2.5

Almost a 2.

I briefly went over the writing repeating quite a bit last time, but here it's much more apparent. So much so that a sentence will recap the previous sentence recapping the previous sentence. It's quite annoying and there aren't any character arcs so far.

Overall, this is a good carefree story to read on a lazy Sunday. I still like the monsters, food, and travel, but it's very very familiar ground. Especially after the first volume.

I won't be picking up volume 3 any time soon. Maybe if I'm bored and need to get out of a reading slump then I'll pick it up.

I'd recommend this series to someone who wants a very casual easy read with no stress in it at all and who likes the idea of detailed Japanese cooking scenes. I would not recommend it to anyone else.

I thought the first book was setting the scene for the characters and the world and I hoped the story would start in this book - but it did not.
I decided to read a few reviews as I was worried that the rest of the series would follow the same format that the first 2 books have - the MC gets easy power and money and people praise him a lot while he acts modest - all this is peppered with the familiars constantly saying they're hungry and how good his food is as well as a lot of detailed cooking scenes - this format was OK for the first book (it was nice and easy casual reading) but it is definitely monotonous now and the idea of more of this same format is not for me. This is where I drop the series.

This volume covers season 1 of the anime, and then some. Its good to read some of the scenarios and situations expanded upon. The adventures of Mukhoda and his menagerie of familiars is just so enjoyable. Definitely going to continue on with the series.

You will have this urge and craving for monster meat.. I'd try the cockatrice pilaf recipe on our real world chicken instead since I don't have a feru.

Why did you read this book?
I like this cozy fantasy isekai about food, so I decided to buy the whole light novel series.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an eBook on Kindle.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Art, Fantasy, Fiction, Humor and Comedy, Travel

What was your favorite part of the book?
My favorite part of this volume in the series is when Sui became a huge slime. I mean, who doesn’t like giant, cute slimes?

Who would you suggest this book to?
I think this book would be great for anyone who isn’t burnt out on the isekai genre, likes cooking (mainly Japanese food), and likes a light-hearted cozy fantasy story.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book?
This was a fun and cozy read. The party finally arrives at Karelina. I love the dynamic Mukoda, Fel, and Sui have going on. Each one of them just keeps leveling up. Another member joins their party. Dora is a cute pixie dragon, and I think it’s funny how Mukoda is kind of forced to take on a powerful familiar. Poor Ninrir, she isn’t the only goddess getting goods now. Them eating giant spiders was really gross, but I just made myself think of them as land crabs. Personally, I enjoyed this book, but it’s hard to recommend it because of how low-stakes and repetitive it can be. I’ve decided to read the whole series. (I just finished reading the last book. Now I just need to catch up on my reviews.)

Any trigger warnings?
Racial and Religious: Racism, Racial Profiling, Slavery
Mental Health: Panic Attacks
Violence and Death: Death, Animal Death? , Graphic Deaths, Extreme Violence, Gore, Escalating Violence, Graphic Violence
Other: Bullying, Classism

That was fun!

This book is longer than the previous one but just as fun! There are yet again adventures, (loooots of) food, and many shocked to silence people.

Honestly, I couldn't read this book when I was hungry because the detailed writing about cooking and food made my stomach growl lmao so... I've decided to at least eat something before reading haha

I LOVED reading Mukohda's adventures with his familiars though and, of course, It's always fun to see Mukohda and Fel banter and also to see Mukohda spoiling Sui like he always does. This book just has a lot of scenes that I like very much. And that's something, because I'm still just starting in this series but I'm already this hooked.

One thing I like to note in this book is that, it actually includes cusses lol admittedly, this is the first light novel wherein I read cusses in and maybe that's just because I've still read so little but still, it's quite refreshing. They aren't used excessively and are also quite effective in showing Mukohda's emotions (especially exasperation). So really, I don't mind them.

Also, there are quite a lot of bonus stories in this too? The bonus stories are probably jnc premium exclusive but ah, I'm glad I got to read them. They were funny. I like them too.

I never knew I'd be so into this series lol I didn't mind it since first seeing it a year or two ago, but look at me right now lmao nonetheless, it's enough to say that I'm really liking what I'm so far reading and I'm quite excited to see where this story is going. Can't wait for the next!

I’ve started skipping over the cooking instructions, which are far too detailed for a novel. Mukohda apparently knows a wide variety of recipes…I do feel that his familiars eat an unreasonable amount - he’d have to be cooking for the majority of the day, and would run out of meat fairly quickly at this rate, IMO. Also, with all the cola and what not he’s been giving them, their stats are probably all over the place.

I much prefer the manga, but I’m still casually reading the light novel since it’s available at the library.

Another fun volume. It doesn't stretch to manifest drama or be deep, it knows what it is, a slice of life cooking isekai. It sticks to that and does it well.

If I was going to comment on one thing, I suppose it would be nice to see more diversity in the meals being cooked. But I really don't mind. Tasty food descriptions and mythical creatures. Don't need much else.

I enjoy the slow pace and 'recipes'

I wish I could try the monster meat,I have been trying to think of real world alternatives for the dishes our protagonist cooks,I was thinking wyern meet could be substituted with crocodile tail or maybe alligator tail.
Anyway, this series is food focused and right up my alley,it brings me joy,and hunger, 😂

Another fun, super easy to read instalment. We’ve also gotten to the end of season 1 of the anime content-wise with this book.

Some negatives: There were some fat-phobic jokes in here which was annoying, plus some disparaging remarks about/towards women which, again, not good mate. Still though, I was able to mostly overlook these comments, but they’re why this was not a 5 star read.

Cook from another world

Hero summoning got an extra. None involved knew his food ingredients summoning would win him three powerful monster contracts including a Fenrir and he would become wealthy. Recipes make you think monsters sound yummy.

This wasn't quite as good as the first volume and felt more reliant on genre tropes, but it's still a fun read. I love that the harem aspect is Mukohda just gaining more and more overpowered familiars.

Slightly disappointed but enjoyable

This book was another fun read though I was kind of annoyed with how spineless the MC, Fel is a power house so the MC shouldn't be so scared of every monster that he sees

Another masterpiece by Ren Eguchi. I really enjoyed the adventures of Mukohda, his giant magickal wolf and the cute little slime. I also enjoyed the weird recipes, like wyvern hamburger and the Orc recipes. As far as Food Isekai go, this one is one of the best.

This continues to be amusing and fun though the MC continues to be a coward. The only reason why he's alive is because he's decent at cooking and way more powerful familiars are with him.

and here we reach the end of the first season of the anime adaptation! imagine my excitement when dora-chan showed up in the books.

I had a sneaking suspicion that mukohda's attitude about sui would become annoying as the books go on, and it was in this volume that it started. mukohda worries that sui is turning into another fel, battle hungry and bloodthirsty, and decides that no way! sui will be cute for all time! in the end though, sui is still a monster, and such is the way of things for monsters. let it be, mukohda. just let it be.

mukohda has too much power. he's so op that even he is scared of his power. sui stays being the cutest and the most adorable and the most murder happy, nevertheless
