The last great driving adventure in North America, the Alaska Highway traverses slightly more than 1,500 miles from Dawson Creek, British Columbia, to Fairbanks, Alaska. Whether you're planning a trip or already on your way, you'll want Ron Dalby's Guide to the Alaska Highway to discover the many treasures the highway has to offer. Previously published as The Alaska An Insider's Guide, this book benefits from the wealth of information Dalby has gathered on more than 30 trips up and down his favorite road. His many Insider's Tips scattered throughout the guide, tell you where to spot wildlife, let you in on a few favorite fishing holes, highlight important destinations. These tips, coupled with the need-to-know information and spectacular color photographs, make this guide a must-have companion for your trip.
Clearly written with lots of advice for driving the highway that you wouldn't get in a tourist book or the Milepost. Mr. Dalby & family have clearly made the trip dozens of times and their advice is well-heeded.
His cheerful suggestion to drive up to roadside glaciers and chip some ice for the cooler is clearly generational, however.
There are a lot of things that go into making a trip like what is described in this book. Many things I would have never thought of. It is a trip I plan on making in the 5 years or so. Compact information and not too much wool gather but a great guide into getting your head around this trip and contact info for places you might want to go. Good read.
