Immortal Assassins #2

Forever Midnight

Rate this book
We are two souls torn apart by tragedy and brought back together by fate. Are we doomed to repeat history?

Tru

I’m a one man army intent on saving my family from certain ruin. I’m the only one who knows my sister’s terrible secret, and I intend to keep it that way. It’s just that I may be a little in over my head taking on the city’s worst gang. I’ve been backed into a corner more than once until a mysterious man with few words but a face that could make the stars jealous rescues me. Twice.

The first time I ran, intent on focusing on my mission, even though I couldn’t stop thinking about him. But the second time? Yeah, he got me. We joined forces in more ways than one, our lives slowly becoming entangled.

I feel things with him I never have. Like the eerie sense that I’ve been here before. We’ve been here before. It’s impossible to shake the familiarity, and what’s worse is I know Midnight is hiding something from me.

When the truth finally comes out and the mistakes of the past show themselves, I have to decide what my future looks like. Do I return to the life I’ve always known or embrace a new future, one that is Forever Midnight?

Forever Midnight is book two in the Immortal Assassins series, a contemporary setting, MM romance featuring vampire assassins finding love with their fated mates. Book two contains a detached vampire with a long broken heart, a spoiled mortal with an appetite for vengeance, a very big problem, wait, rogue vampires, always lots of heat, and a love story centuries in the making.

"he growls, and the sensation goes straight to my dick. Interesting kink I’ve developed."
🤭 same, sis.

I'm not a fan of the whole dead lover shit, I hate when they're like, "I'll never love another." He didn't want you. it's been 500 years. Chill.
Also, I wasn't a fan of the reincarnation....felt like Midnight just wanted Beni back 🤷‍♀️

Forever Midnight is the second book in Mia Monroe's Immortal Assassins series. I think it could technically be read as a standalone, but it's probably more enjoyable read in order. Here's what you can expect from Midnight and Tru:

🖤 MM paranormal romance in a contemporary setting
🖤 First person dual point of view
🖤 Guaranteed happily ever after
🖤 Vampire x human
🖤 Fated mates
🖤 A detached vampire with a long broken heart
🖤 A mortal with an appetite for vengeance
🖤 A love story centuries in the making
🖤 Found family
🖤 Low angst relationship

As always, ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings may be incomplete. Please take care of yourself while reading.

Fuck, he’s beautiful when angry. Like a violent thunderstorm wreaking havoc—dangerous, but so stunning you don’t dare pull your eyes away.

In Forever Midnight, we get to know another Orpheus brother a little better! Midnight is usually pretty detached, but when he rescues a mortal towards the end of Eternal Syn, he can't seem to get his mind off him. Unfortunately, he loved a mortal in the past and it didn't go as planned. The world-building was done well in this book, as was the first as we learn more about the vampires and the world as they understand it.

What was interesting in this book was the twist on second-chance romance and reincarnation. I don't want to say too much else about it and spoil the book, but I will say it's one of the more interesting ways I've seen it done when reading paranormal romance. It added an element of familiarity and comfort to the story. My issue with this book is the how the plot feels somewhat rushed and haphazard, and unfortunately that is a theme of the series. I definitely look at this series as more of a fun, low angst time with vampires because of it. As with Eternal Syn, it's not enough to detract me from reading it, and they are quick reads that would make great palate cleansers, particularly as we head into spooky season. We also have insta-love in this case with the fated mates, again, with a twist.

Overall, this is a fun book and a bit of a different vibe from the first one. I love that we continue to see where the vampires come from and how they met Yves. We're definitely building up for his book, which will be the final one in the series. The spice was once again great, and I had a good time reading it!
“You must know, my darling.” Midnight cups my cheek. “I adore you. You are a much-needed light and hope in my long life.” Pulling my hands to his chest, he smiles. “I love you, Tru.”

