The Monster at the End of His Pregnancy #1

The Monster at the End of This Pregnancy

Rate this book
Not all monsters are under the bed. The good ones are in it.

Human Punky Bell thinks he's stopping by his parents' house for his birth certificate. Instead, he’s tossed into a windowless van with a smexy stranger and hurtled to another dimension where the van becomes a dire weasel, and his abductor is a lizard/human hybrid.

Punky soon discovers he’s not so human after all. He’s a kobold omega.

Kobold alpha Lark has waited for his mate for a year, but he never expected to meet him on a changeling recovery mission. Now that he's seen Punky, he can't stop thinking about him. It's too bad the strongest alpha wants Punky for himself.

With more than their mating future at stake, it’s up to Punky and Lark to challenge their mortal enemy and save their kind.

The Monster at the End of This Pregnancy is a knotty M/M Mpreg romance featuring an omega who isn’t as human as he thinks, an alpha with the future of his kind resting on his shoulders, a jerk trying to separate fated mates, grumpy/sunshine snark, eggpreg spice, nesting, true love, fated mates, adorable babies, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Well I read this 🙃

I love a little Omegaverse especially when it’s eggpreg but this was so strange. The big conflict was sooooo easily resolved, the bad guy imprinted on a literal baby, and weirdest of all: eggs were grown in the male omega’s nutsack and born via his dilated/split cock. 😳

This is definitely one of the weirdest books I’ve ever read but it lacked the charm of Morning Glory Milking Farm and the sexiness of Hookah Smoking Caterpillar. It does however receive a badge of honour for being another book my spouse has told me to please never speak of again 🤣

Edited to add: I can’t believe I forgot that after the eggs were laid they had to keep covering them in the omega’s slick because that’s how they got nutrients and such. So Punky and Lark were constantly all up in Punky’s 🍑 and then smearing it over the eggs 🤮 Like props to the author for such a unique take on eggpreg but ew all over 🤣

I'm surprised that this is the author's first mpreg book, written under a slightly different pen name, because it sure doesn't read like it.

The world-building, the pregnancy set up, the eggs... it was all on point. I loved every moment of it. Really, it had everything that I needed to feel that I was properly immersed in the world. Everything was thought through. The birth was fun and different for sure!

Punky sure bursts into his new world and goes about fixing things, and though he was grumpy at times, he was a sweetheart. He just wanted what was best for all kobolds. I really liked his attitude about it all. There was a ton for him to adapt to.

His mate, Lark, was really sweet and they bonded pretty quickly. He wasn't the kind of alpha to insist he knew everything. He let himself be guided by Punky at times.

I'm hoping we do get Weld's story as well as one for Tuft. The dragon and Mac, too.

I'm fully invested in this world.

I loved this story. Human Punky discovers at twenty-five he isn’t human.
He got ‘kidnapped’ by his own species and brought to his new home.
He’s a kobold and an omega. Lark is an alpha and his mate. In no time there’s something strong blooming between them.

Punky habituates quickly and wants the best for his new home, solving the problems with the dragons. His kind and supportive alpha want to help him.
Punky learns about his anatomy, yes he can lay eggs, and no not in the way he expected.
A wonderfully written fast-paced story, I loved how this world was created, with caverns, dragons, kobolds, magic, priestess, and eggpreg.

Eh

That is literally my take on this whole book.

I dont know if it was me or the writing, but something was off.

I should have been all in on this, we have alphas/betas/omegas/mpreg, alien society, and dragons! Ok, the dragons are the bad guys, but still.

I got nothing

It was the title that grabbed me. How fun! I was pretty surprised when my bookish friend Jax told me this was the authors first Mpreg. It was certainly inventive! And you're not getting any clues from me here because I think you should get the entire OMG REALLY!? factor like I did.

The worldbuilding is cool, where aliens are sending their disguised young to Earth to be protected until adulthood. Alas, no one came for me when I turned 25 to whisk me away to a distant world full of magic.

