I had my Toby.
The blurb came next.
THEN I realized who would be perfect for Robert Thorston, the dude ranch owner. I contacted Ben Fink to ask if his partner Anthony would agree to being on a book cover. (This was WAY before Santa's Secrets, by the way.)
Anthony... let's just say he was enthusiastic LOL.
I shared the blurb with my beta team, and someone HAD to say it, didn't they?
"You could make it a series."
Yeah, that got my mind onto a whole new track.
What about a BDSM series - but set on a dude ranch?
Oh, the possibilities...
So I named my ranch Salvation - then asked my cover designer Meredith Russell to change the cover.
Then I started writing it, and pretty soon I had some really interesting characters who were speaking to me - very loudly.
So where are we now?
Book 1 releases November 19.
Book 2 will be sometime next year. I'm not going to pop them out like peas - I'll be writing other books in between. (Yeah, like another series, a set of standalone novels with one theme - mature men finally finding love...)

K.C. Wells writes such gorgeous D/s relationships, and happy news for BDSM fans, Wells has a whole new series! Plus it’s a Western!
The first novel, Wrangled, pairs a younger Dom with a slightly older sub (Toby is mid-thirties and Robert’s in his forties). And I LOVED the dynamic between the two men. Robert’s the big boss on the ranch, and has a strong and forceful personality when dealing with those around him. But when these two get into the bedroom, all that changes.
Longing to let go of all the stresses of life, aching to give it all up to someone, Robert hasn’t felt the release of submitting to someone in over five years. After the tragic loss of his partner, Robert has shut that part of himself away.
Toby knows there’s something not quite right in his life. He’s got a great job, wonderful friends, and plenty of play partners… but until he establishes a true connection with Robert, he never knew exactly what was missing.
Robert is such a beautifully damaged character. And the connection he makes with Toby is so emotional. We just have to hope and hope that Toby realizes it too!
Wrangled is also available as an audiobook, stunningly narrated by John Solo. I’ve been singing praises to Mr. Solo’s skills for years, but I’ve got to say, his performance in this one is incredible. The scene where Robert Tells Toby that he’s submissive, and has been without his dominant for all these years… Well it brought me to tears when I read it, but John Solo’s delivery of this emotional scene is outstanding.
In addition to the marvelous characters in Wrangled, K.C. Wells includes stunning descriptions of the Montana wilderness as well as the Salvation Ranch. I’m looking forward to future episodes of this series, as each of these characters gets his own story. Hopefully the next book will be out soon!

I love me some cowboys and I had high hopes but I’m so done with this. Way too much has happened in a 24 hour period that I can no longer ignore my eye rolls. The writing is just so overdone. There’s absolutely no subtlety at all, no slow unpacking of information or natural unfolding of the plot. It’s about as natural as plastic.
Years ago I used to love this author but this is not for me.

Toby Merrow needs a change of scenery, and two weeks at a dude ranch seems the perfect solution, even though it’s a far cry from the scenes of San Francisco. Not much chance of finding anything like that out in the wilds of Montana. Robert had lost his Dom unexpectedly 5 years ago and he hasn’t been the same since. He's lonely but now that he has finally found closure maybe he can be someone's submissive again.
When Toby first appears at the Salvation Dude Ranch, he expects there to be horse-back riding and beautiful wide-open spaces, but what he doesn’t expect was Robert.
Robert needs a "connection" and pushing all of Toby’s "Dom buttons" might be one of his new "buttons". Remember that Toby is on vacation, and he diffidently never does emotions...nope...not ever. However, he and Robert do agree to a short-term agreement to just play together, but those messy "emotion" feelings keep getting in the way even though, both men know that Toby is going to...has to, return home.
The story centers mostly around Robert’s backstory and introducing the Salvation Ranch with all the characters that will become the main characters as the series progresses. There is an immediate connection between Robert and Toby, the trust is fast, which is common with most stories involving BDSM relationships. Toby is a patient and generous Dom fulfilling a lot of Robert’s emotional as well as physical needs. They are sweet together; they have mature conversations; and steamy interactions.
Overall, it's an entertaining read and a great introduction to a new series that I am more than looking forward to.

