About the author

Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer, and a leading representative of English literature. He was greatly admired by many authors, including Jorge Luis Borges, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling and Vladimir Nabokov.

Most modernist writers dismissed him, however, because he was popular and did not write within their narrow definition of literature. It is only recently that critics have begun to look beyond Stevenson's popularity and allow him a place in the Western canon.

My kids gave it 5 stars! It’s always fun to read about pirates and lost treasure!

My favorite moment was when we were playing outside and the girls randomly started yell-singing the chorus from Captain Flint: “yo ho ho and a bottle of rum” 😂🫣

This book is about pirates and treasure. One thing I liked about this book was that Jim was scared of a parrot saying “pieces of eight pieces of eight!” What I didn’t like about the book was there was a lot of killing. My favorite character was Jim because he was really funny when he was talking about his boat getting crushed. One of my favorite parts of the book is when Jon silver thought there was still treasure when there was just an empty hole that just had a singular coin in it. You should read this book if you really like stories about adventure and pirates.

A fun way to introduce pirate lore to my young boys, who very much enjoyed the story. Paired the book with a Playmobil pirate set and we made a fun pirate summer out of it. 😍