The MCs were likable and I enjoyed their relationship dynamics. I also liked a few of the side characters a lot. And disliked - I'm looking at you Weld. That being said, I wouldn't say no to a redemption arc. The author is going to have to work for me to forgive him though. Also, something is definitely going on between a certain beta and a dragon. I'm glad this is going to be a series because I'm definitely looking forward to more.

Oh my god first of all HAHAHHAHA that title had a whole different meaning than I expected when I picked up the book 🤣🤣 it’s so bad it’s funny I cannot! #cringe

Also this book was way better than I’d expected I enjoyed it A LOT I’m actually a bit sad it was over so soon! It had the right elements for a book twice the size if they had fleshed out the story a bit more and also it could be a great series!! So many interesting characters and potential love interest and kidssss 🐉 who also should get their own story!!

The book had a great balance between an interesting plot and interesting characters and a good amount of spice 🌶️💕🔥 it also had some nice elements 👀 which made it different from the usual ABO dragon story with mpregg hehe! And I thought the author actually did a nice job of also putting some worldbuilding in there, magic, dragons, different worlds, secret past and unexplained hidden passages 👀 I was intruiged and still want to know more about the dragons and what the future holds for our friends hehe!

As I said I really hope this book becomes a series cause it has so much potential! I mean this book didn’t miss anything, it’s just that i wanted to enjoy it longer lol! But if you’re looking for a quick read to finish in about 1-2hours than this is PERFECT!

So so good

Punky and Lark are adorable. They were both innately flawed and yet totally perfect for each other. The world building was creative, fun, original, and out of this world (pun intended). If you're sitting on the fence about giving this a read I highly recommend it! I can't wait to see what this author does next.

Interesting take

I really enjoyed this novella.
Punky has just gotten fired from his dead end retail job for defending a coworker and it just happens to be his 25th birthday.
He goes home to his adoptive parents to get his government paperwork in order to leave but expects problems.
They've been very secretive and perhaps not the best parents.
He gets home to find himself whisked away by some decidedly alien people.
One of whom he has a very distracting attraction to.
Lark is one of the people sent to retrieve Punky back home to their alien planet.
There Punky discovers he's an omega able to give birth in a very terrifying way and that Lark is his Alpha and they're bonded mates.
I loved the world building, how sweet and sexy these two were together.
I really enjoyed the found family aspect and without giving too much away how Punky just swept in and basically upended everything these people have always believed but in the best way.
He changed everything for the better and I really hope for more from this world.

Silly connection

This was a book that really just didn't work for me, and is totally a personal dislike.

Punky finds himself unexpectedly kidnapped on his birthday and brought to a different world, where he learns he is in fact not even human. He is a kobold and he needs to pair off to keep his race going. Things are being thrown at him pretty fast but Punky adapts and soon is willing to thrive in his new world, but only doing it his way.

Punky adapting to the world so quick just felt really off to me. Sure, it was supposed to be that as a changeling he never felt like he fit in on Earth and now in his own world he fit well. But that easy jump of acceptance just didn't feel believable overall. Not only that, but he isn't even phased by the idea of becoming pregnant. Then the connection to a certain book feels overly corny and it just felt rushed and ridiculous. Feeling like the characters weren't believable and the world was a bit overdone, it was hard to connect to the story and it wasn't enjoyable in the end.

Punky felt he never fitted in, adopted by dubious parents, now 25 he couldn't wait to get his birth certificate and start living his life. What he didn't expect was to be taken to another world, finding out he is a kobold, an omega and can get pregnant.
This was a good start to the series, the descriptive world building had me imaging the world Punky was now living in.
Whilst Punky and Lark were fated mates, it wasn't smooth sailing. Whilst his temper had tamed, he still wanted what was best for him and his fellow Kobold and I loved how Lark whilst an alpha let Punky take the lead.
The pregnancy and delivery was nothing like I have read before and I loved how it was so unique. The naming of the babies had me smiling as I admired their ingenuity.
Punky and Lark are instantly likeable whilst a certain character that I instantly took a disliking to.
Looking forward to further books in this series

The Monster at the End of This Pregnancy was an interesting read. I've rarely read anything with a lizard-man feel and never anything with kobolds as a race. The magical world of the kobolds had an ancient, dystopian feel to it while also being mixed with some modern amenities that apparently work off magic instead of electricity.

