Phyllis Schlafly (1924-2016) was an American constitutional lawyer, conservative activist, and author.
She was known for her staunch social and political conservatism, her opposition to modern feminism, and her successful campaign against the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s.
"Why is Khruschev so confident of burying us, when Lenin only thought Communism had only a 50/50 chance? The answer is that Khruschev has the help of American gravediggers. These men are not Communists. They are card-carrying liberals. They will not commit the crime. They will merely dig the grave."
Awesome. I picked this book up at a presbyterian thrift store in rural Washington state because the cover just about screamed "crazy". The "peace through nuclear annihilation of the Red Menace" philosophy contained inside is nuttier than I could have hoped for. Well worth the 25 cents I paid for it.
I have no idea who the John Birch society is, but apparently this Phyllis Schafley is some kind of patron saint to these folks. The fact that there are people in this world who would enjoy or even agree with this kind of shrill ultra-conservatism is a little scary, but hey - what do I care? I just picked up this book because it funnay.
I just hope that Goldwater wins the election so we can start building more Nike-Zeus missiles to protect us from the liberal media...
I can't give this the non-fiction tag. I just can't.
A piece of right-Republican Cold War batshittery, shilling for Goldwater and arguing that everyone who is not for nuking anyone to his left is a full-on Communist infiltrator. I don't think I'm even exaggerating.
