Bad Decision

Rate this book
An affair, a dead wife, a single dad, his sister-in-law, and a whole lot of Bad Decisions.
I had a normal life, until I didn't. Until my wife drove straight into a tree and left me a single father. Until her younger sister, Reagan, came to town and was desperate to get out of her mother's house. Until I had the brilliant idea to ask her to move in with me and be a nanny to my daughter.

Now, with her constantly around, it's hard to ignore these feelings I have for her—feelings I know I shouldn't have. It's not until one drunken night I step way over the line and we make so many bad decisions we can never go back to who we were before.

I feel guilty and like I'm betraying my wife. But when information about her comes to light and I learn the truth, I'm all but ready to forget about the wife and marriage I thought I had.

But can I do it?
Can I really fall for my dead wife's little sister?

My life has been one bad decision after another, but this one, staying silent when Reagan needed me most, has to be my biggest one and I don't know how to fix it.

Bad Decisions is a dual-POV forbidden romance between a single dad with a filthy mouth, and his much younger sister-in-law who's desperate for his attention.

Hi, I'm Haley Tyler, a dark romance author from Texas!

I’m the one behind the gritty Salvatore Brotherhood MC series and the dark paranormal romance Calling on the Reaper. My stories are filled with characters you love to hate and plots that twist and turn when you least expect it.

I’ve been telling stories my whole life, but I officially became a published author in 2021 with my debut novel, Killing Calm (book 1 in the SBMC series!). Since then, I’ve been living and breathing my dark, twisted worlds.

When I’m not writing, you can catch me listening to Taylor Swift or heavy metal (because there’s no in-between), binge-watching the latest TV series, or diving into a good romance novel.

If you’re looking for your next dark romance obsession, you’ve found it. Welcome to my world!

Elliot & Reagan

OMG I was not prepared for Elliot…. Not one bit. God this man is everything you want in a book boyfriend, well more appropriately a book daddy. Once Eli and Reagan finally got together after all that tension between them, my jaw literally dropped to the floor over that switch that just flipped in him. The praise, the baby girls and good girls dropped, just the commanding nature of him and then the delicious breeding kink that was in there too….. HOLY SMOKES everyone. Haley delivered this spectacular story and the absolute perfect spice between them.

Okay so back to the storyline itself. I could literally talk about the chemistry and spice between these two all day, it was just that good. Reagan has a lot of depth in this story as the FMC. She is warring within herself about her life between her career and what she so desperately wants her life to be as a mother, a partner and a family. She is struggling with all of it and her feelings and desires for Eli. Eli on the other hand isn’t doing a whole lot to show her that he could be that person. He has these sweet and thoughtful moments with her but then builds his wall right back and shuts her down and out. Rea is definitely more of an anxious FMC so she doesn’t take any of that indecision well at all.

While Eli is a swoony delicious daddy when he wants to be, he also has a lot of issues too that come out here and there in the story. There is a heavy emphasis for him on being independent and not wanting someone who is needy or too attached but then he also has to contend with that overwhelming feeling of being a failure too so when he does get something good, he sabotages it hardcore. I honestly don’t know if I like him as a MMC outside the bedroom scenes. Maybe I just wanted them together and in a good space earlier in the book so I could love them as a couple for a little longer.

I definitely didn’t expect that third act drama though. I thought for sure it would center around the forbidden part of their relationship but was pleasantly surprised Haley went a different direction and kept me on my toes. I always want more groveling so I definitely wished there was more of that lol but I loved how they came back together and their epilogue wrapped it up nicely. Now we just need a forbidden love story for Lily!

Reagan always was treated as the black sheep until her sister’s ex husband… when her sister suddenly passed away and she returns home while waiting for her next job at a yoga retreat. She gets stuck with her mum her as always put her down but when her brother in law offers for her to move in and be her nieces full time nanny until she hears back about her new job she doesn’t expect to have all her dreams come true with the one man she should never want.

Please check triggers but this book was oh so deliciously Spicey, it does have a third break up act which was a fast resolution.

