I received an ARC of Duke’s Redemption from the author and really enjoyed reading it. The story is a good mix of a fun, light-hearted small-town romance with heavier elements such as PTSD, therapy, and domestic violence (not to the main character).
Avery and Duke both felt like realistic and relatable characters. Avery’s inner monologue was especially entertaining since it sounded like the inside of most women’s heads. She worries about things like whether there’s a murderer making loud noises outside and that her relationship is going so well it’s almost Hallmark movie happy, which is suspicious. She was funny, insecure, determined, and tended to ramble, which was luckily endearing and not annoying. Duke’s struggle with PTSD and the steps he was taking to work through it felt truthful, and I appreciated the detail that even though he went to therapy for the first little bit, he just sat without talking. Having been raised by a bunch of stubborn veterans, that tiny detail made me laugh. I greatly appreciated that there was no miscommunication trope in this book and that Duke and Avery made sure to talk through their issues. It made them feel like well-adjusted grown-ups, unlike too many of the romantic characters you come across in the genre.
Although I enjoyed the book, I wish there was more action throughout the story instead of packing everything into the last 20%. There are so many big, dramatic things that occur, and they blow by so quickly you could miss them if you accidentally skip a paragraph. Weaving this drama with the romantic storyline instead of almost treating them like two separate things would’ve made the pacing of the book a bit more engaging. The first 80% of the book is still nice, but the only real plot is the development of Avery and Duke’s relationship which happened pretty fast.
Overall the book is a quick enjoyable read. It features fun movie references, a solid romantic relationship, and realistic characters. Check it out when it releases on February 16th.

Another book by Stephanie Renee that I could not put down! Seriously, it’s like she knows exactly what kind of man we want to read about! Duke is the epitome of a man. Tall, broad, with a beard, a big heart that just needed to be uncovered, and he knows how to please a woman. Avery is a curvy girl with a smart mouth and a history of men that don’t appreciate her and her curves. I read this book in a day. I could not put it down! Off to next one in this series.

Short and sweet roll in the hay with a bit of action and suspense at the end. Large font, wide margins, so this book flew! Cute. Would recommend if you’re looking for a quick read.

This was AMAZING! It had extremally lovable characters, a grumpy sunshine, charm, humor, spice and even a mystery element that added so much to the story; AND that was all wrapped up in the perfect small town romance. I cannot remember the last time a book made me laugh out loud as much and made me blush in the span of a chapter because the spice was soo good; Avery and Duke's chemistry was undeniable from the start and I absolutely loved them together.

I received this ARC and I have to say that this was a great story. I don't think I've actually read a full book in one day, but here we are! This is a sweet, romantic and a story where the man will do anything for his girl and that's what he did.

This is the first book of the author's that I've read & I would like to read more of the Samson Boys series.This is a standalone & the other books will be about his brothers who do appear in this one. The synopsis gives you an idea of what to expect. It's a good & spicy opposites attract dual pov romance, but there are some TW to be aware of: PTSD, attempted SA (not between the leads), DV (against a side character), & alcoholism/drug addiction (from a side character).
Avery gets the shocking news that her estranged father passed away & left her a house in Texas. The house comes with the conditions that she must not sell the house but she's able to rent it out. However, the house needs many renovations & she must supervise them in person. So, with little choice, she decides that she can work from Texas & leaves her life in Boston.She runs a small publishing house. Her father's lawyer recommends Duke, a handyman, to work on the renovations. Duke accepts & the attraction between him & Avery is instantaneous, though neither is looking for a serious relationship. That doesn't stop them giving in to their attraction or things developing quickly between them. However, they each have their own issues to deal with - including the fact that Avery is only in Texas for as long as the house needs work done.
Because of her past relationships, Avery has a few doubts about herself but for the most part she's pretty confident. She doesn't shy away from asking what she wants & also going after what she wants. Though she does unknowingly bring up sore subjects to Duke, she doesn't push him to share with her.She does get him to share with her & encourages him to see things differently. Unlike Avery's cute habit of rambling, Duke is a man of few words. However, he makes his words count & readers will like the way he makes sure to make Avery feel wanted. He's also quick to own up to his faults & is willing to open up to Avery.
Their relationship does develop fast& overshadows the other plot lines but they are a good fit - he gives her a sense of security & she gives him the support he needs. They don't experience much conflict between them. As for the other conflict the synopsis mentions, it's a bit misleading making it seem as if it's something they'll deal with for a good part of the book when in reality it only takes up a few last couple of chapters. & like another reader mentioned, why was the safe brought up like it was something important & then we never found out what was inside? But, overall, readers will like reading Avery & Duke's romance & will be interested with reading the rest of the Samson Boys books, at least I am. I'm anticipating Tanner's book next.

