Torrent Witches Complete Series Box Set! All ten books in one!
Meet Harlow Torrent, part-time journalist and full-time Slip Witch and her crazy witch family in this ten-book cozy mystery box set.
Butter Witch (Torrent Witches Book 1) The International Butter Festival has come to town! When Harlow Torrent, part-time journalist and full-time Slip witch stumbles upon a dead body, frozen and drained of blood, she's pulled into a murder mystery. Someone has murdered one of the Butter Festival competitors. Was it Zero Bend, punk sculptor extraordinaire with a history of violence? Perhaps Fusion Swan, a sleazy agent playing the publicity game when his clients meet their untimely end. Between trying to run her struggling online newspaper, dealing with her highly caffeinated cousins Molly and Luce, fending off three meddling witch mothers who will do anything to get their daughters married off (including drugging food with magic potions) and great Aunt Cass who appears to be running an underground laboratory of some kind, Harlow barely has time to breathe, let alone solve a murder. Romance certainly isn't on the cards either but the hot scruffy guy new to town seems to have other ideas...
Treasure Witch (Torrent Witches Book 2) Harlow Torrent, part-time journalist and full-time Slip Witch is pulled into a murder mystery when the skeletons of a man and a girl are uncovered on Truer Island. Seeing visions of the past that are all too real and ghosts who are becoming more solid by the day, Harlow is trying to keep her online newspaper running, dealing with her meddling witch family and working out what to do about the very handsome Jack Bishop being back in town. But Harlow might be out of her depth when the murderer sets their sights on her!
Hidden Witch (Torrent Witches Book 3) Harlow Torrent, part-time journalist and full-time Slip Witch is hot on the trail of an arsonist. But who is behind the deadly fires? Someone working for their own evil ends or a fire spirit acting according to its nature? Or perhaps a magical power hidden away? Between dealing with sleazy real estate developers intent on getting their hands on Torrent Mansion, a teenage Slip Witch who just might be the Queen of Sarcasm, a talking magical cat who smells like lavender, and an AWOL potential future boyfriend, Harlow would love nothing more than a peaceful Summer. But when an special arson investigator arrives in town with his sights set on Harlow, she has to fight to clear her name!
Fabulous Witch (Torrent Witches Book 4) Harlow Torrent, part-time journalist and full-time Slip Witch has a new job working on the set of Bella Bing’s latest movie, filming in Harlot Bay. It’s meant to be a change of pace but when the lead actor, Mattias Matterhorn, dies on his first day on set, Harlow is pulled into a dangerous plot. A saboteur is on set and they’ll do anything to shut the film down... including murder. With the ghost of Mattias demanding she find his murderer, her witchy cousins Molly and Luce tracking down a thief and her Aunt Cass getting into hot and spicy trouble, Harlow has her plate full. It doesn’t help one bit when she Slips and starts a magical storm...
Holiday Witch (Torrent Witches Book 5) Harlow Torrent, part-time journalist and full-time Slip Witch wants nothing more than to take a holiday from witchy things... but when a series of thefts around Harlot Bay turn deadly, she’s drawn into solving a murder mystery. Between murderous teenagers, a secret buried in the past, Hattie Stern on the warpath, Christmas approaching and Aunt Cass suffering a very froggy problem, Harlow is doing everything she can to enjoy her holiday but th
This was such a fun series to listen to. I got it as a free audible pick and am so happy I gave it a chance! When it first began I was rolling my eyes thinking this is going to be a cheesy series but was pleasantly surprised to find myself really enjoying the characters and the town of Harlot Bay. I found myself looking forward to any chance I had to listen and thinking about the characters when I wasn’t. The author did a great job of weaving an overarching storyline that culminates in the last book without going overboard in foreshadowing, as many authors tend to do. If you’re looking for a breezy read these will definitely do the job!
