Rate this book
High school student Moon Bin Lee has difficulty sleeping due to a recurring nightmare: he's stranded over a thousand years in the past chasing a dark-haired girl into a deep abyss.

Before long, the nightmare overwhelms him, and he is unable to tell whether he is Moon Bin, a Seoul teenager at the end of the second Millennium, or Sa Kyoung Kim, the son of a prominent warrior family in the middle of the first Millennium. People in his present-day life assume roles in his historical life as he struggles to learn exactly who he is and what he's expected to do, straddling a transmigratory portal through time and space.

In the present, his school's kendo club battles to stay in the championships ... but in the past, Moon Bin finds himself at the threshold of a territorial dispute on the plains of Mongolia ...

Interesting story and beautiful art, but I was pretty confused and found it a bit hard to follow. I'm hoping that will clear up along the way!

I also borrowed this from the library as an Adobe PDF and it was my first time reading a graphic novel in this fashion. I found it a bit strange to deal with - some of the text was pretty hard to read and I couldn't zoom in as much as I thought I should have been able to without text becoming kind of pixelated (notes and such were difficult to read as a result). But I'm not really letting that affect my rating necessarily, was just a bit irritating to deal with.

The first volume of Threads of Time is an interesting one. On one hand, the art is stunning and reminds me of a bit of A Bride’s Story - especially the character design and historical architecture. On the other hand, the story is very confusingly paced at the start. The panels over complicate the already extremely complicated plot. There is time travel or something like it, and a lot of historical names and exposition is thrown at you in volume one. That being said, the concept is very cool.

A high school kendo champion in 1999 Korea is attacked by a woman resembling a ghost and dragged back into time. Now in 13th century ancient Korea, he’s trapped in the life of a prince and just wants to get home.

There is clearly a lot more to be discovered and many mysteries have been set up. I hope they pay off.

This Manwha is about time travel. A student is pulled back in time to make up for choices a previous reincarnation made as a general during the Korean / Mongol war, and will need to decide whether he dares to change history...

While that sounds definitely interesting, I had a hard time getting through the first volume, which feels very disjointed. The storyline waves between present day and history, until but the end the main character is stranded in the past. The pages simply don't flow well and the art style isn't to write home about. Maybe future volumes will redeem the story, but I'll read something else.

I thought this was a Japanese manga but it turned out to be Korean instead; I'm a sucker for manga, but much pickier about other comics.

It has an Inuyasha vibe in the sense that a high-school student is transported back in time through a swimming pool (a well in Inuyasha). The similarities mostly stop there, though, and it's very generic and unmemorable. It's not even drawn in an exceptional or unique way; it's ok, but thoroughly average. Bah humbug!

Long RTC, but I am a huge sucker for time travel stories, particularly ones where a person from modern times ends up in a historical setting. Volume One of Threads of Time sets up what looks to to be a really interesting one, with body-possession, ghosts, war on the horizon, and an interesting set of characters.

Interesting though slightly confusing so far, but I think the story will only get better as the series goes on

3.5 rounded up

It's got that classic 1990s misogyny sprinkled throughout but nothing too heinous. Overall kind of confusing but the story is quite good and it's got a lot of potential

Beautiful art, interesting and engrossing story. The artist kinda slacked on the background characters, and the Mongol princess and Korean handmaiden look a bit too similar, but the story really keeps my attention, and it's a little window into a part of history I didn't know about...being both a history- and fantasy-buff, how can I resist?

Intriguing first volume with good character design and fun timely wimey details. I will happily read volume two if I can find it in my library system. Thank you, Carolina Manga Library, for existing and giving me the chance to win this fun title at Anime Central 2016!

A good, but confusing story, well illustrated. The main character is hard to get to know. The premise is strong, and might be executed well further into the story.