No subtlety to this writing at all—overexplaining everything via dialogue, telling over showing. I wanted to like this book because I did, somehow, fall for these characters…. But I just never got to enjoy them with their puppet-like dialogue.

wow I loved this one way more than I expected to. I loved the steam, the BDSM dynamic and quality communication in the bedroom. I love an age gap and this took it up a notch with an age gap between older Mature MCs and that the older of the two was the submissive in the relationship. I loved the found family between all the ranch hands and look forward to each one getting thier own book. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars was the amount of times and for how long into the book that the older MC kept comparing his new dom to his old one.
K.C. Wells is a new author for me but ill be checking out their backlist and keepings an eye out for future books in this new series.

I liked these sexy cowboys ! They go to the Montana Dude Ranch to escape and find peace.
We get a lot of witty banter, sass, camaraderie and intense inner thoughts. Add in the hot sex and it's quite a exciting story.
Toby, 30s I think, tall, dark hair, beard, a Dom who owns part of a kink club at home. He had his sub break off their deal, and he needs a fresh start.
Robert, 50s, tall, strong, grayish hair, lost his Dom five years ago, and he's the ranch owner, a lonely soul.
We learn a bit about each ranch hand, and some guests, too. It's a lot of names, but this is a series, so we'll get more information as the series carries on.
In the two weeks, they learn horse-riding, roping, and more, plus the cattle drive will be in week two. It's a wonderfully written tale, as we learn about all things ranch life entails, and we like the ranch, the folks and the gripping characters.
They feel each other out, to see what's up, and Robert and Toby have a real connection. The BDSM, D/s, and the facets of play they go through. It's erotic, loving, intense and breathtaking. There is Shibari rope work,
edging, filled with terrific anticipation, great after care, with more things to come being discussed.
There is introspection with thoughts and questions.
We already have questions we want to learn more about, too. This series is going to be full of surprises and excitement.

I loved this audiobook and the cover is perfect.
I loved his book when I read it with my eyes about a month ago and I love it even more after listening to John Solo’s fantastic performance of the audiobook. There really isn’t anything else that I could say that I didn’t already say in my original review which is shown below.
Two men from vastly different worlds collide when kinky city boy Toby decides to vacation on a dude ranch. There he meets Robert, the ranch owner and hot older guy. Robert is still grieving the loss of his foreman 5 years ago. Toby can tell something is bothering Robert but it takes a bit into the story before we find out everything.
These two throw sparks off of each other to the point that all of the ranch hands notice. They are happy when Toby and Robert get together because Robert has been grieving too long. Toby finds himself really enjoying his time on the ranch. The work is hard but he likes how it makes him feel and then things get even better after he and Robert get together.
Unfortunately, things don’t always work out the way you want and Robert and Toby must decide what is most important to them.
The book proceeds at a nice slow and steady pace which suited the story perfectly. Robert is leery of getting involved with Toby but when he discovers that Toby can give him what he wants and needs he can’t say no. The connection between Robert and Toby was palpable and I loved how they were together. The book includes some great secondary characters – mostly ranch hands, but also a couple of guests – and I can’t wait to read their stories.

Well this was quite a disappointment. I’m prepared ignore a lot of the problems with KC Wells books but this one was too bad for me to do so.
Light Spoilers below
We have a younger dom that in the first scene couldn’t behave more like an asshole to his sub and has a “Do not fall in love with me” rule. Apparently he “doesn’t do love, he isn’t built for it”. Which then makes absolutely fucking sense that he falls in love with someone he has met for a week and moves to the other side of the country for. Why he “can’t love” but now he can is never explained either.
We also have an older sub, someone that has been playing for over 30 years, many of those 24/7. And yet somehow didn’t know tops could bottom? He also was in a 24/7 to exclusive relationship for over a decade but they never said I love you?
The kink on this book was also so meh. You have an experienced dom and sub. Make them act experienced! What a waste. Also teasing fisting and not delivering it’s an automatic minus star, and should be illegal.
Wells also included what I’m assuming is a Native American, with the great name of Paul Stormcloud. Only characteristic is of course a magical connection with the horses and his long black hair.
And we get the fantastic definitely not racist quote:
“I was this seventeen-year-old kid with a chip on his shoulder, who resented the fact that a white man had built this ranch on land that had once belonged to my people.” He grimaced. “I’d been fed that since I was old enough to listen. Then I got to know these people—and suddenly they were family.”

I loved the funny bantering between the Toby and Robert . A slow romance for them to begin without angst included. A comfort and healing. Shirbri rope scenes.

