Back Cover Blurb:

“Trust me,” China Tate said confidently.

“Oh, no. Every time you say those words, something crazy happens!” replied Deedee as the two girls walked to the camp kitchen, where they were going to help out with the writers conference.

“Nothing will happen this time. Trust me,” China persuaded. “And remember, today is imagination day.” But never in the girls’ wildest dreams would they have believed what was about to take place.

While walking on a path along the creek, China and Deedee overheard two women plotting to murder someone named Harrison! Deciding to move their investigation into high gear, they eavesdrop while serving meals to the writers.

China and Deedee’s frightening suspicions were confirmed when they heard gunshots fired at night! And when the girls discovered Harrison is an actual camper, they knew it was time to take action.

My Review:

I loved this book so much! It was definitely my favorite in the series so far. It was immensely better in every way than book 2, The Secret of the Kitchen. If you plan on reading the China Tate series, I might even go so far as to recommend you skip The Secret in the Kitchen and Project Black Bear–the others are just so much better.

The writing aspect was a major reason why I enjoyed this book so much. I loved the hilarious conversations and antics of the writers (aka “riders”). Now I want to go to a writing conference!

Everything in this book was unrealistic, but then that’s nothing new for this series. I simply had to suspend my disbelief and enjoy reading about China and Deedee’s adventures. I want to know more regarding their interactions with Mr. Gleckenspiel. $10,000 per idea…seriously?

There wasn’t much of a theme, except for maybe not judging things at face value, but in this sort of humorous, totally unrealistic book, a theme really isn’t expected. China and Deedee do eventually mention God and pray.