I have spent two weeks reading these books .I cried through some of it and laughed out loud at that parts. I tried to solve the mysteries I just loved these books. You gave me something to keep me. Going through the bad times. I don't know how to thank you enough. Tell you what you keep writing them and I will keep reading them sincerely christinedunne Harlingen Texas
I give these books 5 stars Wahoo! I laughed so much my stomach hurt! These books kept me up way past my bedtime many nights. The 🐱 cat certainly reminds me of my sister's husband's cat named Leo who lives with me temporarily while they search for a new home. Leo the cat orders me about although I believe salmon is his favorite over tuna. The girl cat coming over to visit and sharing cat food has happened at my house and Leo's girlfriend is named Sarah. I thought she would eat me out of my house. Glad she moved! The other characters crazy cranky Aunt Cass reminds me of my self. The mom's of three witches make it real raising children with out their husbands. Where DID all the good men go? Must be a curse. Will the cousins be able to break the curse of men go missing before they get married? Will Aunt Cass help her ex best friend and now her mortal enemy and back to best friends? When you read these books you will buy lemons and make tasty tart sweet lemonade. I enjoyed reading these books and look forward to hearing more about the Torrents and Stern witches and their side kicks.
This was such a cute series. Easy to follow, well written and I wish there was more. The author did mention at the end there is a possibility that another book could be in the future, but nothing for certain. I'm sad I'm done with it. It was so good I never wanted to stop.
This was quite an adventure reading all ten books. It starts out with very basic English, then gets better. For some reason there is excessive consumption of wine. There is a reason behind the drinking, but it got old quickly. Like all book series, some stories are better than others. There were some very well defined characters. This series had a lot of ups and downs which made for relating to a lot of situations that all families deal with. All of the books were clean. I really had a tough time understanding some of the curses that went back in their families history. There was no devil type worship. The family was actually anti dark magic.
I had a difficult time reading the final book. It almost seems like someone else wrote it. Very different style from the others. There was an HEA, but I almost wish I hadn't read the last book. It left my emotions troubled while reading it. Even though it worked out, it left me feeling empty.
Butter Witch (book 1 of Torrent Witches Cozy Mysteries Complete Box Set of 10)
2021 Grade B-/C+
An odd, interesting fantasy/mystery but not a particularly engrossing read. Still, good enough to try book 2. The prose style reminds me a bit of old hardboiled mysteries. It's easy to read, fast moving, and not overly descriptive while still setting the scene very well. The magic in the story is different from most I have read and not used a lot. There is also not a lot of active investigation. These are not bad things.
It is more about the interaction of the protagonist with her sisters, parents and aunt in her strange seven member three generation family of female witches. The crime solving comes about as she also interacts with the other characters in her small "haunted" beach town with lots on interesting characters. I am wondering if book one was intended to be mainly character development (which is good) and book two will be different. I will find out eventually. I wondered if book 2 would be different and it is. It is much better! Not enough to make me not want to put it down but enough so I came back to read much more regularly. The prose is more traditional and less hardboiled and still easy to read.
This time they are trying to solve a crime from the past while the protagonist sees ghosts from the past including scenery that blocks the view of the present, which makes driving difficult. (BTW, most trees have cream colored interiors, not brown.)
There was quite a bit more magic in the story, still used in fun ways. And again the mystery is mostly solved through the interaction of the protagonist with her sisters, parents, aunt and other characters in her small "haunted" beach town. The only bit I did not like was the open ended short prophecy conclusion after the "ouch," about a page from the end.

Quite Enjoyable.

Book 3 is a fast, easy, light, and fun to read cozy, fantasy, mystery, and romance (had fun with lists there). Who is setting fires to structures in town? Is it the visiting magical teenage "relative," or the protagonist, or one of the nasty real estate developers. Who is the mystery boyfriend and will the protagonist's boyfriend ever return from Canada?
The magic in the story is still used in interesting ways. Again the mystery is mostly solved through the interaction of the protagonist with her sisters, parents, aunt and other characters in the small "haunted" beach town. I figured out some of the mystery before the reveal which is mostly a blunder into it type story. But I still enjoyed it.
Quite Enjoyable.