Overall the book has everything a romance reader could want. Stoic hero. Rambling heroine. Fluff, smut, and plot!
It was a quick, easy, and enjoyable read. I couldn’t rate it further because, for me, it felt a bit juvenile in places, with more potential than actual delivery.
BUT!
There were a few bits I absolutely adored.
“This is the kind of kiss that makes smart girls stupid.”
I will always stan a grumpy-for-them soft-for-her man who makes his woman feel so effortlessly confident. I found the mention of condoms sexy, and I die for good communication; any and all displays of these things were absolute wins. And for as easy as Duke’s Redemption was to read, it covered some serious concepts and issues with both grace and competence. Our hero is a retired veteran and it showed. I admire the author’s inclusion of his struggles as well as the steps he made towards bettering his state of being. I also appreciate the less than stellar upbringing of our leads. The very real aspects of childhood trauma and what it means,
long term, to be so affected by less than stellar parents.
All of that to say, Duke and Avery were a good romantic duo! Great for each other and an enjoyable journey to boot!

This is a small town romance about Duke and Avery. Avery, who lives in Boston, inherits a house in Texas that must be renovated, from her father who’s passed away. Her father left her and her mother when she was a baby and has never met him, so in spite of her confusion and revelations she moves to Texas in hopes to find answers regarding the father she never met. Once arriving to Texas, she’s hires a handy man named Duke to help with the renovations. But he helps her with a lot more than just the house.
Duke is an ex navy seal who is closed off, doesn’t talk a lot, and has a traumatic past. The attraction and chemistry between these two was instant and hot!
Their relationship progressed rapidly. I usually don’t care for fast paced relationship developments but in this I loved the characters so much I actually didn’t mind.
The characters complimented eachother well. They both had anything but great pasts and they both helped eachother heal, together. Duke is amazing and worships Avery while she is super insecure with body. While Duke made her feel sexy, adored and loved, she made him feel loved, chased his nightmares away, and accepted for the person he is not what he’s done.
Super cute story and looking forward to read about the rest of the Samson brothers!

The start of The Samson Boys series by a new author to me but I will be reading the books that follow. Avery grew up not really knowing her father so when she got the news, he passed away leaving her a house in Tx. Although he wasn’t in her life he left her a house with conditions she can’t sell it, but she can rent it, but the house needs so many renovations feeling like she needs to supervise personally decides to move from Boston to Texas. Once she is in Boston the attorney recommends a handyman to handle all renovations. Duke sexy as all get out handman one of the Samson boys is recommended for a renovations job which he is thankful and showing up at the address never expecting it would shift his path meeting the beauty who owns the home. Immediately, the attraction is instant, from the moment they met, it is intense, and the magnetic pull is something they couldn’t ignored so immediately right from the start they started seeing each other but kept telling themselves it was just fun not realizing the more time they spent together the more their hearts became involved and not to mention fate put this whole situation into place. They each have their own issues but will it stop them or will they grow together, will she trust in what her heart, will they give each other a real chance, and will they find happiness at the end of their adventure?.

There was so much to love about this book.
Avery. The female main character is curvy! And she's not "I hate that I'm big. I need to change. I'm a cow.
He'll never see me that way." Curvy. She's unapologetically curvy and I'm here for it. There's one moment when she doubts and that's it. The rest is great. She's funny, quick witted, and just as dirty minded as any normal human being. Her confidence growth is refreshing. She has a family mystery, and even though it's a big deal she doesn't let it define her.
Duke. He's amazing. He gives her confidence. He welcomes her into small town life when she knows nothing but the big city. He allows her to be perverted without ever thinking any less of her cuz it's
"unladylike". He had a dark past and once he warms up to her, he tells her everything.
I was really happy that there was no he said, she said with these two. They never denied their feelings. And the last act of the book had a big moment that I didn't expect, but also fit right in with the rest of the story.
Duke's Redemption is well written, enjoyable, steamy, and makes me want a Duke, Hank, and George of my own.
AND it's Dual POV.
Highly recommend you Pre-Order it and give it a read when it's released. If you like protective, dark haired, sexy men you will enjoy Duke. And anyone can enjoy

It was a 2.5/3 🌟 read for me. I didn't catch any grammatical errors or otherwise, but I also couldn't really figure out if I was reading a romcom or a romantic suspense. Now, I know they're not mutually exclusive genres, but I felt like the rom-suspense was just thrown in there because the mystery wasn't good enough, it had to get violent.
The overall story had merit, though I felt like much of it we were being told rather than led through the narrative, but where it really fell short with the random super spy bad guy almost SA at the end. That was not a necessary element for the story, we could've just witnessed him attacking. There was also no trigger warning of said SA in the beginning of the book, which I think is an oversight these days.
The mouth on Duke was almost incongruous with the rest of his cinnamon roll character, but I won't deny that sometimes the quiet ones are the dirty ones, and his was well done without being overdone. I liked the mental health angle, as well.
Overall, I read it, enjoyed a good chunk of it, and as always, mad respect for anyone who takes the time to write and publish anything because it's hard, scary work to release a book baby.

