This reader had a moment of excitement when this got to my reading list. It's a new iteration of the 90's era Generation X, where one of the main characters from the comic book, Jubilee, takes on a mentor role for a new generation of mutants. It adds a bunch of new mutants plus holdovers from one of my favorite series, Wolverine and the X-Men by Jason Aaron, as upperclassmen. However, the prospect of having Jubilee. who was a teenager when this reader started on his Marvel fandom and is now a single mother vampire, ages the reader. It's been a while since Wolverine and the X-Men so he has no idea how Quentin Quire got rich. I'm not sure I would continue with it monthly but it's a candidate for trade-waiting.

This may be my favorite of the new X titles. I've always loved the weird side of the X-Men and stories that focus on newer members of the team.
This issue was delightfully written with some refreshingly fun art.

Of the new X-books, this is the one I liked the most and, of course, its canceled. While there is a some overlap with main X-men Blue and X-men Gold as well as call backs to the 90s Generation X team, it was nice to see teen mutants in a school that were not time-displaced classic X-men or children of Claremont characters. The Character continuity here is mostly from other the 90s Generation X, The Grant Morrison run on X-men, or Jason Scott's Wolverine and the X-Men. The vampire mommy Jubilee is aged nicely from her early 90s incarnation and Chamber is aged up from classic Generation X. Strain's handling of LGTBQ characters is nice in that it doesn't call attention to itself, and characterizations are great, but the plotting is weak and at times approaches silly. Kid Omega/Quinten Quire is suitably powerful and obnoxious and the new characters start to flesh out through the arc here. The art, however, is inconsistent and feels too deliberately "teen." It has a similar feel to the a lot of the younger reader aimed books Marvel has pushed out recently but it doesn't work with the comic.

The fourth titles in the new X-men series focuses on the teenage X-men hopefuls left in the charge of Jubilee (whom I've always felt got short shrift). This title is a good time romp akin to the CW teen drama shows mixed with some super hero fun. Good will-he-won't-he drama, some family drama (Jubilee has a kid, ya'll!), and a bit of omigosh the world-is-ending-and-the-adults-aren't-here-to-save-us flair.

I'll admit it, I thought this title was going to be campy is the worst way possible. Instead, it wormed its way right into my heart and has become one of my favorite titles in the current Marvelverse. It isn't really one for everyone, but if you have a love of lighthearted YA stuff with a nice dose of melodrama and prime shipping opportunities, not to mention a very well done beginning of a adorable LGBTQ relationship (I won't give away who) Generation X is worth picking up. Also, Christina Strain is freakin' fabulous!

So I think the plot and characters might be really great, but the artstyle just throws me off to such a degree that I had trouble focusing on either. Everything looks so wonky. Like the underlying sketch might've been totally fine, but then the inking and colouring kind of ruined it. There's this weird texture on everything too, or at least on the edges of the strokes. It makes everything look smudgy, and I kept thinking that it looked like it was done poorly in MS Paint. I also have an issue with the close-ups with all the weird expressions. Again, it looks wonky, and is just plain distracting.

I thought the cover artist would also be the artist behind the in-comic art. I should have looked closer before reading.

Generation X (the original) was the first big series where I got in on the ground floor. I loved that series. This book has shout-outs to that (mostly Jubilee being the main character and Chamber showing up), but mostly revolves around the younger mutants that have been making the rounds for a while, and so far doesn't have a lot to do with that series (though some more stuff shows up in the teasers at the end). The story isn't much to write home about, and the art is simply atrocious from the beginning. They may have snagged me with the title and the teasers, but I didn't get a lot from the rest of this issue.

I'm a little behind in the mutant world, so I was really disappointed that this issue didn't connect the dots a little better for me. Straight up, I love Jubilee and I'm excited to see characters like her and Kitty Pryde coming into their own as adults. I read about a lot of the characters in this issue before purchasing but I felt like I didn't get a good enough introduction to the students that make up the Generation X group in this article. I'm going to stick with the series, because I'm still excited about it but hopefully things unfold a little neater soon!

I wanted more, which is both good and bad. So much context is missing here and I can't quite connect to much of it. But I liked seeing old favorites all grown up and it has my interest enough that now I want to check out other current X-Men solo titles to catch up on the team that got me into comics.

The writing was starting to show some promise by the end of this collection but the art was pretty woeful. Had trouble telling some of the characters apart and following some of the action scenes was near impossible. Only understood some things when the characters explained them in dialogue a page or two later.

As an XMEN fan I tend to gravitate more towards the stories about the students at the school and their lives and drama within their little school. I find those interpersonal relationships way more fascinating and this book delivers on that front! Although I don't like a lot of the art style, I really appreciate the story and getting to know these characters more.

Love this series, the writer, and artists. It’s fantastic to see old favorites from the academy back again as well as some characters we haven’t seen in a while and even some new characters. I won’t spoil it but there’s some good LGBT representation and lots of love for a classic xmen character.

I have no love at all for Quentin Quire so that is my big con with this volume.
HOWEVER I am so unbelievably pleased to see my fave X-men team get revamped. There are several sweet moments with old team members that were especially exciting.

Not a great first issue, however I am sticking around because I was able to get the first 5 issues for less than $3 and I read that there is some gay in this, so I'll read for the representation.

Gen X is back! Excellent first issue! Possibly the best of the new X-Men books. But I've been pretty impressed with most of them.
