If you are a fan of cultivation or progression stories and just wanted something written better, this book is for you.
The plot is meticulous. The characters are exquisite. There is intrigue and passion and glory in the struggle. Frankly, I don't think there will ever be a better author for cultivation novels than Y.B. Striker.
Disclaimer that I've read this story on other platforms, but I'm glad to say that it continues to stand head and shoulders above others in the high fantasy genre. The characters are raw, and the story compelling and full of mystery. Jealous of anyone reading this for the first time!
The characters feel very.. real? The ideals they hold to and how they react to troubles are interesting. There are really lush descriptions as well, and the cultivation is really good. Probably the best I’ve seen it done. Less focused on hard things like forming a core and stuff, more on the character development, or doing great deeds. Give it a try!
Too much philosophy that goes in circles. The author can’t seem to make up their mind about what they want the magic to do, so they just read more and more Greek philosophy and regurgitate it in this book trying to jam it all together to make sense.
The writing isn’t good enough to enjoy reading it without it making sense (like Steven Eriksons is).
Holy shit, what a slog of a pacing... The characters are still superb, but eeeeeeevery single plot point is being chewed on for hundreds of pages. Every character needs to have a flashback and weigh in. Then things need to be discussed.
I love the characters, but I can't do this anymore.
