"What is the key to staying in charge? You must have your written set of goals with you at all times. Prioritize your goals and decide which are important. Constantly review your goals, then make them a part of a good written game plan." ~ Jim Rohn, Leading an Inspired Life, page 293.

Excellent book on personal development. Perhaps, the second best I have read so far. I will be reading this a second time and maybe a third time.

All I can say is if you haven't heard of Jim Rohn, then you need to get a hold of some of his materials and his unique philosophy of life, so you can add some of his ideas to your own philosophy.

Gold mine!

This book is completely life-changing. Easy read, but lots of great perspectives and concepts to shape or change your thinking in powerful ways. Keys to overcome negativity, procrastination, accomplishing goals, defining and achieving your personal success. The author is sharing what he's learned from experience. For 6 years (between 25 & 31) he worked on his mind set and goals and became a millionaire (and said it was easy) through developing habits of consistency, etc. He periodically refers to stories of Christ and the scriptures to emphasize a point, and does so respectfully, tastefully, and non-preachily, which I like. Awesome read (though expensive...I borrowed it from my bro-in-law!)(Which made it take forever to read because I had to write down everything I liked instead of underlining and writing in the book.) Worth every minute and every page.

I have been a Jim Rohn fan since I began listening to his audio programs years ago. I have several of his books as well. By far, this is the most comprehensive collection of his work that I've seen. There is a LOT of material here, which seems impossible, considering the total absence of fluff.

What a wonderful legacy Jim has left this world. I'm so thankful to have his influence available to my and my family's life.

If you must only have 1 Jim Rohn book, definitely make it this one.

Unbellivable. I read it in bite sized chunks. You would read, and all of a sudden sentence would surprise you, make your day, and inspire you to keep going with your plan, no matter how hard or how difficult is now !

Thank you Jim !

An excellent excellent book. Jim Rohn was Tony Robbins mentor and Tony Robbins used to work for Jim Rohn's company.

The book is 400 pages long, but set-up in little chapters. Jim Rohn is also straight to the point and convincing; just my style.

If you really like Tony Robbins or Jack Canfields Success Principles, this book is a MUST for anyone serious about self improvement and conquering their own self doubt to succeed.

This is going to be arguably one of the best, if not the best book, I have read this year. And I have already read 16 books this year alone. Many of which are good books.

He had some great stuff in this book but there was also a lot that just rubbed me the wrong way - he tended to be dogmatic in his thinking and was often speaking only from a position of privilege (boot strap mentality).

The biblical examples also got old quickly. It would have served him well to use other resources (myths, religions, stories) and not just rely on one source.