The h was super annoying to me. This is why don't like young hs. First she wanted to be a mom and a wife so bad, but what she portrayed to the H was the complete opposite, then she tells her friend that she wasn't sure about being with the H bc she wanted to follow her dreams, and she wanted the nomade lifetyle, make your goddamn mind girl.

I thought the conflict with the h's mom was going to be a big thing at the end, and I was disappointed that it got swept under the rug. I was waiting for the confrontation and we just got a 5 years later epiologue whit a brief mention of her... Instead we get the MC's being stupid and incapable of communicating and having a mature conversation about their feelings and expectations for the future 🙄

buckle up, it’s a decent length one…

I enjoyed this story I just also found myself skimming to get to the parts I considered good and avoiding the parts that felt draggy.

The author did a good job of listing possible triggers, at the end of this review you’ll also find tropes and themes I found while reading.

Okay, so, I did enjoy the story, the characters. The plot is character driven.

I do feel like there was a lot of character development, not with topics of alcoholism, grief, mourning, betrayal, etc.
Alcoholism is a normalized deadly diseases that doesn’t only affect the addict themselves. I think the author missed an opportunity of exploring that and normalizing the need for help when dealing with substance abuse.

Instead we get a relationship where a person who isn’t a present character (the dead wife/sister) is vilified to further the other two. And sure , in reality people are crappy and then they die and leave behind unresolved feelings and trauma. In the case of this story, we have a 3yo child who, and maybe I missed it, isn’t in therapy, lost their mom, is grieving and has a parent that doesn’t know what they are doing (we all feel this way) is grieving and drowning their emotions with liquor. Another missed opportunity in my opinion.

Raegan has a tumultuous relationship with her mom, why? I don’t know, it’s never really explained. The woman is just vile, and Raegan is just used to the abuse and used to running off to get away.

There was just so much that could have been done with this story. It’s just a romance but it could have been a romance with more.

I did enjoy the chemistry between Elliot and Rae (though this wasn’t consistent). Their relationship built up was built up to be greater than what it felt to me. The slow-burn delivery was also pretty okay.

Tropes/themes:
Taboo (dead sister’s husband)
Age gap (hero makes mention of having been in college when heroine was barely in kindergarten)
A touch of forced proximity
Pregnancy
Praise kink
Breeding kink
Possessive hero
Mentions of cheating (not hero to heroine or vice versa)
Slow burn
Third act “breakup”

This book was so good!!! Haley did such an amazing job with Elliot and Raegan!!! 🩷🩷🩷

I was extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to ARC read this book. I really appreciate it! All opinions are my own 🙂

Bad decisions is about Elliot and Raegan. Elliot is sadly widowed. He has a beautiful little girl named Emma and is struggling with life since his wife's death. Raegan is a free spirit and travels all over the world and is a yoga instructor. Raegan so happens to be Elliots younger sister in law. Raegan is back home for a little while in between her next work trip, and she has been staying with her mum, whom she can't stand. Her and her mum get into a massive fight, and Elliot offers for Raegan to move in and help out with Emma. Raegan accepts, and this is where Elliot starts to really question his sanity after he starts lusting after his beautiful and much younger sister in law. Little does he know that Raegan has always had a crush on him. As they grow, close lines begin to blur, and real feelings get involved. However, will Raegan want to stick around and find out if Elliot is worth it???

OMG this book had me blushing so hard!!! I love Elliot and Raegan so much! Poor Elliot, he went through so much and tried to do the right thing, but it kind of blew up in his face with Meredith (wife that passed away). It was amazing that he put aside his fears and concerns and was willing to drop everything for Rae. It was amazing to see that Raegan was always or at least tried to be true to herself and was such a beautiful soul, so kind to everyone!

Raegans' relationship with Emma was so cute, and i loved the ending!!! I also enjoyed Lily. She was such a fun addition, and she was so good for Rae. I hope we get to see Lily's story, I think that'll be interesting to read given a certain someone who was mentioned in the book.

