This 1916 biography of Lincoln is interesting not just for its insights into Lincoln’s character but for its careful explanation of American traits and attitudes. Aimed at a British audience, it does not assume any knowledge of American history and so offers a very complete comparison of the cultural differences between Brits and Americans. Much of it focuses on the American Civil War, and it is a very readable and concise account. Quite interesting.
