Good book, very exhaustive analysis and description of scholarly debate. Difficult to get through and sometimes lacks a center

An interesting book that could have been a bit longer. However, it does an adequate job outlining what modernity and modernization is, how it was originally conceived and how it "evolved" (no pun intended). The best chapter is Chapter 3 that is a critique of modernization theory. I wish the book took a bit more time outlining the different modernization perspectives, but, for a brief introduction on the debate, it isn't completely unworthy.
