You can't escape the past, no matter how much you lie...
When a body is discovered in remote allotments on the edge of town, DI Fenella Sallow's quiet Saturday is shattered. Her first thoughts are that it was a terrible accident. But the bludgeoned corpse tells a different story.
Why would anyone attack a gardener working their vegetable plot?
That is not the only problem Fenella must face. Soon, a snatched baby, echoes of ghosts from the past and a newspaper reporter on the hunt for a big story all add to her troubles. But the killer will stop at nothing to bury the hideous truth and Fenella knows if she does not peel away the lies fast, more deaths will follow.
Set against the backdrop of beautiful coastal Cumbria, an ancient land of legend, folklore and myth, this page-turning crime thriller will keep you hooked until the very end.
If you like police procedurals with psychologically complex characters and shocking twists, then you’ll love Resurrection Bones.
My 2nd NC Lewis book. Another complicated murder mystery in a small Scottish coastal town. DI Fanella is back at it. I liked this one better than the first I read because the ending was constructed much better. Now, without giving a spoiler, I will say one miscreant has apparently got off clean but I expect that will be resolved in another book.
This series just keeps getting better! DI Fenella Sallow is kept busy investigating the brutal death of a gardener and the kidnapping of a baby. Everyone seems to be keeping secrets and it’s up to Fenella and her team to find the truth. A complex plot with multiple story lines, well drawn characters and expert craftsmanship make this book a winner. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.
Another book full of plot twists and interesting characters. The books a easy to read and can be completed in an afternoon easily because you don't want to stop turning the pages. Even though the murder seems to have been solved, you know there will be another piece of evidence that takes a different path to the real killer.
This detective cares about people. As a higher ranked manager, she constantly monitors her staff and struggles with her urge to know about their personal issues. As a senior officer, she arranges for a meal providing support group for officers’ families. In this story, she figures things out using her understanding of people psychology.
Fenella and team had to solve a murder and a baby kidnapping. But all is not as it seems within the team. I enjoyed reading this book. I look forward to reading more! I highly recommend this book.
I love Fenella and her crew! I think these are great books, but please expand on the characters more. What do they look like where do they live,? More details savour them would be great.
The plot is laid, the plot thickens DI Fenella and her team are on the case. Exciting and fast moving, will the team catch their man. Will gladly tell my friends to read these books. Excellent story lines.
The author generally puts out a number of false leads, but I think fewer here than most. The author tied together everything but one. Perhaps that will be handled next time.
NC Lewis has a knack of leading you to one conclusion, then swiftly turning the tables on you. Just when you think you've figured it out, bam - it twists again. No spoilers, but she's not been caught yet.
There are any number of words and phrases I don’t understand since I don’t live in England, but they don’t detract from an interesting plot and likable main characters. I thought I had this one figured out, but I was totally wrong.
I've read a few of these, but won't bother again. The characters are one-dimentional and there's a lot of repetition amongst the books. They've become boring.
I have enjoyed others in the series but this was the hardest to even finish! So many unpleasant characters and storylines made for mass confusion. Took forever for me to finish it.