This story never quite grabbed hold. One of the problems with using the same characters and location over and over is it limits the character and world building opportunities. So the new story and situation have to be exceptionally strong. This story was not. In fact, in the author's own words, it was just a series of fiascos. As near as I can tell the family of witches is in exactly the same state at the end of the book as in the beginning. But I've already forgotten the details.
This one can be skipped.

This novel was a fun, light, fast read. The Torrent family is interesting to read about if not too often. There is quite a bit of repetition from both earlier novels and internally. I just speed read those bits mostly by jumping to the end of an overlong paragraph but also sometimes skipping over a bit that does not move the new plot along. The protagonist is supposedly on a holiday from just about everything but, of course, gets pulled into solving a magical mystery.
If this novel had ended with chapter 24 of the 25, it would have been an excellent end for the series, it was that enjoyable. Chapter 25 just sort of sets up novel 6. I'll get there eventually when I need something pleasant to read.

This story was just to repetitious and tedious for me. The repetition included material from the previous novels and from within this novel. The tediousness was from an over abundance of daily life minutiae. Both of them included incredibly long paragraphs. I started speed reading early on, could only stand three chapters at a time, and caused me to skip from the middle of the book to the last few chapters. All this at the expense of the new story line. I will probably skip the next several novels and just read the last one.
Not recommended.

This is the final story in the Torrent witch series and I enjoyed it. I think the whole series might be commercially publishable if a good editor pared it down to six or seven books total.
I skipped over books 7, 8 and 9 because I got significantly bored with the repetition in books 4 and 6. I thought it might be more interesting if some of the middle content was missing. It was. I only had to do short bits of speed reading on long paragraphs or short term repetitions. There were continuity errors but they were tolerable. In fact the major continuity error of the missing boyfriend is resolved in this story as are all the other long story arcs.
Over all, I would recommend skipping books 4 and 6 and maybe book 7 or 8. Once the protagonists' boyfriend is established you can skip up to him going missing which should be in book 9 or 8.

I found these books to be a very pleasant diversion from my normal fare. Harlow Torrent was a confused about life adult still trying to figure life out just as a person, then as a witch with random powers, then as someone falling in love. Lots going on but it never felt overwhelming, just that you wanted to see how everything would play out. A very nice read.
Cozy is probably the best way to describe this series. I’ve stopped and started a few times, but very glad I finished. This series was a great pallet cleanser from other genres I enjoy. Thank you Tess Lake for sharing the Torrent witches with us.
I wasn’t sure at first whether I would enjoy listening to a 10 book box set. I really thought I might get bored before I finished all 10 books, but I didn’t. It held my attention. I enjoyed the story. It was a pleasant surprise. And the best part was that it was free. Gotta love, Audible plus!
Hooray, I am done with this! This sort of stuff is what happens when I run out of audible credits and have to dive into the audible plus catalogue.
I wonder how old this author is. I suspect she was very young when she started this project. That would explain a lot. Summing this whole series up in ten points.
1. Harlow and her cousins are supposed to be mid-twenties, but at all times act as if they were thirteen. Probably this is why their mothers treat them as if they were thirteen, except for the weird and extremely pushy pressure to marry and have children as soon as possible.
2. Nobody in this toxic family knows the meaning of the word 'boundary'. They do know the meaning of 'breaking and entering', but don't seem to understand that it's still actually illegal even if you are a witch. Even if you are pretending to be a journalist. Even if the head of the local police is your uncle.
3. The cat, and I say this as a 100% cat person, is annoying and useless. The fact that it's a magical cat who can talk is clearly only meant as some sort of comic relief, which unfortunately isn't very funny.
4. Do not believe other reviewers about Aunt Cass being 'the coolest ever' or 'the best character'. And no, you don't want to be her when you grow up, because she is at all times unpleasantly sarcastic, arrogant, and mean for the sake of being mean.
5. If you don't enter a room for a week or two there will be so much dust in there that it will show on your clothing just by having been in there to the point where other people feel the need to comment on it. Inch thick layers of dust. Apparently. How would I know how dust accumulation in the US works? All I'm saying is, it's not that fast where I live. And I have pets in my house. I'm not sure this author understand how dust works.
