Monte Melkonian (Մոնթե Մելքոնյան) was an Armenian-American revolutionary, left-wing nationalist militant, and commander during the Nagorno-Karabakh War in the 1990s.

Melkonian had no prior regular army experience when he was put in command of 4000 men during the war. He had built his military experience beginning from the late 1970s and 1980s, when he fought in Lebanon with the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA). Melkonian fought against various factions in the Lebanese Civil War and against the IDF during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in the 1982 war.

Melkonian's unit had a big part during the Nagorno-Karabakh war and Melkonian is considered to be an national hero of Armenia. Melkonian carried several aliases over his career and was known as Avo to the troops under his command in Nagorno-Karabakh,

Monte died during battle in 1993.