Also, the spicy scenes were so spicy!!! As previously mentioned, blushing!!!Elliot's dirty talk was chef's kiss!!! 😊😊😊

💛 dual POV
💛 age gap
💛 forbidden romance
💛 spicy scenes
💛 dirty talking, mmc
💛 possessive mmc
💛 super sweet fmc

‘You Chose me’. This book broke me, then put me back together and then broke me just to put me back together and make me whole in the end. This book follows Reagan and Elliot through loss, and love. Through the ups and downs of grief and resentment but also through love and acceptance. Elliot is a single dad and struggling… HARD. He is having a hard time with the loss of his wife- who wasn’t as perfect as everyone thinks-, adapting as a single part, and juggling a job as the same time. One day- after calling out of work due to his daughters tantrum-he walks into his mother-in-laws diner to find his used-to-be sister-in-law is back in town. Reagan is a free spirit who doesn’t know what she needs. She lost her sister who was almost the perfect child, and who she never quite lived up to in her mothers eyes. Reagan applies to be an instructor for yet another yoga retreat, but her mother believes it is a waste of time and tell her to find a real job, or she can find somewhere else to live. Elliot, feeling like he wants and needs to protect Reagan as much as he can, offers Reagan a place to stay in his house and a job watching his daughter, her niece, what could go wrong? The answer: Nothing and everything. Is it wrong to love your sister’s widowed husband? Is it right to touch your late wife’s sister? Is it okay for two broken souls to come together as one?
I have to praise (wink, wink) the author on not only the amount of spicy she put into this book, but also the even amount of plot, and character development she put in it as well. The age gap and the praise kink was delicious and I loved seeing how the characters were portrayed and grew within the story and epilogue. (If you aren’t an epilogue reader, trust me, this on one you don’t want to miss. It has all the good feels!) #BadDecisions by @haleytylerthewriter

I received and ARC copy of this book. This is my spoiler free review.

Elliot just lost his wife. They have a three year old girl and he is struggling with work and being a single dad. Reagan is Elliot’s sister-in-law. She is a nomad. Doesn’t like staying in one place too long. When she returns after her sister dies she dreads going to work for her mom again but that’s her only option.

When the opportunity arises that she can help take care of her niece and get out of her moms house she jumps on it.

This book was fantastic. I loved seeing these characters together and how they helped each other out after the death of a family member. The tension between these two characters was off the charts.

I loved how Hailey wrote these characters. They had such real emotions, even if they weren’t the best thoughts. They were real. There were also a lot of real issues with different ways people cope.

I absolutely love their story and can’t wait to do a reread. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Overall I have the story 5⭐️ and 3.5 🌶️

Thank you Haley for the ARC.

"I wish you could see yourself through my eyes,"

A tragic life changing event left Elliot barely hanging on as he tried to raise his 3 year old daughter alone. He desperately needs help as he tries to navigate life as a single dad. Especially since Emma isn’t very cooperative (understandably). Reagan, his sister in law, is living with her mom while working at the family diner but she’s suffocating. Reagan makes a change. It’s the perfect storm really. Reagan needs out and Elliot needs a savior. Totally off limits. Just wrong. Or should I say right. Reagan brings so much light and love into their lives. A very slow burn, not expecting that at all coming from Haley, but the wait was more than worth it. I couldn’t get enough of Eli’s mouth. That man knows how to use his words. The epilogue is blissful. Loved this story.

"You're doing amazing, Eli. And whenever you need to hear it, I'm here to say it. I'll never stop reminding you how incredible you are."

“You’re someone to me.”

My most recent reads were slightly disappointing, and I was worried I was falling into a book slump, but then I stumbled upon 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 and couldn’t put it down.

Raegan travels the world as a volunteer yoga instructor, but she has always secretly desired a family. After her sister’s death and constant fighting with her mother, she moves in with Elliott, her sister’s husband, and his daughter, Emma. She helps care for her niece while Elliott works and inadvertently shows them what it means to be a family.

Elliott has been struggling since Meredith’s death and discovery of her affair. His relationship with his wife was always tumultuous, so his adjustment to Raegan’s sweet nature isn’t without challenges. I loved Elliott’s filthy mouth and the way he paired it with all. the. praise. There were moments where he was deliciously swoon worthy, and I was 100% on board with his sudden possessiveness.