My Notes:
Love love love. I knew in book 1 that I was going to love Midnight and I was right. His tragic love story pulled at my heart strings and I was so happy his pain was lifted and he was granted his mate. This is my second time reading the series and I don’t know why I felt like Tru didn’t love/feel that pull to Midnight in the beginning the first time around. The second time screams how he wanted Midnight just as bad. This is your sign to go slow and really feel a book, this was much better. The scenes about Benedict were also much more emotional and I enjoyed them more. We waited a while for the intimate moments, but it was worth the build up! I am a smut girl and even I appreciated the pace. So many things were similar with Benedict and Tru, but Midnight loves Tru for Tru and that was clear to me. This book has pumped me up for the rereading of the rest.

I want my very own fated vampire! They’re so romantic, swoony, and protective. All the things that make me melt. And combine that with the magic that happens when they meet up with their mates, it’s all so delicious.

“Let me help you, Tru.”
“I don’t want you to get in trouble over me.”
Amusement flickers over his features. “Tru, my chaton féroce, my entire life is trouble.”

See, swoony, sweet and sizzling. Who can resist the combo of Tru Midnight? Not me, for sure, and not anyone who reads this fantastic book and series. So take a bite and savor the Immortal Assassins.

Another great book about vampire assassins and fated mates. Midnight and Tru were very sweet and I loved how strong their connection was, even though it started out confusing. There’s a little twist in the story involving the connection between Midnight and Tru. It had a good blend of steamy times and action and am looking forward to seeing who’s the next vamp to fall in love.

Midnight & Tru

I loved Syn & Bowie's story but I absolutely adore Midnight & Tru. They piqued my interest in book one and it was so entertaining trying to figure out how their story was connected to Midnight's past. I'm excited to see which of the remaining guys finds their mate next.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Second in this series. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first. Midnight (Leander) uses compulsion on Tru more than a couple of times and I just didn’t enjoy that.

Eternity

This book is good, well at least to me it is good! I will give it a 5/5. It is the second installment in this series. The main characters in this book are Midnight, a vampire assassin and Tru, a human. Try is trying to get some humiliating tapes about his sister from a dangerous gang. He knows the tapes can ruin his sister and hurt his family. So he confronts the leader on his own, and of course his plans do not work out. Midnight just happens to be in the area working on another job and saves Tru’s life. Tru flees the scene out of fear of what would happen next. Midnight is intrigued by Tru but does not know how to find him. Tru tries to get the tapes again and injured. Midnight saves him again and takes him back to the base. Tru starts saying things that are very personal to Midnight and neither man knows the cause. Tru is not out to his parents and Midnight does not want to real that he us a vampire. The two men have some explaining to do while the search for the gang leader to the tapes. Both men will have to work through some burdens in order to work together.

One selfish choice long past made causes two lives to be forever intertwined.
Midnight forever afraid to be in love again after losing his soul mate must come to turns sometimes Fate steps in to make things right.
Tru never felt like he belonged with his family, when things go wrong he must trust these men with his secrets and get a chance of acceptance.
A truly beautiful take on reincarnation and how if something goes wrong the first time around, sometimes fate steps in to fix the error.

2.7 stars - I am not a fan of reincarnation. At least not the way it was a theme in this story. Otherwise I liked this story fine. Nothing special, an easy and superficial read. Just what I wanted, though I really didn't need the reincarnation stuff.

This is the second book in the Immortal Assassins series. It can be read as a standalone but definitely way more enjoyable if the first book is read, where everyone is first introduced. The series is based on a close knitted group of vampires who made their own family, dealing with the gritty underworld and supplying their form of justice. Since all the guys made an appearance in the first and second book, I'm assuming they will also be making appearances in the rest of the books. Hopefully Im right cause all of them are loveable, funny, and have their own unique personality, adding much to the story.
This book focuses on Midnight, and to me it was more emotional than the first book. Midnight suffered a great loss and had closed his heart. But then Tru comes into his life and slowly shows Midnight that he can love again. Tru's backstory caught me by surprise, didn't expect it when he was briefly introduced in the first book. Also, loved the suprise twist that the author added to make Midnight's healing even more special. And Midnight deserved it. He was so sweet to Tru, even knowing Tru had the power to completely destroy him. He fully supported whatever decision Tru made about his life, never pushing or becoming upset, even if it meant opening old wounds. But Tru knowing that Midnight was someone worthy and special, helped him find the courage he needed to finally be himself and find true happiness. He also realized what it meant to be truly accepted for himself when not only Midnight but entire the group embraces him without asking for anything in return or try to use him (like previous friends). Quite the opposite in fact, they more than willingly stepped in to help him with his "problem", adding some action and suspense to the story.
Now I'm anxiously waiting for the next book to see who is the next victim of fate helping them find their soulmate.