6. $20 bills are apparently so worthless that you can just shove several of them in a drawer and forget about them and then go on to complain about how you're low on funds because you haven't got a real job and your car is really old and unreliable. Instead of, you know, putting them in your pocket or something...
7. Nobody just eats food. They eat delicious food and we frequently nearly get the no doubt delicious recipe. And drink delicious coffee. And delicious wine. And delicious water. Lots of delicious water. So much delicious water. No risk of dehydration here with all the delicious water. Did I mention it was delicious?
8. Somehow it's possible to keep a succesful business going while still closing up for the day at random times whenever something more interesting is going on. Or whenever someone just flat out tells you to because they feel somehow more important than anything else. See points 2 and 4. I'm not sure this author understand how jobs work either.
9. Teenagers are a completely different species. Any crime of any sort (that isn't done by witches), it's probably some teenagers. You can tell just by the way they talk. C-Money? H-Bomb? K-Fresh? Seriously?
10. The superficial approach to romance gets tiresome really quickly. A woman who doesn't have a 'handsome scruffy' partner is clearly not a complete person and surely she must be wanting one as soon as possible and any 'handsome scruffy' man will do. When Harlow finds she isn't interested in that, it's treated by herself and others as though there must be something awfully wrong with her, because HOW could she POSSIBLY not be attracted to this guy who is obviously impossibly handsome and scruffy? So nobody backs off about it, nobody accepts her not being interested and nobody even ponders for a moment that maybe there's more to a relationship than how scruffy and handsome people are. And the whole thing about single men being chased by literally hordes of women and their mothers is just too stupid for any further mention.
Bonus point 11. I think Luce has an alcohol problem or she has previously suffered a stroke. Or is that just the narrator deciding that she talks in a slurred way that occasionally is quite difficult to understand? I didn't get on with this narrator.
I thoroughly enjoyed this feel-good series! It's so cozy, and listening to it genuinely felt like a treat.
I love how Lake blends the fantastic with the mundane. There's just something uniquely interesting about seeing the same character face deadly magical creatures and also worry about employment and finances. Harlow's combined strength and insecurities, plus her authentic inner voice, make our heroine super relatable and delightful to follow.
If I'm being honest, there's a bit of repetitive vocabulary and a few frays in the smaller plots, but I found myself not even caring because the characters are just so wonderful. Lake does a great job of developing each character's personality with refining details that give the reader a sense of being right there amongst them. Just as impressively, she also depicts realistic family dynamics, further strengthening each character through their interpersonal relationships and expertly capturing that dichotomy of love and frustration.
The books also deserve a ton of credit for their creativity. The concept of a Slip Witch is brilliant, captivating, and perfectly depicted in all its glory and frustrations. And the larger plot is fascinating and so well developed, especially the way it's woven throughout the smaller mysteries and plot lines.
On top of being comfy and intriguing, this series is also hilarious. I literally laughed out loud through several of both Aunt Cass' and Adams' antics. And much like the detailed character development, the subtle humor throughout is not only amusing but familiar, reading like old jokes with good friends.
I sort of liked the first book but I disliked the rest. I also hated how they each end in a cliffhanger to try and get you to read the rest. I don't like Harlow, she's a lackluster mc who doesn't seem to know how to interact with other people. One minute she's letting people walk all over the her the next she's yelling at someone for dumb reasons.
I pretty much hate anything with the "moms". Toxic family dynamics with people who are demanding, don't respect boundaries, infantilize their adult children but expect them to have relationships and procreate not for their own sake but because mommy wants something out of the deal? Wow how endearing.
The plot lines are also not cohesive. I hate hate hate how threads get picked up in book one like that plotline is going somewhere but there is no progress on that until book 9. The main storyline of each book feels more like a subplot because of the other plot that runs throughout all of the books and it can be hard to tell which is which, or just random info added for absolutely no reason.
I also don't like the lack of description regarding the town , what Harlow and her cousins even look like, along with the moms. All we get are descriptions of places that exist in the town, directions they're driving in, new characters, Jack's eyes and scruffiness, and people's outfits. I can't create a mental picture of any of the main characters nor much of the town.