Thank you Haley for the eARC of this book.
This is my first time reading a book by this author. I enjoyed it.
We first meet our MMC Elliot who has just lost his wife and been left a single dad to a little girl and we see his struggles juggling work and home life.
Our FMC Rae is a free spirit , yoga instructor who has traveled the world, she’s come home and is struggling with her living arrangements when Elliot asks her to move in and help with his daughter ( her niece )

The tension between the two of them is there from the beginning and let me tell you when it finally comes to a head, Elliot is one dirty talking *daddy* There story has some turmoil and back and forth on why it’s wrong and the fact Rae wants to go on another retreat.
In the book we have forbidden romance, breeding kink, slow burn and a dirty talking MMC.

Above all I definitely enjoyed this book and would read more by the author.

It tell thw story of elliot who lost his wive and become a single dad.
All the emotions elliot feels trough this process is so beautiful well written and described that you can’t help feel for him to recognize his feelings his emotions. Not only how he navigate being a widow but also a single father.
Reagan is young beautiful and the sister of Elliot late wife. She is strong and determined but also fragile and working on her confidence. She is the sweetest kindest person.
Together they will have to make some bad decisions to be and get were they want. But what for some maybe bad is for other there happiness. It’s just take us making a couple of bad ones to reach the right ones.
And let me tell you the spicy in this books omg I discovered i like the praise oeff got all tinkle and stuf. Amazing read highly recommend it. Amazing writing

What to Expect:
• Age-gap
• Nanny
• Single Dad
• Possessive MMC
• Push/Pull Angst
• Brother-in-law/Sister-in-law
• Breeding Kink

From the very start you could feel something simmering just under the surface between Elliot and Reagan from their interaction but it only intensifies when she's accepts the job to be the nanny for his daughter, her niece. I loved everything about their relationship the sexual tension to rival an erupting volcano, the inner wars they fought, the push and pull, the won't they or will they and my absolute favorite when they gave in, rules be damned they just fit together so seamlessly, like putting in that last puzzle piece and the euphoric feeling you're washed in,now you can see the whole picture and finally life makes sense. That's how Elliots and Regan relationship felt to me.
I cannot not talk about about Elliot wife/ex-wife I've never disliked a dead person more than Elliot's wife/ex-wife and that should say alot because the story it told after her death and that woman was dreadful my heart literally hurt for Elillot and things he endured both before and after her death, but in the end he got that all consuming love and happiness he deserved-what they both deserved.

Bad Decisions by Haley Tyler is a sweet story about the unconventional ways and circumstances in which people can fall in love. Personally, I can certainly relate. There were elements of “we shouldn’t do this” (I don’t want to use the T word because I really associate it with other kinds of romances) mixed with praise and some breeding kink. After so many years of reading (even though I am new to Bookstagram, this was my first single dad/nanny story.

Reagan & Elliott: Their story felt like fated mates that took an unintentional detour to find each other. And with him being a widower, who, it turns out, was taken advantage of, it opened up the door for him to try again. Their chemistry was off the charts, and, my goodness, when it got going, it got going. R&E needed each other in different ways. I was excited to experience how their affection developed into true love and a found family.

Pulled the Heart Strings

I was not prepared for a “Bad Decision.” From the first chapter, my heart went out to Elliott as he mourned and struggled with the loss of his wife—the wife whom he had marital challenges with before she died. Elliott faced being a single parent to a three-year-old who was also struggling. Knowing he needed help, he contacted his much younger sister-in-law, Reagan. It was perfect timing for Reagan since she was looking for a way to get out of the scrutiny of her mother’s eye and move on to other things. She accepts Elliott’s offer to step in as a live-in nanny to her niece until she finds another job. They both find themselves drawn to each other romantically, and those scenes are written incredibly hot. Elliott is a d¡rty talker. There’s so much fire between them. And there’s the br33ding sch/m¡nk in this one, too.

Author Haley Tyler certainly pulled the heartstrings of what I thought was “just” a single dad/nanny story. It was much more.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Bad Decisions and boooyyy did it pass my expectations! I will ready ANYTHING Haley writes (literally anything) and she never disappoints. Elliot and Reagan's chemistry was off the charts and I loved that he fell for her by watching her with Emma. The spicy scenes were great (Haley sure knows how to write em') and the story line was equal parts swoony and heartbreaking. Reagan deserved better from her mom and Elliot deserved so much better in the way he found about his ex's affair. This book had me hooked from page one and the ending was everything I needed. Although I really wanted Rae to put the verbal beat down on her mom. I'm glad she set a boundary and that Elliot saw the need there and decided to stick by her need for space. Overall I LOVED this book and can't wait for Haley's next story to come out!

