Psychics, mediums, and ghosts have become a sensation in our culture today. As a result, there are many confusing and deceptive beliefs presented. Ron Rhodes, respected and popular biblical scholar, tackles the truth about ghosts and those who say they communicate with them and answers the This reader-friendly presentation of intriguing facts and biblical insights will help Christians know how to respond to this fascination with the ultimate truth.
The beginning of this book gives fictional examples of ghost sightings, which is where I had to stop reading on the first night. Which happened to be the night when both of my sons hopped into my bed, so I was forced (out of self preservation) to go upstairs to sleep....alone....in the dark. I seriously freaked myself out! Logically, I knew what it was, and more importantly, what it wasn't. But STILL, it made for a very freaky night indeed.
This book was very informative about the dangers of occult practices. I suggest setting aside a chunk of time to read this...during the daytime:)
Its quite interesting how I came onto this book: I was playing Phasmophobia (ghost-hunting game) with a friend and then I wondered about the cultural inspirations that bumped the paranormal fad/trend.
We must remember God despises divination and mediumship +++ etc (Deut 18:10-11).
Infamously, King Saul's consult of a medium is recorded in 1 Sam 28. Surprisingly, even the medium was utterly surprised at the result. This has made some, but many Christians to think that consulting mediums are okay. Its obviously not since God condemns it, and in 1 Chr 10:13-14 it is further revealed that Saul's interaction with the medium was a important part of why he was dethroned and his reign destroyed.
Today, even well-meaning Christians might have similar inclinations to consult these sussy methods because of the alluring promise of 'contacting their loved ones'. You can relate to the sentimentality here. However, as far as the data collected shows, none of these so-called mediums/psychics have a good record to boast of. They have 'safety nets' to ensure they do not get called out (even though they have long busted their own reputations), and many more methods that ironically reminds me of faith-healers.
Scriptures have said, we all live once, die once and then face the judgement (Heb 9:27). For this reason, Paul said "Now is the day of salvation".
There is no way of contacting the dead. We have one passage (Luke 16:19-31) that very clearly teaches that although the rich man is suffering in great agony and wishes to warn his living brothers, he was not permitted to. Comms between the living and the dead was simply not permitted.
The simple answer to why people would report seeing their loved ones either in an apparition or in an altered state of consciousness is that demons are experts at deceiving. Think about how long they have been inducing deceptions. And who is their father? The father of lies (John 8:44, 2 Cor 11:14). Its quite bad since it preys upon people's hopes and yearnings.
Not surprisingly, paranormal stuff happen to be connected to ideas such as reincarnation, vibrational theory, karmic debt, bodhisattva, little gods doctrine.

An important book for todays Christians who have been drawn in by the world's view (especially Hollywood) of the paranormal. An excellent resource for Biblical truth on the subject
Wonderful, quick read for those of us that need a reminder of what spiritual warfare is! My life turned upside down the year I was controlled by this #psychicreading #farce and #sham. #ChristianNonFiction #SpiritualWarfare #spiritualwarfareisreal #ronrhodes #truth #Christianity #Christians #God #Jesus #SavedByFaith #Grace #demons #impersonate your loved ones. A very lengthy introduction of spiritism, medium etc (some may find them helpful but personally it's overdone for me). After reading the book, I can summarise that Satan and his legion is behind the supernatural events in order to lead people away from the truth or God.
The book is informative but it's something we can Google online. I'd prefer something deeper, critical or scholarly.
It's sad there are so few resources like this one that address the biblical view on psychic phenomena. This book should be read by believers who know people that believe in ghosts and other abominations.
I loved this wonderful book. Well written and easy to understand. I didn’t want it to be over. This book has a ton of information and is necessity for all Christians.
A clear and biblical evaluation of the occult and its claims that are being so accepted in our culture today. His conclusion regarding communication with the dead is that either those facilitating are fakes or they are communicating with demons. Either way psychics are teaching doctrines of demons because it is all deception. This would be a very good book to give to an unbeliever that's involved in trying to contact a dead loved one because while the author critiques the occult he gives the biblical truth and the gospel. Of course it would also be very helpful for a professing Christian who has become ensnared in our culture's focus on this area.
This should have been called The Truth Behing Pshychic Phenomena. I really wanted to hear more about ghosts, so this was a bit of a disappointment, but it was still very informative.
Doesn't answer very many questions. Mostly focuses on psychics and mediums but never really addresses ghosts and hauntings. I had really hoped for more.