OMG. I swear. How I ask you, how is it possible to like the characters, like the general story idea but feel a complete and utter disconnect to the execution. Yes, it was sweet at times, yes, all the ingredients were there but it all felt like you standing over the pot pondering why it looks like chilly, smells like chilly, but is just not quite the chilly you were going for.

There was so much potential. Love lost and found again. Tragedy in the family with the sister and a sinister plot to cut the final ties to gangsters. But it all felt so superficial. I think it might be a tell and not show problem. The author tells me that they love each other but why? Because Midnight helped him? What made Midnight more special and lovable than the others, like Yves fex?

Midnight's expression softens. "He knew then that you had my heart."
"Do I?"
"You must know, my darling."

Must he? Really? What were the signs? Again, the others helped him in almost equal measure. What else made them think I love that guy . Physical attraction and fate. Nothing else. Or has anyone else read something I haven't?

I'm really not sure how to proceed here. As I said before, the characters are all likable, you want them to be happy, the stories all have potential (I could do without Thorn pointing out in every book how much he loves to use drugs but ok), but I don't even read them being intimate (I truly skipped it in the last book and this one too because I just didn't care, it didn't feel important or the final "climax" of them finally coming together). So do I continue just because or count my losses and admit, that Mia Monroe's writing style just doesn't vibe with me?

Midnight has experienced the traumatic loss of the man he thought was his soulmate before. He's closed himself off from looking for the same thing again. But he never really counted on Tru barging into his life the way he did.

All Tru wants is to protect his family, and love a peaceful existence. He's been sheltered from the seedy underbelly of New Onyx most of his life. But there are very few lengths he won't go to in order to protect his own. And getting Midnight on board with the plan seems too good to be true.

There's nothing all that soft about how Tru and Midnight meet. It's really a rather traumatic experience all around. But they somehow end up finding each other through that, and working through it.

Their attraction to each other is instantaneous, and the connection really runs deeper than either of them are fully aware of initially. But that's kind of what brings them together as they slowly learn to trust each other, and lean on each other for support.

And it took some time for Midnight to come to terms with his feelings. To trust himself, his heart, and Tru, enough to fully open himself to what he was feeling, and what he could have with Tru. But once those floodgates opened, there was nothing that would keep them closed.

What's becoming more apparent as this series goes on, even just two books in, is that the seediness and corruption within New Onyx runs real deep, and seems almost endless. But I suppose that's what keeps our coven of vampire assassins employed.

What's also apparent is that fate seems to have some ideas of what's in store for our vampires, and how best to deal with it. And I'm continuously intrigued.

This is a great series. I'm loving the vampires as assassins plot, killing only those who deserve it.
Here we have Midnight, a vampire around five hundred years old who has been living with the pain of his lost love for several hundred years but now finds himself drawn to Tru, the young man the group rescued in the previous book. Tru is still looking to save his family from ruin but a privileged man is very out of place in New Onyx, where you find sex, drugs and death.
Both men are immediately attracted to each other but wary for their own reasons. Try wants to save his family but takes things too far and Midnight steps in to save him again. This gives them time to get to know each other and come up with a plan of action, alongside the rest of the team. I enjoyed the dance they played out for a while and felt the pain the Midnight went/goes through when he shares about his lost love but then also when similarities and weird moments between the two become too alike to ignore. It then becomes a bit supernatural and I liked that addition to the story and how the fated mates aspect works into it.
The plot of saving Tru's family and sister gets a little bit intense as it builds and Tru's growing enjoyment out of dealing with the dark side of New Onyx I think will become a thing as he spends his forever with Midnight. I love the group together and how different all of the original vampires are. Especially Thorn as he's going to get a rude awakening when he meets his mate, and I can't wait for Yves wait to be over for his.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Sweet, lovely, vampirey perfection