5+ stars!!!

Haley had me SOLD at forbidden romance. And Rae + Eli? They definitely delivered on the FORBIDDEN.

Eli is a recently widowed, single dad who is GOING THROUGH IT. His daughter is young and and doesn't quite understand what's going on, and his late wife? Let's just say that not only was their marriage not everything it appeared to be, but Meredith definitely wasn't the perfect wife she liked people to think she was. Luckily for Eli he has Merediths younger sister, Reagan around (;

Eli + Rae are made for each other. From the very first chapter its like Meredith who???? and all Rae and Eli!! Every time Eli sat next to Reagan or they got a little to close in the kitchen I was rooting for him to MAKE A MOOOOOVE! This book definitely is a slow burner but trust me, when these two finally do act on their chemistry it is EXPLOSIVE. Eli is one hot dad with an even hotter and dirtier mouth!

I loved every second of these two's story and am so happy each of them finally got to live the life they deserved! I cant wait to see what is next from Haley in the Forbidden Series.

Im a hoe for a good forbidden love story. Especially when the couple are so obviously perfect for each other like Elliot and Reagan. Both our main characters have their issues, Rae is running from life afraid she'll never be good enough, Eli is broken hearted after his wife's betrayal and then struggling to cope with his feelings surrounding her death. Slowly the two realise they are what one another needs- Eli is the home Rae needed to feel worthy and Rae proves that Eli is more than enough by putting him and Emma first and choosing them above everything else.
I'm also a hoe for a good side character and you get that in Reagan's best friend Lily.. everyone deserves a friend who will have your back through everything but will also set you straight when needed.

Well done Haley Tyler - this was an unexpectedly hot ride. Loved the taboo plot, teeth grinding tension and burn (BURRRRRNNNN!!). Just wow.

Reagan and Eli. She is his deceased wife's (much younger) sister and Eli is her mourning widower brother-in-law struggling to raise his 4yr old daughter, in the aftermath of his wife's sudden passing. He moves her in with him to help take care of his daughter and let's just say - it's not just her niece that she is taking care of : )

The scene is set for this to be a really good taboo romance. Eli didn't have the best marriage and Reagan has always had a crush on Eli. Where this book REALLY wins, is the spice and the burn. I mean, the angsty longing, the firing jealousy, the forbidden fruit .... it's pretty much leaking through the pages.

It's a quick read. Don't go into this expecting a nice love story (there's aspects of that) - your underwear will self-combust. Be prepared.

Where to start?! Crushin’ on your brother in law after your sister recently died? Should be morally wrong, but in Bad Decisions it’s so so right. Eli is filthy af and just.. damn. He knows all the pretty things to say. Absolutely love him. Poor guy doubts himself so much but once you learn alllll the secrets, you can’t blame him. Enter the one and only Reagan. Yoga instructor extraordinaire. Running from her insane mother, she finds herself in the arms of the ever so tempting Elliott as his nanny to her niece. One drunk night is all it takes to change everything and holy freakin’ steamy! If you like the breeding k!nk, you’re going to swoooooon.

Haley is back with again another excellent read.

The Forbidden Romance series' first novel, Bad Decisions, introduces Elliot and Reagan and explores their love story.

Please read the trigger warnings before continuing as always. There are a few really delicate subjects that could be upsetting.

I actually really enjoyed this book, despite the tropes not being ones I often favour or enjoy. I was immediately captivated by it because it was a quick and engaging read. Throw in Haley’s typical possessive, dirty talking MMC and you have me hooked.

I loved Elliot and Reagan’s story! I can't wait to read the next book in the series and to see what Haley does next.

My girl Haley never fails to help pull me out of a book slump.