I really enjoyed this book. Once I started reading, I didn't want to set it down. This story had a lot of elements that kept me reading without being full of angst. I loved seeing Robert being more hands on at the ranch and being happier. I loved the ranch and all the employees there as well; they were a found family with plenty of secrets and not so secrets among them. The banter between the ranch hands and seeing them include Toby almost from the beginning was fun. Robert's past was full of heartbreak for different reasons, but I was happy to see him take a chance on Toby. I was also glad that Robert got some closure even if it wasn't what he expected it to be.
I loved how pretty much everyone on the ranch was trying to help Toby and Robert get together. I liked that Toby took most of their scheming well and did his best to enjoy his time on the ranch. While I wasn't thrilled with him leaving and how things played out at that moment, I'm glad that it all got sorted out. Toby and Robert were a great match together.
I can't wait for the next book in this series. I want to know more about all of the characters introduced in this book and see them find their own love.

Wrangled is full of smoking hot cowboys and beautiful descriptions of ranch life in Montana. Toby, a Dom from San Francisco who doesn’t believe in emotional attachments, is looking for a break from his usual scene, so he heads to the Salvation ranch. He meets Robert, the older owner of the ranch who’s been buried under a mountain of grief for the last five years after losing his lover. The two have strong chemistry, and Toby helps Robert reconnect with his submissive side. Their scenes are deliciously dirty, and their connection goes deeper than the surface D/s relationship that Toby typically has with his subs. Robert is well-developed and it’s easy to understand his motivations, but I wish Wells gave us a little more background for Toby. Why is he so opposed to love and connection? I didn’t connect with Toby in the same way that I did with Robert or with some of the ranch hands. The supporting characters added a lot to the story, and I can’t wait to read each of their books. Overall, it’s a solid cowboy romance with a ton of heat.

I was really excited to find out KC Wells was writing a new series with a BDSM theme, was so excited for the first book. I was not disappointed; I love Toby and Robert. Well written with a story that evolves slowly and beautifully (even though the actual timeframe is only two weeks), this is one of my favorites from this author for sure.
Sparks fly from the beginning, and I love how Robert (who is grieving and lonely) and Toby (who thinks he doesn't need or want love) come together and balance each other out. I especially enjoy how the found family of ranch hands is very much a part of their relationship, and KC did a great job of giving just enough information to keep me curious about all of them. I really look forward to learning all of their stories.
I read this in one sitting, could not, would not put it down, and I can't wait for the next one.

I was really excited to find out KC Wells was writing a new series with a BDSM theme, was so excited for the first book. I was not disappointed; I love Toby and Robert. Well written with a story that evolves slowly and beautifully (even though the actual timeframe is only two weeks), this is one of my favorites from this author for sure.
Sparks fly from the beginning, and I love how Robert (who is grieving and lonely) and Toby (who thinks he doesn't need or want love) come together and balance each other out. I especially enjoy how the found family of ranch hands is very much a part of their relationship, and KC did a great job of giving just enough information to keep me curious about all of them. I really look forward to learning all of their stories.
I read this in one sitting, could not, would not put it down, and I can't wait for the next one.

This book is fantastic! The story of Robert and Toby is one of love, loss, starting over, and breaking down one’s walls. They meet when Toby visits Robert’s ranch for a two week vacation. The story is full of great characters and I loved how the relationship between Toby and Robert changes as the story unfolds. The guys that work for Robert are a group of crazy characters that add some wonderful feels to the story. They prove that family is what you make it and they help make this story well worth reading!

A lot of D/s relations in books are a bit rubbish, daddy issues or a billionaire/ poor person type but this author goes a different route with so much research and knowledge and with relatable characters I want to book a ticket to Montana right now

This book was a such a pleasant, unexpected surprise! The characters were actually not what I was expecting, and I loved it. Yes, it is hot and kinky, but this take on a city boy, country boy romance was fresh and original. Here we have Robert who owns the ranch and despite all his losses and heartache is in his element at the ranch. It is Toby though that brings his heart back. That is all I am going to write except to say read and enjoy some hot cowboys and ropes!

