This book is for the purpose of helping you understand what avionics you have in your aircraft, and what to look for if something doesn’t work right. It can be a great help when telling your friendly Avionics shop about your problems. The class of aircraft and electronics discussed are from the light single engine through the light twins. I have only listed recurring failures and fixes that I have experienced over the many years I have been in this business. I entered the Air Force in 1952, went to their Avionics school, and spent my four-year enlistment maintaining Avionics equipment and systems. I worked as an Avionics technician for Capitol Airlines for four years, and since then for General Aviation. During that time I have repaired thousands of radios. I have told many pilots things they didn’t know about their Avionics and systems. Perhaps I can give you some useful information that might get you out of a jam sometime. (from the Preface)