Leading an Inspired Life - Rohn, Jim (Označi: 24; Zabilješka: 0) ─────────────── ◆
The Rewards for a Disciplined Existence ▪ Procrastination is almost the exact opposite of discipline.
◆ Improving the Quality of Your Life ▪ I’ve discovered that you can’t change people. They can change themselves, but you can’t change them. Lord knows I’ve tried. I had a super group of salespeople back in those early days. I said, “I’m going to make them successful if it kills me.” Guess what? I almost did! It can’t be done. Good people are found, not changed. If you want good people, you have to find them. ▪ If you want motivated people, you have to find them, not motivate them. The first rule of management is this: don’t send your ducks to eagle school.
◆ Price vs. Promise ▪ Our lives are affected by two major things: one is price, and the other is promise. And it’s not that easy to pay the price if you can’t see the promise.
◆ Starting the Process of Change ▪ “It’s not what happens in the world that determines the major part of your future. What happens, happens to us all. The key is what you do about it.”
◆ The Principles of ‘Self-Making’ ▪ “Fish and company start to stink in three days.” ▪ That was one of hundreds of Ben Franklin’s comments on life.
◆ Keeping a Journal ▪ The first treasure is your pictures. Take a lot of pictures. Don’t be lazy in capturing the event. How long does it take to capture the event? A fraction of a second. How long does it take to miss the event? A fraction of a second. So don’t miss the pictures. When you’re gone, they’ll keep the memories alive ▪ The second treasure is your library. This is the library that taught you, that instructed you, that helped you defend your ideals. It helped you develop a philosophy. It helped you become wealthy, powerful, healthy, sophisticated, and unique. It may have helped you conquer some disease. It may have helped you conquer poverty. It may have caused you to walk away from the ghetto. Your library—the books that instructed you, fed your mind and fed your soul—is one of the greatest gifts you can leave behind. Every book is a stepping stone out of the darkness into the light. ▪ The third treasure is your journals: the ideas that you picked up, the information that you meticulously gathered. Journal writing is one of the greatest indications that you’re a serious student. Taking pictures, that’s pretty easy. Buying a book at a book store, that’s pretty easy. It is a little more challenging to be a student of your own life, your own future, and your own destiny. Take the time to keep notes and keep a journal. You’ll be so glad you did. What a treasure to leave behind when you go. And what a treasure to enjoy today.
◆ Four Factors of Motivation ▪ The first great motivator is recognition from peers.
◆ Increasing Your Resiliency ▪ Resilience is the ability an object has to return to its original form after being bent, stretched, or compressed. ▪ In our lives, resilience specifically means being able to withstand setbacks, broken hearts and broken dreams, financial crisis, loss of loved ones, loss of enterprise, and loss of health. ▪ Number one, it would take a lot of self-discipline. It would take a lot of positive self-talk to muster up the energy to begin again. It would take a lot of concentration to block out the noise and the clutter of all the negative voices trying to get through—your negative voices as well as the negative voices of others around you. It would take a lot of discipline to balance the fear and anxiety with the knowledge that, if you did it once, you can do it all over again. ▪ It would also take a lot of self-reliance. Whether or not your losses had anything to do with you, your future success has everything to do with you. It would take a lot of self-reliance to avoid the entanglements of blame. What’s happened has happened. You would need to get on with your life and begin again. ▪ It would take a lot of faith. It would take a lot of faith and trust in God to move ahead. ▪ If you lost everything tomorrow, and you were gathering all the courage to try again, it would take a lot of self-appreciation. You need to know in your heart and mind that you have the skills, the talent, and the strength to do it one more time. ▪ It’s said that children are more resilient than adults. Why? Maybe it’s because they don’t evaluate their current situation based on past experiences. They approach losses in a fresh, new way each time. In their minds, they deal with loss much better than adults.
◆ Ending Procrastination ▪ The opposite of perseverance is procrastination. Perseverance means you never quit. Procrastination usually means you never get started, although the inability to finish something is also a form of procrastination
◆ Why Success Can Be Easy ▪ the things that are easy to do are also easy not to do. That’s the difference between success and failure, between daydreams and ambitions.
◆ Fortifying Your Ambition ▪ Ambition is an eager desire to succeed.
◆ A Foundation of Confidence ▪ Confidence is such an important component of success. It’s really a form of optimism, a certainty that things are going to turn out the way you want and that you have the power to make it happen. ▪ The root of the word confidence is confide. Confide is a compound word derived from the Latin language, meaning “with” (con) and “trust” or “faith” (fide). When someone is sincere in a business deal, when an offer is made and real money stands behind it, when someone makes a promise and means to keep it, we call it a “bona fide offer,” a good faith offer. ▪ Music played on a top-of-the-line audio system is said to be “high fidelity,” meaning faithful to the sounds made by the live performer and instruments at the time and place of the recording.

I found this book on Audible, and it was the first book I've chosen by Jim Rohn.

I generally multitask while listening to Audible. With this book, I stopped after the first chapter and thought I would benefit from hearing it again. In listening again, I stopped once more and found a journal, got really honest with myself, and started taking focused notes.

I rarely give 5 star reviews, mainly because I want them to be meaningful when I do. This one was largely due to an abundance of shared wisdom on Mr. Rohn's part. While some in this genre may come across as preachy or arrogant, I found Mr. Rohn's style of communication humble and relatable as he shared from experience. His message was piercingly direct, but he was as easy to listen to as an older family member or friend might be who can be trusted to challenge and inspire, rather than attack or judge.

There are times when we may approach a book and the timing just isn't right. There have been seasons in my life when I might have approached the work, considered it mere common sense and continued on my way unchanged. As I've entered a new season where I'm requiring more of myself in deliberate, effective living with marked progress, I will consider this book a helpful classic to return to again and again in years to come.