I love this series so much! I adore what I like to call violent fluff and this is exactly that. Midnight and Tru are adorable together and so sweet. The whole family is frankly just the cutest mix of characters. Yes with his sweet but reservedness, Eros with his adorable romanticism, Raphael the calm pragmatist, Syn the adorable older brother, Bowie the cutie newbie and (my personal favourite) Thorn the hedonist. They have such distinct voices and personalities and they add so much to each story. Try and Midnight were definitely the stars though with an epic love story that had me swooning. Midnight was such a hurt soul. To have gone through what he did made my heart ache and I was so excited for him that he’d found a person who he could truly trust. That he also was able to properly heal was just a massive cherry on top. Try was such a cute little madman. Sweet and a little naive, but ferocious in his protection of his family and committed to doing whatever it took. He was the perfect person to show Midnight that he could trust again. This series is definitely a favourite; it’s sweet and romantic whilst being bloody and filled with righteous vengeance. Are the MCs a little morally grey? Maybe. But they do genuinely try to do good in the world, even if that good is covered in a fair amount of blood. I can’t wait for who’s book comes next. I want to say Thorn, but I feel like maybe he’ll be one of the last to find his special someone. Whoever it is, I’m super excited for their story!

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I enjoyed this book and it’s definitely my favourite of the Immortal Assassins Series so far. I also thought that it was another good addition to that series. I’m glad that I decided to hold off on reading this series until it was complete as I don’t have to wait for the next book and can read it straight after this one. Pretty much 90% of the time I end up reading them anyways since I’m so impatient. I would’ve loved to get more insight into Midnight’s life as a baby vampire and what made him into the vampire assassin he is today. As we got the prologue where he met Yves and Syn, was turned by Yves and became part of their family. The book then flips straight into the present day. We did get a bit more history about Gideon aka Tru.

Midnight and his brothers are hired assassins who take out the trash. They have a code that they follow, they try and only take out the truely evil, no children and hopefully no innocents. They definitely do revel in their kills though. I thought that Midnight and Tru were great together and their chemistry was off the charts. I’m so glad that Fate and Benedict gave them another chance of making things right since the first time they crossed paths ended in a total disaster. I do wish that after each French saying the English meaning was in brackets beside it as it would’ve made it easier to follow instead of using google each time lol but that’s a very small issue. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the brothers stories as the series continues. It’s Eros’s turn up next. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

I am loving this vampire series by Mia Monroe. Midnight and Tru were so freaking sweet! I loved the whole premise of them being drawn together by a higher force. After all the pain Midnight had been through in his past I was so happy his HEA had arrived in the form of Tru. He was exactly the partner Midnight needed. Feisty, yet loyal. He loved every part of Midnight, even his true self. In return Midnight allowed Tru to actually be himself. Sadly, Tru has spent most of his life playing a part due to his rich and influential family.

Being together is freeing for both of them. Their past experiences have caused both men to hide big pieces of themselves. It's kept them from forming romantic attachments. I loved seeing this slowly change. They both were scared, yet they made themselves vulnerable for the other. All the sweet words Midnight whispers to his mate. The way Tru assures Midnight that there isn't anything about him that he possibly couldn't accept. Even with all the brutal vampire badassery that takes place, their love story was still just so heartwarming.

There are no hints as to which vampire will be next to find their fated. Even though I'm dying for Yves story the most, I kind of hope the next one to fall will be Thorn. He's the hedonist and has profusely protested wanting to find a mate. I can't wait to see the mortal who's going to knock him off his ass!

Sexy vampires, assassins, intrigue, found family, and fated mates. Recipe for a great book. This is book 2 of the Immortal Assassins series.

Midnight was born 1511 in Greece. He followed a man he thought loved him and wanted him to discover he just wanted a toy. Yves saves him and offers him a new life. Fast forward several hundred years and Midnight meets a man, his “one true love.” But, he rejects Midnight not able to accept who he really is. Fate steps in and brings Tru to Midnight.

