The Thousand Names of the Divine Mother

Rate this book
"Sri Lalita Sahasranama is an unequalled composition in which the profound import of mantras, poetic beauty, and musical quality combine in a captivating manner. With this hymn, one worships Lalita Mahatripurasundari who is the Supreme Goddess, the union of Siva and Sakti, through a thousand names arranged in a metrical framework. Each name is a mantra. The entire hymn can be considered also a mantra. The names shed light on Devi's form, attributes. abode, the stories of Her incarnations and on Her gross, subtle, and supreme nature" -- cover p. 4.

This is one of the best English translations of the Sri Lalita Sahasranama. It is excellent at taking us through the thousand names and expressing and explaining what it all means. I highly recommend this text to those interested in diving into a deeper understanding of the attributes and the aspects of the Divine Mother.

This is a text for a mature audience.

This is one of my favorite spiritual books. The Lalita Sahasranama (Thousand Names of Goddes Lalita) is a very powerful prayer chanted by goddess devotees. The translation is by a scholarly devotee whose own love makes his translation precious. Reading the book is a meditation on beloved Devi.

This is not something I ever would have picked up on my own. It was an assigned reading as part of a yoga teacher training program I am in. I read a few pages every morning and slowly made my way through the book. The book is beautiful. The language and stories around the goddess names are beautiful. It was a wonderful book to help me start each day. Wonderful for meditation or to integrate into a yoga practice. I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would and plan to pull this off the shelf again and again.