Be prepared to laugh out loud This is a great series from start to finish with in depth character development and a great story line. At times you may want to burst out laughing and at other times they want to cry. There are times you may want to facepalm or shake your head. There are parts of this story line which are too funny and corny. There is a cousin who can make any doom and glummer seem like a normal person. She was backed up by the worrier! Then comes in the moms who want the family to survive, but frat over babies. The crazy, sarcastic and wise aunt whose hygienics keep the story very interesting. Toss in a teenage girl with a stoic aunt as icing on top of it all. This is a great series for teens and maybe a little younger. There is no sex or mention of it though there is talk of babies. It’s just a lot of fun and it was worth the time to read! I’ve told two trends about it and maybe they’ll read it. Get ready for some wholesome fun! I hope the author writes more stories!
Three witch cousins, three kitchen witch moms who are sisters. A great aunt that shares the gift of seeing ghosts with one of the cousins who is an online journalist. They live in the family mansion and it's a bed N breakfast. Live in small town that depends on tourism to survive. The town cop is friends with the moms. The other two cousins own a shop together. The girls often get curse spells cast on them by the great Aunt. This is also the character and setting of the wicked witches of the Midwest by Amanda Lee. I don't know who created this set of characters first, but I actually like the Torrent witches best and the storylines are more realistic. No one is on a list of going to be made to eat dirt. There are believable conversation among the characters.. It's just there are so many similar things between the two authors books.
65 hours 31 minutes done, and I'm so sad it's over! 😭😭😭 This set was so so SO good! And I'm glad I listened instead of reading it. I think I enjoyed it much more than I would've if I hadn't heard the personalities of the different characters. There's a ton of charm and character and wholesomeness to this series. While not shying away from some darker themes as well. And, while I love a good smutty romance as much as the next person, I loved the lack of it in this series. It just wouldn't fit. I could go on and on about what I loved about the Torrent Witches. Harlot Bay would also be such an interesting place to visit, if only it were real! I absolutely want to try some of the moms' baked goods, or the Traveler's coffee! Adams and Aunt Cass, my favorites, oh they were so sassy and fun!
I think I'm gonna need a minute to process the ending of an Era before I can begin a new book 😭🥺🤣
I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars. All 10 books feed from one book into another like a large continuous novel. Comedy, mystery, modern, & love stories are all woven together. The narrator is excellent & can communicate snark well. The books flow in a lovely pace defining a new type of undependable witchcraft & a family of female witches marrying, reproducing at least a daughter, and then ending up alone due to a curse. “The fathers always leave”. each book had a focus, slowly clues build towards this mystery. I found myself listening at every opportunity to Harlow & the Harlot Bay community. She and her two cousins do break the law in order to solve the magical mysteries witchy style. The one draw back is how well everything flowed until the end. The ending felt rushed and at a pace inconsistent with the author’s style. I would still recommend the listen.
My favorite book in the series is the last one, and the series as a whole got better with each book.
This series was a fun read. I downloaded it on a whim last fall. Emily Henry’s “Happy Place” convinced me I should try reading some cozy mysteries, and I’d been on a witchy fiction kick, so this series seemed potentially perfect. My only real complaints are that there was a decent amount of body hate/body shame/diet talk, especially in the earlier books and it annoyed me that the main character said “a long time ago” whenever she was referencing something from a previous book despite the timeline never feeling that long.
The characters are interesting and flawed, in normal ways, and they have a lovely and realistic family dynamic. Long live Aunt Cass & Adams!
What a completely enjoyable series! I got the ten set series on audible at a recommendation of “since you liked”, and let me tell you, I am glad I grabbed it. Entertaining, well written fun story that is narrated by a fabulous voice actor! Sharing all the emotion and snark necessary for these characters.
Love how the stories truly tie in and reflect back to each plot line, and the joy of friendship, love, courage and even uncomfortable angst and strange families! It was written very well, and wrapped up in the whole of ten books. Thanks Tess Lake for a great journey, it was a blast getting to know the Torrent Witches and all of their quirks, laughs and true devotion to family and friendship.