Tru is a man on a mission. The Malice gang has worked to destroy his sister and Tru will do anything to make things right. Which includes putting himself in harms way. Fortunately, Midnight is in the right place at the right time.

I don’t like to post spoilers in my review so I will just be vague and say there is a supernatural force at work in this story beyond the vampires and witches. This force helps bring Tru and Midnight together in a bizarre and touching way.

Mia has created a world of vampires that are able to exist in the modern world by becoming assassins. These men finding their fated mates after so many centuries is fun to witness. Two in particular will be much anticipated.

I am absolutely loving this series and this was another super fast read for me. It was pretty easy for me to jump back in to this world as well, which is something I can have issues with. The story was low angst, high heat, and had an interesting twist I was not expecting

We got a little glimpse of Midnight (and a super brief one of Tru) in the first book of the series. I really liked getting to know both of them. Midnight’s back story was interesting, although I wanted a little bit more. Tru wasn’t what I was expecting at all, but I ended up really liking him. We got to see Syn and Bowie, plus the rest of the gang again as well. It was kinda cool to see how Bowie was handling his transition and he was a great resource for letting Tru know what to expect

I’m really hoping we get more books in this series. I want all the brothers’ stories! I usually prefer higher angst stories, but the assassin aspect has really helped to keep me interested and invested in these stories so far. Add that to the sweet romance and plenty of spice and you’ve got a winning combination!

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review

Ugh what more could we want? vampires, fate, assassins, and a beautiful story all rolled into one!

Midnight had his true love hundreds of years ago, however he couldn't accept midnight for what he truly was. It is a heartbreak tale and one Midnight struggles with hundreds of years later. Until Tru.

Tru just wants to protect his sister most of all and his family from what could potentially ruin them so he is out to take on a gang on his own, but finds himself in big trouble until the offer of a gorgeous man and his family want to help him. He is so drawn to Midnight, as midnight is with him but the past makes it hard on them.

The way Mia describes soulmates and fate in this book is absolutely outstanding and so different, it is so unbelievably beautiful I was close to tears for what Midnight lost, but how he gained it all back and then some. These two are literally made for each others and Midnight finally gets the man he deserves. I fell in love with them almost immediately this book truly has it all.

Reincarnation trope done right!

4.5 stars. I connected with Midnight and Tru so much more than Syn and Bowie. There was nothing wrong with them, I just liked this book and this couple more. I typically shy away from the reincarnation trope because I feel like the old soul always overshadows the new soul. I guess in most stories with this trope, that's the goal: to have the old soul reunited with their love down the line. But, I'm so happy that's not how this went between Midnight and Tru. Benedict is there, but it's for closure purposes. Midnight gets his closure, but also gets his real true love and mate in Tru. I just thought it was so well done. And the love Midnight has for Tru is so sweet and romantic.

As usual, this is a well-written book. The only major error I caught was the year on Benedict's letter to Midnight. Also, I'm still enjoying that this is a darker romance series from the last one Mia did, which I like, but also helps differentiate the two and keeps them from being repetitive. Looking forward to continuing this series.

This was one big love fest and I was here for it. Midnight was absolutely soulful. He had such depth of emotion and was so caught up in his past that I really worried it was going to affect his budding relationship with Tru.

Tru had been trying for so long to be the savior of his family. He wants to do the best for them and just really needs help. Meeting Midnight turns out to be the best thing that ever happens to him. I adored these two together. They fit perfectly in every way. I enjoyed the closure Midnight got with his past, but it was a little eyebrow raising to see how it happens. Still, this is a book about the supernatural, so we can make an exception for some otherworldly interference.

I absolutely cannot wait for Thorn’s book. I have a feeling he’s going to fall hardest of them all. Forever Midnight was a pleasure to read and I quite enjoyed falling in love with Midnight and Tru.

4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

Once again I'll ask 'Could you ask for anything more than a sexy, possessive vampire assassin as a main character?' and after reading Forever Midnight and getting to know Midnight, I can definitely say 'NO'. Maybe being an assassin isn't morally great, but they only go after the bad guys, so that makes these assassins good.

