

If I had to sum up the book I'd say it's just about being a more open person and realizing that people are doing the best they can with where they are in life. When you're more forgiving, you're being more compassionate, and that allows everything to flow better in your life and in your various relationships. Sure, there's some talk of love and passion (one of my favorite quotes was about looking around you to see what you've created- what you create is a reflection of your passion). But more of the book is about spirituality and good-vibeyness. And I love me some good vibe books.

I read this book by the beach, so it could have sucked and I might have still liked it. While some parts of this were long-winded (or maybe I just don't care to read about other people's trials and tribulations) I actually found it pretty insightful, well-written, and its use of Rumi was beautiful in context.

Few excerpts I found particularly meaningful:

The reason that ego and love are not compatible comes down to this: you cannot take your ego into the unknown, where love wants to lead. If you follow love, your life will become uncertain, and the ego craves certainty. You will have to surrender to another person and the ego prizes its own will above anyone else's.

Energy is a self-renewing commodity. Its flow isn't diminished by how much you take away. Love is eternal and unbounded, it is only we who take tiny sips from its infinite ocean.

Equality isn't based upon external factors or images. We all have an equal right to be appreciated, respected and understood.

To accept another person means accepting his/her emotions. There is nothing more basic or intrinsic. .. You have to feel that your partner wants to understand you and your feelings before you can share experiences you barely understand yourself.
Courtship succeeds to the extent that a man and woman can dismantle their defenses; it fails to the extent that they build new defenses together.

It is the book you need to read if you are out there wanting to experience love.
I usually write down beautiful lines from books into my notebook.
But there were few chapters like "Letting Go" and "A house of Light" that were so insightful and beautiful that I xeroxed those two chapters completely.
An amazing read.
Practical and insightful to people who are looking for love and for those who can read and retrospect about the stuffs mentioned in the book.

Here is stanza from the book that I believe many could relate to,

"The energies that make us act out of anger, fear, insecurity and doubt are extremely familiar. They are like an old, dark house we return to whenever things get too hard to handle. It feels risky to leave this house and see what's outside, yet we have to leave if we expect to be loved.

So we take the risk.We walk out into the light and offer ourselves to the beloved. This feels wonderful;it's like nothing we have imagined in our old, dark house. But when things get tough,we run back inside,we choose familiarity to fear and lovelessness over the vulnerability of love, until finally we feel safe enough to go back and try love again.

This is essentially the rhythm of every intimate relationship-risk and retreat. Over and over we repeat this rhythm, accepting love and pushing it away until finally something miraculous happiness. The old, dark house isn't necessary anymore. We look around, and we have a new house, a house of light. Where did it come from? How did we build it? It was built from the love of the heart. It has silently been weaving our higher and lower natures, blending fear, anger, survival and protection into the energies of devotion, trust, compassion and acceptance."

This is my favorite Deepak Chopra book so far. Even though the main focus is to help couples heal, sustain, or take their love to the next level, the book is every bit as helpful to a single person because each of us must foster a relationship with, and learn to love, our own true Self in order to see Love in another person. Deepak Chopra takes us through many spiritual traditions and quotes a wide variety of poets and writers to give a deep, profound knowledge of the concept of love and how to live in this world but not of it, to see love in all people and all things, and to know that reality is love, all else is illusion. Near the end he includes many love affirmations that he wrote while writing this book which are very illuminating to contemplate; and he encourages us to write our own as a way to strenthen our connection with our spirit and God.

Very loving... in Deepak's signature narrative style.
Two interesting points, but nothing earth-shattering:

“Ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future” and “I am loved, therefore I am safe.”

This book was thoroughly enjoyable for me to read. The spirituality aspects aren’t shoved into your face where you feel disconnected to the content, instead it feels like a guide to further open your mind to what is.

In this day and age, people are tired of holding empathy for others, however if they turned to look inward they would find they lack empathy for themselves as well. Finding that place in your being that helps you to connect to what is true to you and fills you with passion, helps you to step further into healing yourself and the world around you.

There’s insight into romantic relationships but also insight into relationship with one’s self. The information feels applicable to so many areas of life. Overall, I feel moved by what I’ve read and only want to open my heart further to love.

This book is definitely one of my most favorite books and is one I re-read periodically as I go deeper into my spiritual journey. It defines for me the ideal spiritual relationship, one based upon unconditional love and seeing the Spirit within as the foundation for true intimacy. I read this to understand how to deepen relationships, understand the relationships I had created in the past and was currently experiencing, with a deep calling to establish truly loving relationships. Beautifully Deepak writes this book in a way that makes "The Path To Love" one that is truly internal and just as much about the relationship you have with yourself as others....and they are really one in the same.

This is by far the best book I've read by Deepak. It is extremely well-written, with examples to support his claims as well as meditational type exercises for the reader to get a full in-depth insight into Deepak's claims. I have ensured I made copies of the exercises so that I can do them regularly. My first pass through these exercises was extremely revealing and I truly feel it has helped me start my own healing process. I've said this about other spiritual books that I've read, and I'll say it over and over again: Do not commit to reading this book unless you are determined to follow-through with the wealth of guidance it provides. I very highly recommend this book to anyone who is most sincere in finding a path to heal deep wounds associated to 'love' or lack of it.

It started with my mother sending this book accidentally to me, and it took me 2 months to finish it.
The funny part is when I started to lose my faith in love I found this book.
I realized that the main reason we don't find love is we comping it with a superficial lust (color, money, positions and shapes). We hardly learn to accept ourselves but yet want other to understand and heavenly match with us. We keep blaming others for not seeking for a deeper connection and consider them then boring.
While forgetting that the greatest shape of love is the love of the soul starting with yours.
For it is a rare source of pure energy.
And remember energy can neither be created nor destroyed It can only pass along.

I read The Path of Love: Renewing the Power of Spirit in Your Life by Deepak Chopra, which I couldn't find in the book listings. It was a large print edition I found among my grandmother's books after she passed away. I read it a few months ago just after reading Eckhart Tolle's New Earth and I remember being stunned that the message was the same, "Live in the Now", but that this was such an easier, non-egotistical, not over-intellectualized version. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and hearing it's message, which came at a time when I really needed it. This was my first Chopra book, but definitely not the last.

Found this the best of Deepak Chopra's books so far. Addresses a subject I ponder the most on - Love, and Chopra does an in-depth take on the subject. Some parts of it challenged notions I'd carried for a long time.

The book is a keeper for me; there are days when I just pick up the book and randomly flit its pages, and re-read the content I land on, and find profound meaning in it, yet again.

Wouldn't recommend the book for everyone - it will resonate with you only based on the stage you are in, in your spiritual path. I believe I picked up the book because I needed it.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved his belief in love and it’s powers. It just made me happy and feel good about love and about myself. I enjoyed the exercises that he suggested but some of the stories felt like they went a bit over the top to prove the point. Overall though I think is a great book and worth reading whether you are in a relationship, single, or married.

Didn't really get much from this book compared to Deepaks other work - seemed a bit vague in some respect and couldn't pull me in...

Besides the benefits and of the importance of one being able to love themselves first - in the path being able to love - nothing exactly ground breaking? Or a must pick up book that I'd recommend to get one "enlightened" ...

Or perhaps I've missed something - maybe if you've read the book and reading thus review would love to here your thought I'm the comments section ...

Maybe I'm past the point in my life where I needed this book, but I found the whole thing infuriating. It took me TWO YEARS to finish this book, it would take me days to have the will to read just five pages.

There are some notable quotes, but I would just google them, honestly.