It was a good young adult series, ages 15-30 could relate easily to the main 3 young characters At the end of it I felt like I was going to miss the characters. There were a few times where I needed to go back to figure out who the writer was referring to, which I find annoying, but that could have been due to the fact that I was listening to the books on audible while working. perhaps if I was reading the books that would have been a non issue. good stories. writer does a good job wrapping up the story and if you read just one book randomly out of order the writer does a great job of filling in missing info pertinent to the current book from previous stories, although a few times it felt unnecessary for a couple of stories.
Read all ten in a row, it was really great! Took longer than I thought it would though. This is a family of Aunt Cass, her frozen sister, April, and April's three daughters. Each of her daughters has a daughter. They all live together in a run-down mansion. They get into all kinds of trouble in their little sea-side town. The great-nieces have human boyfriends. The author keeps us entertained and really digs deep into her characters well. Each has a career and they pull together as a witchy family to help each other out. I really loved the series and hated to see it end. I am looking forward to exploring this author more.
One of my favorite things about this one is all of the books in the series is in this box set. I can jump into the next book after completing the current book. The characters were not perfect but fun. Even for family, they had each other's back while not always being on good terms. The mysteries were good especially the underlying one that Harlow was working on that linked to another that Aunt Cass was secretly looking into that somehow involved grandma April and Hattie Stern.
I loved Jack, Kira, and Ollie. They were great supporting characters, especially to the younger Torrent witches.
This was a marathon that was intense, complex, and often quite humorous (which I loved). I enjoyed all of the 10 books combined in this purchase and appreciated the opportunity to be able to read them without waiting for the next book to be written. Otherwise, I may have found it difficult to keep track of all of the characters moving from the past to present and overlapping time.
The only thing that irked me was the over use of the word “gulp” and all the variations of it. In some cases it was a great choice as it gave the sense of urgency or panic, but after awhile, i found it a little repetitive. Have fun with this series!
I had started reading these books ages ago, then stopped. What a mistake!. Thankfully a quick recap and I was good to go. Loved the characters. Aunt Cass was spunky (hope I turn out like her). The three moms were typical moms, worrying about their children, being single moms because their husbands had left. A frozen grandma, friends/enemies abound. Ghosts, murders, romance and magic. The past has caught up with the Torrent witches and in turn the Stern witches. A curse, thrown through love/ fear its time to fix it. But can the family hold onto their memories.
Good flatline. It’s intricate without being confusing. And there’s good Creative detail. The setting was Explained well too. And picturing myself there made a story fun. But About halfway through the series, I got sick of the tropes like “that owned the bakery we still looked slim” and “he had the most beautiful blue eyes” (Every description of an attractive person had blue eyes). The writing about the romantic relationships and the relationship of the three cousins with their mothers seemed like It was written by a 13-year-old. Kept taking me out of the story. Overall, it was entertaining, but I was ready for the series to be over.
Torrent Witches Cozy Mysteries is comfort reading with a mischievous grin: witchy small town, zippy plotting, and characters who land their quips without feeling canned. Aunt Cass steals every scene she’s allowed near, and Adams the cat has enough attitude to unionize the familiars. The series glides from case to case with warm-and-fuzzy vibes, the narrative equivalent of a blanket fresh from the dryer. And I’ve got to say, watching John’s story unfold was surprisingly satisfying—handled with more nuance than I expected, without breaking that cozy tone. It’s not reinventing the cauldron, but it’s definitely worth curling up with.
I really enjoyed this series about Harlow Torrent, a slip witch and part time journalist whose magic starts fires, gives her visions and the ability to see and interact with ghosts. I especially enjoyed the hilarious moments when Harlow and her cousins Magic would get out of control and expand. I also liked their match making mothers and rebel Aunt. The Grandmother who is frozen in time and kept in the basement is key to the mystery that runs through the entire series. Harlows interaction with John the ghost also turns out to be a key to the Torrent witches past
