A Short Story introducing the characters of the coming book - "The Mysterious World Of Professor Darkk And Miss Shadow" Two strange individuals come to the aid of a group of people being attacked by a demonic being. Visit jeffwalkerbooks.weebly.com for more information and a teaser book trailer.
Jeff Walker is a Canadian writer of science fiction, sci fi/fantasy, and paranormal/horror/weird fiction. His books comprise distant worlds, futuristic timelines, scary inter-dimensional beings, and protagonist characters of diverse personalities. So, basically... they’ll keep you interested. The 2020 Author Elite Awards placed his book The Long Lost War as a top ten finalist in the category of Science Fiction. Not too shabby, right?
Besides writing and continually looking at social media posts (we’re all slaves to it!), he tries his best to parent two energetic children with his loving wife, and keep his sanity while working his day job as a Custodian. He started out writing fan fiction (Batman Beyond, Doctor Who, The Transformers, Blade Runner...), but soon honed his talent and focused on original stories with characters to call his own. He’s a major geek for anything related to comic books, Star Trek or Star Wars, and anything dealing with the supernatural or paranormal.
And yes, he thinks the sequel trilogy of Star Wars was disappointing. (Who wouldn’t think that?)
You can follow him on his website blog, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. TikTok, not so much, he’s still trying to figure it out.
"There is no greater challenge than creating a story from scratch. A hard thing to do when basically everything has been pretty much created by now. But, that is the challenge isn't it?"
This is just a preview of the story to come. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to read the book. It sort of made me think Men in Black but with demons instead of aliens. The characters were different and I'm not sure if I really liked them or not. So, this is just undecided; I'm not sure where I will go with this one.
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
This is the first of two short stories featuring Professor Darkk and Miss Shadow. The second is Haunted House on Henry Street. As there is no book (yet) featuring these characters and no real background is provided regarding these characters, I would describe this story as a teaser or trailer for the book.
Here, nefarious activity is occurring at a bank full of people. Professor Darkk and his protege Miss Shadow are called in to deal with it.
Overall, I liked the story and these MC characters, but having no context as to their abilities and why they were called to deal with everything (and who called them) - as I said before, this reads more like a teaser of a full blown work (which in reality does not exist). The story is well written and enjoyable but left me wanting...
I listened to this story - The narrator did a nice job. He has a nice deep baritone voice which lends itself well to the story. However, having listened to the other story with these characters (previously referenced), which is narrated by a different narrator - I prefer the other narrator over this one.
While very short, this introductory tale fits in a surprising amount of story and the setting, a single location helps to direct the tale and allow the author to concentrate on the players themselves. While no real history is provided for the cast, you quickly get the feeling that Mr Darkk is a well-traveled and learned sorcerer. The presence of Miss Shadow works really well as she helps to ask the questions we have to avoid more literary chaff. I've given the narrator a 4/5 not due to any perceived failings but purely down to the lack of range shown in the tale but I do put some onus on the narrowness of the story for preventing them really stretching their verbal muscles but there really is nothing wrong with their work and they did an excellent job with what they had to work with. Again this is a very short, tight tale but has easily achieved its aim, that being to convince me that I need to follow up with more of the writers works.
Jeff Walker, you're the biggest failure of a sci-fi writer I've ever seen! You have zero talent, mediocre ideas, and horrible command of language. You think you're a professional, but you're a joke. Your stories are so unbelievable, it's like your brain is from another galaxy. You've got no discipline in your writing, no attention to detail, and no imagination. Your writing is cliche, borning, and unoriginal, and your characters are shallow, uninteresting, and one-dimensional. Your writing is nothing more than a shallow attempt to grab a few quick bucks, and it's an insult to real sci-fi writers everywhere. Get out of my sight, Jeff Walker, and never come back.
We jump right into a demonic experience in progress in a bank. With the short amount of time given for this story there is no space for character background or any set-up. We are simply introduced to the two characters, Professor Darkk and Miss Shadow. What are they? Time travelers perhaps, guardians of some sort to be sure. Not enough information to make an educated guess. Only a tickle to get you interested. Did it? This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.
I received a copy of this in a Goodreads Giveaway. This is a short story in anticipation of a longer book. This was not to my taste. There were many typos, and that did interfere with reading/enjoying the story. I think this was supposed to be an introduction to characters in a longer story- Miss Shadow and Professor Darkk. I really didn't get a good sense of their characters, and am not interested in reading the next book.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This book starts right in the middle of demonic action in a bank. It was quite interesting, but it was quite short so there was no time for character development or background. It introduces the two main characters for the series, but you can't guess at what they are or why they're important. It definitely makes me want to know more.
A very interesting introduction to Professor Darkk and Miss Shadow. Love how just enough clues are given about the characters to keep the reader interested in both them and the scenario presented. Praying to god that the other two novellas kept the interest high!