This take on Alpha/Omega felt a little different than I'm used to with everyone being buff, strong lizardmen. The mpreg was spoken about but sort of glossed over a little with the introduction of egg laying, as the babies spend more time in egg than inside their omega.

The plot really sped up at the end with a pretty quick tying up of issues. But it was still a good read to see how everything was mixed together to work out: Kobolds, changelings, magic and science, Alpha and Omega, mpreg and egg laying, ancient history with modern people.

I really enjoyed this story, it's pretty fast paced but so much fun. The concept is rather unique, especially the mpreg aspect was certainly different with the eggs and how to take care.

Also the omega/alpha aspect is great, but I adore that they still vers and take from time as humans before they knew the truth. Punky and Lark are wonderful together, I liked their developing feels as get to know each other and form bond as mates.

The side cast are interesting too and the world building, the history of the species and their lifestyle along with the dragons. I would love to see this become a series, as I'd love to see what happened with some of the other characters and rebuilding towards the future.

Overall this was an entertaining read with so much to enjoy, giving a sweet happy ending for Lark & Punky. Alongside a glimpse into the future with their children, but there's definitely things left open in areas that could lead to more 💛

Ok I admit it. The title is what made me take a second look at the book. I can’t say I am sorry about it either. I am not sure what I expected but this was a fun book, full of a little sci-fi, a little fantasy, and a hope for a better life. Punky and Lark dare to defy the rules and mate and build their nest their way instead of what tradition demands. The kobold way is dying so what have they got to lose but a chance at something better? We even have a little bit of bully redemption by the end of this story. I honestly wouldn’t mind reading more stories about their world. It is fascinating and involves magic and dragons! I enjoyed his story way more than I was expecting.

I've loved this authors other non-mpreg books and when this one came out with that title, I knew as a long-time mpreg fan I was going to have to try it. It was wonderful! The fated mates trope created the grumpy/sunshine pairing because who wouldn't be grumpy after being abducted and finding out your entire life, you've not been exactly who (or what) you thought. Punky gets the surprise of his life when his fated mate Lark takes charge but these two quickly realize they have a dangerous opponent and if they are going to have a chance at being together they've got to be smart and adaptable and together. Great world building and great characters.

I enjoyed this book. It starts with Punky talking with his friend.Clementine. After he goes home, trying to get his birth certificate, he gets taken to a different plane by Mac and Lark. It was explained to him that he is a kobold and brought to the human realm until he reached 25. Both Punky and Lark realized that they were mates. Their story started from there as Punky got used to his new world and was trying to change some traditions, especially with having his kids taken to the human realm. Loved the world building, eggpreg, and great chemistry between them. Cannot wait till the next one.

Kobolds and mpreg

Punky and Lark, Kobold mc’s of this fantasy tale. In this fantasy world, kobolds must hide from the dragons who burned their world generations ago. Now kobold children/hatchlings must be magic spelled into changelings, and raised on earth, in order to save their lives.
Punky and Lark bravely decided to face the dragons, try to talk to them and strike a deal so that they can raise their children and keep them at home.
Kind of acute, fluffy, male, male, fantasy mpreg romance.
Short quick read, good characters and an ovipositor version of MMeg with eggs!!!