What a wonderful book.
Toby keeps the walls up around him to protect him from the love that he doesn't feel he needs or wants. After a sub confesses his love for him, he decides he needs a vacation and books a two week stay on a dude ranch named Salvation. He has happy childhood memories of riding and looking after horses, so he thinks it will be the perfect get away for some quiet time and to have a change from the club he part owns and his life in San Francisco. On arrival he is immediately out of place in his designer jeans and boots and yet he somehow seems to fit right in with the eclectic bunch of ranch hands and the two other visitors. He immediately starts hearing cryptic comments about the ranch boss and how they'd be a good match for each other and vows to find out more. When he finally meets the boss Robert, there is an instant attraction between both men. What Toby never anticipated was how that attraction would grow over the two weeks and how, without him noticing, his walls would crumble to nothing.
Robert used to love running the family ranch, but since his not so secret partner, foreman Kevin died in tragic circumstances, he's kept himself apart from ranch life. Everyone is worried about him including the ranch staff and his sister who keeps pressing him about his mental health. When Toby arrives, he is immediately drawn to him especially as he reminds him of Kevin. As he will soon find out, the pair have much more in common than he could ever have imagined. It seems that Toby's arrival is perfect timing as Robert feels that it's the right time to open up about the guilt he's been feeling regarding Kevin's death and the need to move forward with his life.
I really loved this book. Toby and Robert are very loveable characters, both needing the other in ways they weren't aware of in the beginning. Their meeting led to healing and growth for both men and their relationship was supported by Roberts sister and the bunch of misfits that form the Ranches family. They were all great characters and I look forward to finding out more about them and their back stories. They were all very protective of their boss, but at the same time just wanted to see him happy again.

This author can actually write sex, and even sex that progresses a plot. Given that she writes at the erotic end of the M/M genre, I appreciate her abilities.
That said, this book is marred by two factors:
1) you know before reading the note in the conclusion that she’s going to make a series out of the characters in this book, and make every goddamn character pair off with the man of his dreams, and so they all are a different stock character with a heart of gold. This kind of sucks, because, well, there’s no real conflict in the story other than the obvious “oh fuck, we just fell into insta-love, but you don’t do love and I live in Montana”.
2) and this is minor, but not, since presumably one of those books is going to be about Paul: the paragraph where Paul explains that he was angry about how Robert owns a ranch on what should be Indigenous lane but isn’t? It’s horrible. Like, it’s the worst stereotypes about Indigenous people ever. I know this author is British, but it’s just hopelessly bad to write something like:
“I was this seventeen-year-old kid with a chip on his shoulder, who resented the fact that a white man had built this ranch on land that had once belonged to my people.” He grimaced. “I’d been fed that since I was old enough to listen. Then I got to know these people—and suddenly they were family.”
I really hope she doesn’t have a book coming about Paul.
Other than that, I mean, way too much trauma gets resolved during two weeks, and frankly, way too much just *happens*: is running a dude ranch that full of randomness? I hope not. The characters have about six months of sex in two weeks (seriously, one of the better moments in the second half of the book is when they’re too sore to have sex), are perfectly compatible, and so on. It’s … fine.
Oh, and we have a character whose name is Zeeb. Apparently the fact that this is short for Zebadiah is supposed to be a surprise. I didn’t get that either.

I've always been a fan of cowboy romances, and Toby and Robert's story was particularly emotionally satisfying. Neither man was looking for a love connection when they first met, but their natural chemistry couldn't be denied. I had so much fun watching the two of them check each other out and test the waters before finally making a move. The ranch hands were a fiercely protective bunch, and the fact that Toby passed muster made me even more sure that he and Robert would be a good match. Learning about Robert's past love life and the guilt he'd been dwelling in for five years was gut-wrenching, but it was wonderful to watch him heal, get some closure, and finally open up to his friends and family about what had happened. I got emotionally invested in his happiness quickly, and seeing Toby bring back laughter and joy into his life made my heart so happy. The entire ranch staff felt like one big, messy family, and I really enjoyed getting to know them better over the course of the book. They knew how to tease and poke fun at each other without ever touching a nerve, and I just loved how warm and comfortable the environment was. Robert and Toby's fling was the worst kept secret on the ranch, but that didn't stop them from seeking each other out time and time again for steamy satisfaction. The D/s dynamic between these two felt so natural and right, and I loved how inventive and stimulating their scenes together were. As much as this story was about Robert and Toby falling in love, it was also a journey of healing and personal growth. Each man had to decide if pursuing their relationship was worth the risk of heartbreak, and while I wanted them to throw caution to the wind and ride off into the sunset together, I respect the care and thoughtfulness with which they made their decision.