I am a sucker for the Forbidden Trope, but my gracious Rae and Eli's story is one for the ages. I was sucked into their story from the get go. My heart ached for Eli throughout the entirety of the story and connected to Rae in ways in which I wish I couldn't.

Bad Decisions was full of some of my favorite things...

Single Dad? Yep, it is there.
Independent FMC with a dream? CHECK
Awesome best friend? Ya'll, she is there.
Age Gap? Yes, absolutely.
Heavy amount of PRAISE? Oh. My. Gosh. Eli is VOCAL.
People discovering their worth? Absolutely.

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

My lord the mouth on this MMC is hot. I’m not just talking about they way he talks to the FMC but even in his POV his thoughts are dirty AF. This book is blistering it’s so hot. The MMC is not in a good place after the death of his wife, struggling to parent his daughter he enlists the help of his sister-in-law who provokes the most feral thoughts in his brain and his body responds in an absolutely animalistic way. Secrets starting coming to light and after one night lines are crossed and these two have no desires to go back. This is an absolutely must read from Haley Tyler!!

Tropes/content: Age gap (15 years), sister-in-law, single dad/nanny, forced proximity, roommates, forbidden, praise kink, breeding kink

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

Months after Eli's wife has died, he's struggling with raising his daughter, Emma, who is reeling from the loss of her mother. When his sister-in-law, Reagan, returns from traveling and needs a place to stay, he offers his home. She takes him up on his offer and steps in as Emma's nanny. Moving in Reagan was a great idea, but not so much when it comes to Eli. He's attracted to her and wants her, but can't help but feel guilty about wanting his dead wife's younger sister.

This was a good time. Eli and Reagan are two people who want love and support, but aren't getting it from the people in their lives. That is until they find it in each other. I loved the bond Emma was able to build with both her dad and aunt/pseudo mom. The spicy scenes were SO good. The mouth on Eli 😮‍💨 The praise and breeding kink in chapter 23 had me on the floor. He praised her, while telling her to give him one more, and telling her he was going to give her all his 💦 and fill her up 🥵🧎🏻‍♀️

I thought the beginning was a little slow. The push and pull was a little annoying after some time. I thought the pacing was better once they got together.

Thank you to Haley Tyler for the early copy!

Months after his wife's death, Eli finds himself at his rope's end trying to juggle his job & caring for his little girl on his own. Who better to help him care for his daughter than his late wife's sister?

Tensions run high as the chemistry between Eli & Rae sparks. They fight the pull for as long as they can, but when they finally give in....BOOM...it is explosive! Eli is king at dirty talk, too 🥵

I loved reading about Eli & Rae's story & seeing them both finally find their happily ever after.

Haley did a fantastic job with this book. Absolutely loved Elliot and Reagan.

Elliot is recently widowed and struggling to find his way. Reagan is Elliot's sister-in-law, and she helps him out with his daughter Emma by being her nanny.
The sexual tension between Eli and Rea can be felt through the entire book. When they both finally give in to their desires... It is absolute 🔥. Eli has such a dirty mouth filled with all the right praises.

Holy dirty smut!! What do you do when you move in with your dirty talking brother in law? What anyone would do you get it in but only after some very high tension and self doubt. Haley did it again she brought another amazing story. After the death of her sister Reagan is back in town and after an argument she moves in with her brother in law Elliot to help with her niece. The story is amazing the dynamic between characters is real and so spicy. Highly recommend this one!!

✨ARC REVIEW✨

Who doesn’t love a good forbidden romance? I know, I know, there are people out there that don’t. I first stumbled across this in TikTok and it’s what got me interested. This sucked me in from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down. I love the chemistry between Reagan and Elliot and I thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth and the burn of it all. I seriously recooked reading this book!

Ooh, I love a forbidden romance, and this one delivered! And an age-gap, single dad, sister-in-law romance, at that.

I enjoyed this! It was an easy read, with Elliot navigating life after his wife's death, and the new dynamic as Reagan moved in to help Elliot with his daughter, Emma. The sparks soon flew between Reagan and Elliot, as much as they both tried to deny it, due to their circumstances.

The ending was sweet. I loved that! And Lily was a good addition to the story. This was spicy, had a little drama and was just fun to read. Enjoyed it!