This was highly entertaining and very imaginative. An alpha/omega/beta universe containing dragons and kobolds had me engaged from the start...Punky, one of the MC...just his name alone sparked interest along with his bold and confident personality. When he is taken to his home world from the human world that's when things start to get real interesting. His self discovery along with mating with his alpha Lark and being somewhat of a rebel... throw in some Interesting nesting and birthing scenes made this a page turner. I enjoyed it to the very end...a very nice and satisfying end. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Sweet and free from angst, and different in many ways from other omegaverse stories I've read. The omegas are protected, but not subservient to their alphas. They also birth and nourish their eggs in some, um, really interesting ways. The kobold society values consent, and there are very few alphaholes.

There are times where Punky feels like the kobold version of a white savior, convinced that he knows everything about his (sort of) new world and shaking up everything, but things work out in a very satisfying way.

The Monster at the End of This Pregnancy is a great Mpreg romance set in a sci-fi world. The world-building and characters were great and made you feel part of the story. There were a couple of areas that I struggled to follow along but was overall still an enjoyable read. Punky and Lark make a cute couple and the babies are adorable. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The world building is phenomenal. Lark and Punky are perfect for each other, brave and questioning the rules everyone else just excepts. Monte even created a new method for delivering eggs.
There was no chapter where this wasn't a fun book. This author is new to me. And I very much enjoyed her work.
Just like the author, I love Grover's book and it was one my children had me read over and over to them.

Punky was unaware he was disguised as a human and safely hidden in Iowa. On his twenty fifth birthday, he was brought back to his planet to discover he was a kobold and found his mate, Lark. It was an interesting idea for a book with kobolds, dragons, alphas, betas and omegas and lots of conflicts with mating and pregnancies besides. Punky and Lark are truly loving mates and come to enact changes for their world's benefit. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.

The Monster at the End of This Pregnancy is the first book by Edie Monte that I have ever read and what a great way to start. This is the story of Punky an omega who doesn't know he's an omega or that he's not human. He finds all this out when he thinks he's stopping at his parents house on his 25th birthday to get his birth certificate. Lark is an alpha who doesn't expect to meet his mate on a recovery mission. Punky wants to fix his new world and Lark is going to help him. I really enjoyed this story. I love the characters and world building in the book. I hope we will get more stories set in this world. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Edie Monte. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was quite a different approach to changelings, and MPREG.
Punky discovers he`s not human, moreover, he discovers he can be pregnant and it`s his duty to all kobolds to father as many eggs as he can.
A new world, a new post apocalyptic society, new partner... Punky has to confront a lot of newness in his life and he does it grumpily and fearlessly.
I liked this new author, and I´d like to keep reading more about this world.

Interesting Fantasy Story

I wasn't sure what to make of this one when i first started it but it didn't take long for this to take a turn towards very interesting. Incouldnt put it down after that. This is an entertaining take on alpha/omega pairings and fantasy.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

sweet MM romance

This is a very sweet alien/kobold romance. Fated mates and a troubled history. I think this would have been even better with more story. There is such a rich history to be revealed here. I enjoyed this story very much and I am not usually a fan of MM. This is a story worth reading.

Ok

This was a pretty unique read but sort of felt underdeveloped. Like here is this brand new world with a brand new version of mpreg but we're only going to get surface level explanations of how this world works. I wish the book was longer to allow for this. I liked the characters but again, I never really felt like I knew them. I would still probably read the next book though.

Enjoyable read to get me out of my slump

Been a long reading slump for me, but I finally made it through a book! And what a lovely book it was.

This was shorter (my attention span... 🐿️) story & I really enjoyed the plot.

I really want to read Mac's story now, and luckily that comes out in a few days.

Thanks for breaking my Egg-Preg 🍒 Edie.

This is a cool world to get to read. Definitely will be reading more.

Enjoyable

A nice light read in a world of kobolds.
For me, i feel the blurb for the book makes it sound like there will be a bit of dramatic action, but there really wasn't. Still it was a decent story with fated mates and a HEA.

At only 12 chapters long, there weren't enough details or world building for me. It felt a bit rushed and details skimmed. It had some interesting elements but I believe it would have been better served as a full length.