Toby is 35 years old dom and kink club owner from San Francisco who doesn't believe in emotional attachments on a deeper level, so he decides to take a break on a working dude ranch in Montana and maybe reconnect with himself and his roots. He doesn't have a clue that he'll get much more than he's bargained or hoped for.
Robert is 52 years old ranch owner who detached himself from almost any personal human interaction after loosing his dom in an accident 5 years ago. He's burdened with a ton of unjustified guilt that's seems impossible to overcome.
Their attraction and connection is instant, but will it be enough to break down the walls they both built around their hearts not to mention the distance and different worlds they live in?
Or will they manage with a little help and push from a friends they didn't even realize they have...
Age gap stories are usually not my thing for only one reason - when I fall in love with the characters I think of what happens 25 years ahead.... It was K.c. Wells and the setting of the story that drew me in in the first place, and it was done competently with enough research except for the mounting blocks. They are very beneficial for the horse in general and inexperienced riders, but for dismounting - not necessary and borderline ridiculous - talking from more than 40 years of experience as a professional. Sorry, just my personal pewee...
What I loved the most is family found aspects and a wide array of characters that were introduced in an unforgettable way and are just begging for their stories to be told. They are a bunch of misfits who found their home and formed a family found on this ranch without many questions asked as long as they do their jobs properly. Fortunately it's a series and I can't wait to read the next story.

I enjoyed the little side note at the end of the book. KC really set the stage for other authors. The way she writes makes us desire for more of her characters.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
This was a fantastic read; it was the perfect blend of romance and plot with enough going on at all times. I thought Robert was a great character who'd clearly been through a lot but came out stronger for it. The way the men of the ranch rallied around him too made it seem like such a family, all mismatched but clearly caring deeply for each other. Toby was an intriguing addition, arriving as a guest for 2 weeks. He was very perceptive and had great chemistry with Robert from the outset. I liked how things developed between them - it wasn't instantaneous but it wasn't too much of a slow burn either. The plot was engaging and I was rooting for them to get their HEA.
What brought this book to life wasn't just the 2 main characters, but all the secondary characters around the ranch too. I loved how unique they all were. They left me intrigued about their pasts and wanting to know more about each of them. In particular, I'm curious about what happens to Teague since he's been such a rock for Robert and we've already had a little glimpse into his past.
Overall, this was a brilliant start to a new series. It had great world-building and wonderful characters, making me excited for what will come next! I enjoyed the HEA and hope we get to see more of Robert and Toby in future books too because there are so many ways things with them could develop further too. If you like MM romance, particularly with a cowboy theme, I'd definitely recommend this book.

I have read several books by this author but so far have stayed away from her BDSM ones. Big fault, she writes them beautifully.
Toby is trying his utmost to stay clear of everything romantic and lost his sub due to this. Feeling disconnected he remembers his childhood holidays and jumps on the idea of a dude ranch break.
Robert starts to feel his emotions again after the loss of his dom 5 years ago. Too much guilt, too much "I should have know better" is still causing havoc.
I just love the setting. I love the way KC Wells writes found families, while there are a number of sterostypes in this group of men, they all fit together and they all are invested in getting their boss back to a happy state by basically pimping him out to Toby. Some of the interactions are just hillarious.
I would have loved to know more about the other two guests and hope we will see them again, they deserve their story told as well.

The MCs have no personality. Only like 1 background character does (he'll be the lead in the next book in the series). The angst is "I don't do boyfriends because I do D/s instead". What? I'm not sure that this hang up is ever explained, though it is obviously overcome to get to the HEA.
Book does that hugely annoying thing where it sets up that a character likes fisting. Character finally asks other character to fist him! Other character literally says he's not in the mood, and it's never brought up again, book ends. Like. What the hell.
Also, I read this after the 2021/2022 wolf hunting season outside of Yellowstone so I'm not all that into using wolves as a constant threat for action. (I was reading a lot about the legislation that passed.)
There's also this super weird unexplained bit in the beginning where the only Indigenous character says (about the white-owned ranch): "I... resented the fact that a white man had built this ranch on land that had once belonged to my people. I'd been fed that since I was old enough to listen." Fed what? Is the author implying this is a lie? What the hell does this mean really?
Anyway. I'm disappointed in the book overall. The setting couldn't save this. But the setting and the fact I usually enjoy K.C.'s writing means I will likely read book 2.
I also think this book might make more sense to me if I had watched the show Yellowstone, as its mentioned a bit in the book itself?

Book does that hugely annoying thing where it sets up that a character likes fisting. Character finally asks other character to fist him! Other character literally says he's not in the mood, and it's never brought up again, book ends. Like. What the hell.
Also, I read this after the 2021/2022 wolf hunting season outside of Yellowstone so I'm not all that into using wolves as a constant threat for action. (I was reading a lot about the legislation that passed.)