This is the 1st book in The Samson Boys series featuring Duke and Avery's sweet and spicy emotional roller-coaster ride of a romance. Avery has inherited a house from the father that abandoned her and who she never knew so she plans on going to Texas to fix it up then she'll rent it out and go back to Boston. When she gets to Texas she hires Duke a former Navy Seal who struggles with PTSD and nightmares as her handyman to get the house in shape. You can see the sparks fly between them when they first meet each other as they're both instantly attracted to each other. Their connection only grows stronger as they get to know each other better starting with the friendship they develop and it continues as their relationship blossoms. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this sweet and spicy emotional romance. I would recommend reading this book and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Alright… so I really wanted to love this book. The beginning had me thinking “oh, one of these. How original”, but as the story went on, I started getting absorbed in the book. The characters were fun and I was following the “what happened to Duke” story. But then the book seemed to take off like a bat out of hell. The insta-love was a bit too insta for me. Dang. And then I blinked and they had a dog and moved in together. I wish I would have had more of the town and their lives. I love a good spicy book, but it seemed like they didn’t have much interaction outside the house. I get neither of them had many people to talk to in that town, but we only got one scene with the brothers and one scene with them at the moms (aside from the ending). I did, however, love the brothers! It just felt a bit rushed, I guess. I could have used more fluff to give me more insight on the characters themselves. And the insta-love (with cringe spicy scenes) maybe wouldn’t have felt so sudden with the extra fluff. Still a decent read, and it was quick. So it helped me get closer to my March reading goal

Duke's Redemption is a sweet grumpy-sunshine romance that was a joy to read. Ms. Renee gives us two characters that have led completely different lives but they have a connection that is endearing. Avery is a city girl whereas Duke is a small-town ex-military guy that is grumpy and alone. Being left a house by a father that she never knew, had Avery's life turned upside down. Why? Well, this house was in a small town in Texas, she lives in Boston, and she could not sell it to make any money. The only thing was to get it fixed up and rent it. Easy right? Not for Avery because in walks Duke, her contractor and boy was he handsome, but grumpy and not very open. Little by little walls break down, fin times are had and feelings get involved. Will she stay and leave Boston? Could Duke live in a big city to be with her? Will what they have, help heal each other?
I really enjoyed Duke's Redemption and I recommend adding this one to your TBR list.

My first read by this author, it's a small town grump/sunshine read.
Duke is an exSEAL, and he's having a hard time readjusting to everyday life and currently works as the towns handyman.
Avery inherits a house from her father that she knew absolutely nothing about - guess who she employs to help fix the house up?....
I liked the two of them, there was no major faffing about, Duke suffers from PTSD but is currently in therapy and I loved that. A lot of the time, he goes because of the h, but here, he was already attending and that stood out for me, definitely a plus!
There are secrets uncovered, major attraction, relatable thoughts and uts an overall decent read. There is lots of potential with this book and I hope she takes on a few beta readers to help take her to the next level!

Avery finds out she inherits a house from her father who she never knew. The condition of the will is that she doesn't sell it - she doesn't have to live in it, but she can't sell it. She loves Boston, but decides to go to the house and check things out. She hires Duke as a handyman as the house is in pretty bad shape. He's an ex-Seal and has a troubled past. They slowly get to know each other and then they find a mystery box which explains alot. She finds out she has a grandfather too. Her father's past comes out to bite her in the butt but Duke saves the day.
The story had some very hot sex scenes, some sweet scenes, tough talks about parents, a mystery that is finally solved, some drama and danger.
Don't forget about the new puppy, George or Hank, the raccoon. A very good story.

I devoured this small town romance in nearly one setting. The characters were beautifully written and easy to connect to. The ending was not your typical lovers quarrel, which left me pleasantly surprised.
Avery is a curvy editor that receives surprising news that she’s inherited a property in a small town in Texas from her estranged fathers passing. She’s not able to get rid of it and it also needs a ton of work. Taking a couple months off to travel down there to fix it up, she’s put in contact with the local handyman, Duke. Duke, a veteran struggling to get back to normal life after years in service, accepts the job to keep busy.
This small town romance has spice, secrets, reconnection, and found family. Thank you to the author for sharing this book with me. Must read.

This was a scrumptious book. I devoured this book in one day. This is a grumpy sunshine love trope. There’s humor, the characters are realistic and lovable. Our main character, Avery has found out that her biological father has passed away and left her house on the other side of the country. While she’s renovating the house, she must stay there. That’s when she meets her handyman Duke, stoic, and quiet are the two words that best describe his character.
Well, unraveling the mystery of her father, the sparks between Avery and Duke fly. This book had 🌶️🌶️🌶️ of spicy out of 5. This read had a wonderful mix of romance, spice, mystery, and self discovery, that it kept my attention at all times. Wonderful Hallmark meets we are not faking to black vibe.