A fantastic read. Someone else said too... if I only had 1 book to read it would be this one. There are do many good quotes to live by. If I may make a suggestion, take index cards, write quotes on them, and read them daily or weekly. They become you.

Though there are some biblical references that come up it's not a preachy kind of book. As an old friend said "eat the meat and throw away the bones".

"You just can't hear the fundamentals of life philosophy too often. They are the greatest form of nutrition, the building blocks for a well developed mind". - Jim Rohn

This is a practical instruction for leading a happy, strong, rich, successful life.
It is straight to the point and written in super easy language and that despite the fact that Jim was very well learned in matters of language and surely could have used some weird and sophisticated words for his works to amaze people, but apparently his goal was not to write a beautiful book, but a practical one, and this is the best I read so far, especially in the field of self-discipline.

Thank you Jim for your contribution!

Outdated, vague & trite

One highlight for me was reading about how he thought the earth was 6000 years old. Seriously. There are more bible stories in here than in my Sunday school manual. The author’s secret to success seems to be “Stop being lazy & work hard. Then you’ll be rich.”

TL;DR

An alternative title could be: "Embrace, Accept, Succeed: A Roadmap to Personal Fulfillment" by the original Tony Robbins

REVIEW

A powerful legacy. After a life-long career in business and teaching personal motivation, if you have to read one Jim Rohn book, this is it. Somewhat religious in tone. Short chapters. 400-pages-LONG. This tome offers readers pithy, practical, general advice from a 1980s business "bootstrap" mentality. The author provides a clear and actionable roadmap that was easy for me to follow. His emphasis on the importance of self-discipline, personal responsibility, and setting meaningful goals felt tired to me, but it was probably novel at the time.

SUMMARY

The book begins by stressing the significance of self-discipline and how it should be applied comprehensively to one's life. It places the onus of success or failure squarely on the individual, urging readers to take ownership of their personal growth journey. By doing so, the author argues, one can start attracting opportunities and harnessing their full potential.

Readers are encouraged to sort out both long-term and short-term goals, and to take concrete steps toward achieving them within defined timeframes. The importance of generating innovative ideas to fuel one's plans and building supportive relationships without compromising one's principles is highlighted. The book wisely suggests that a balanced life, including attention to family, health, and hobbies, is essential for optimal performance.

Financial independence is a key focus of the book, with practical advice on saving, investing, and engaging in some form of commerce. Furthermore, the author stresses the importance of helping others achieve their dreams, creating a reciprocal relationship that can be personally and financially rewarding.

The book also underscores the value of learning from past experiences and adapting to change by embracing new tools and strategies. Throughout, the central message is that true success lies in living life in alignment with one's long-held dreams and aspirations.

This book, Leading An Inspired Life by Jim Rohn will get a rating of 5 stars. I enjoyed the use of a strong tone in this story, when Jim Rohn states, “Fall on the floor and do some pushups. You’ve got to take action, otherwise the wisdom is wasted.” (Jim Rohn 35). This shows the use of tone when the author expresses the tough words to the reader. Nonetheless, I loved the use of figurative language, when Jim Rohn says, “ it's the little stuff that keeps weighing you down like a workout until you get it done.” (Jim Rohn 297) Therefore, I also liked the use of foreshadowing when Jim Rohn expresses, “You need to understand the balance of good and evil in order to live life easier.” (Jim Rohn 115) But, I also enjoyed the theme, “ all the ways you work pays off at the end”. (Jim Rohn 303) Additionally to conclude, the last theme I extremely enjoyed was, “ you must be the judge in your life, not someone else”. (Jim Rohn 383)

I have praised Jim Rohn a lot and I will repeat it once more :) Sure there are overlapping ideas in this book - but when you refocus on the gold, it’s still… GOLD. Also I praise the book on simplicity - I can recommend this to my 17 year old son as well. Of course the book is simple on purpose - this is the best way to teach. This was the first book of his that mentioned the big profound mentor he had back at the age of 25-30. Which all reminds me that no giants are born, all giants are made. I don’t never had a mentor in flesh, but a lot of them in the form of audiobooks. Jim Rohn definitely being one of the greatest giants of ‘em. BTW did You know, he passed the buck on to Anthony Robbins? Yes, we all have mentors.
