This is an excellent, slim volume. It covers the basics, some mating problems, a little opening theory, middle game, endgame and some sample games. It is very clearly written.

There are very few books on Shogi that are in English. The others I've found are terrible. This one is not, which makes it the best one. I found that memorizing the games at the end of the book was very useful.