I was so excited to read this new series and it didn’t disappointed me at all. I love this book. Duke with all his dark past, has all the love of the world for Avery. Avery was ready for a new adventure in life without knowing it. Both they are so really good, in every aspect. They can talk, they can laugh and cry together and they definitely have one of the most amazing chemistry together. I love all the caveman instincts in Duke and how Avery’s complements him (specially with Scarlet lol). With a twist you never see coming, the proof of love is there for them, more like a proof of life. Can’t wait to read the stories from all the Samson boys and this small town of Texas.
PS. You are going to laugh with Hank, that’s obviously, I want one!

Oh man. This book was so so bad. I’m sorry to the author. But this is one of the most cringy repetitive book I have read in a while.
“I have big boobs, making everything extremely sensitive”
As if size is what determines sensitivity 🙄 Avery is constantly referred to as a pig because she is “curvy”
And we get it- the most over used word in the first sex scene is SENSITIVE. From the first kiss in the kitchen the word sensitive was used at least five times. Every time duke talks about sex prior to Avery it’s always “a means to get his dick wet.” It’s literally repeated every. Single. Time. Omg.
I had to force myself to finish the book, and honestly only did because I am trying to not DNF any books this year.

Avery had just gotten the most random visit from an attorney while she was at work. She just got notice that her late father had left her a house. To say she was shocked was an understatement, especially since her father walked out on her and her mother when she was a baby. She goes to Texas to go fix up the house to find more surprises.
Avery listed Duke as her help with fixing up this house that she wants to rent. But does that go as planned?
This book was adorable and I absolutely loved it. I felt like there could have been some more background information about her dad and those secrets but still a great read and I cannot wait to read the next book!

This is the first in a new series, and this is Duke and Avery’s story. Avery is a bubbly ray of sunshine, who moves into town to fix up an old house her dad left her, and Duke is a grumpy ex-navy seal, who is working as a contractor, and he is hired by Avery. The sparks fly between these two and they compliment each other perfectly. This is a well written sweet and fun story, with humor, witty banter, emotions, romance, suspense, intrigue, family, friendships, and love, which leads to an entertaining page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I enjoyed this book very much. I loved how well the characters fit together, and really brought out each other’s strengths. The banter and the spice were on point. I felt like the mystery aspect took a huge backseat to the romance though. Just when we started to get some hints and clues, and the suspense picks up, bam, it’s done. Overall this was a good and enjoyable read with lots of spice and sweet moments between our main characters. I love that Duke made it his personal mission to get Avery to see her beauty and her worth. And I loved that Avery was just her funny, quirky self with him. I am looking forward to his brothers’ stories!

This new small town series is a steamy intro for Duke and his brothers. Duke is a closed-off ex-military guy, and Avery is a bubbly city girl who discovers a fondness for wildlife. Once these two give in to each other, they can't stay away. Avery calms Duke's demons and Duke helps Avery see how beautiful she is. The suspense at the end was a nice touch, but the HEA won out. And I love how Duke and his momma started the process to make amends. It makes my heart so happy when family can reconcile. Great start to a new series!

What's not to love about this book-small town setting, reconciliation, PTSD struggles, steamy romance, tough guy turns softie, self-conscious girl feels like a million bucks, and the beauty of finding your person-it has it all. For all of us fluffy, curvy girls-time to feel seen! With this being the first in the Samson Boys Series, cannot wait to see where the next book takes us, and on to which brother?! This is one of my new favorite authors, and can't wait to get my hands on everything she has written!

I had the privilege to receive and ARC of this book and I am glad that I did! Avery and Dukes story was so sweet! We got introduced to Avery who has just inherited a home In Texas and Duke a ex Navy SEAL who was living life doing odd handyman jobs. When Avery walked into Dukes life she was the light his dark existence.
This book was a quick read, so to some it might feel like a rushed story. To me, it was cute, sweet and steamy. I recommend this book for anyone who’s in a reading slump as it got he through mine.

Overall it was a decent read, it felt very inata love which is not my favorite but i know lots of other people like that trope. For me i couldnt get past how instantly she seemed to change him, he was just over a lot of trauma. The pace was alwo a little slow for me but the overall plot was good and it did have some spice and also cute and funny moments. I did receive an and arc copy so there were some typos and a duplicate chapter that threw me off a bit but the is to be expected for an unfinished book.

I’ve 1 starred this book for the 100 pages I read before I had to DNF it.
Yes we get that the h is a curvy girl but how many times do you want to describe it? when we read about a thin h the author is not constantly talking about her perfect figure etc etc. Also what with the use of the word pig?