I really enjoyed Eternal Syn (book 1) but I loved Forever Midnight even more. Tru and Midnight were perfect together and fate had more than a hand in putting them in each other's path. Tru needs Midnight and his family of assassins to help him deal with the scum who are threatening his sister and his family after he realises he can't do it alone, and Midnight is only too pleased to be of assistance.

Midnight had a heartbreak in his past that he has carried with him for centuries and struggles with his feelings towards Tru because of it. Tru has hidden who he truly is from his family, but meeting Midnight is making him reevaluate opening up to his family.

A violent but sweet and sexy romance.

I enjoyed getting to know the other members of the coven a little more and am really looking forward to more in this series.

Conscientious bloodlust by sexy, swoony, protective vampires. My newest kink! Throw in fated mates and I’m not putting the book down.

I love the soul-deep bond that these two have and can’t deny, even if they don’t understand what is happening. These two coming together is magical and oh-so-satisfying to the heart.

“Midnight's eyes bore into me, as if he can see straight into my soul, but instead of unnerving me, I feel seen. Heard.”

Together Tru and Midnight, along with the rest of the assassin family work to clean up the streets and protect Tru’s family. Not only do we get to go along for the ride as they sort out what’s what, but we also get to meet some surprise characters that hopefully we’ll see more of.

Forever Midnight is the second book in Mia Monroe’s Immortal Assassins series. This story has a slight overlap with Eternal Syn, as the event where Tru and Midnight first meet takes place at the end of that book. The group of vampires at the center of the series also are part of each other’s stories. That said, I think this book gives you the background you need to jump in here if desired. Like the first book, this story pairs a protective vampire with a human who is strong and confident, but also in need of help. There is a good balance here between Tru needing Midnight and accepting his help, but Midnight also respecting Tru’s independence and being there to support Tru, but not to smother him.

Forever Midnight is a deliciously good story. It has vamprires, action, heroics, and loads of steamy fun. It's a low angst paranormal romance story. I recommend reading book 1 first.

Midnight had a hard time in his early years. He was saved by Yves and joined their made family. After many years alone he finds himself hung up on the man he saved in book 1, Immortal Syn. He can't get him put of his head. He's not sure why he feels so drawn to him but he can't shake his obsession.

Tru is trying to save his family from what could be their downfall. The pressure of trying to make up for his sisters mistake is overwhelming and comes with a ton of risk. When he meets Midnight again, things change completely. They're intrinsically connected.

There are several twists and turns in this story. It's an awesome ride that's hard to put down once you pick it up. I highly recommend reading this.

Spend Eternity Together

“Fate knew you would be the one for me. The man who would finally fill all the cracks in my heart. That’s why you were chosen.”

Mia Monroe’s Forever Midnight, book 2 in her Immortal Assassins series, is hauntingly wonderful!

Midnight is a vampire who has been crushed by love centuries before he is drawn to Tru. Tru is a rich son who has not revealed his heart to his family, but in being drawn to the immortal assassin, finds that this relationship may be the catalyst he needs to show his powerful family where his heart lies.

Danger is brewing, and Tru’s safety becomes Midnight’s biggest concern, when Tru continues to attempt to save his sister’s reputation and the life his political family enjoys. Drama, fear, passion, mystery, and love all compete for the starring roll in this scrumptious paranormal romance.

I am loving this series so much already! Definitely still a favorite from Mia Monroe. This new angle of fated mates was great to read and I’d even say…refreshing. It wasn’t like any fated mates story I’ve ever read. And I am thoroughly enjoying it. Midnight is what his name suggests-dark, mysterious, secretive, but always looking over. A great parallel. Tru may be a grown up rich kid, but he doesn’t act like a stereotypical one. He’s fiercely protective of his family and isn’t afraid to get down and dirty to do so. They had great chemistry. Oh, I keep forgetting to add, Mia is absolutely killing(pun intended? Maybe lol.) it with her fighting and action scenes. They are engaging, they’re not gross, I can picture the badass movie sequence within them. So so good. Fated mates are my jam and Mia is rocking it with this drama. I’m very excited for the rest of brothers’ stories.
