Witch for hire Roxy isn’t used to feeling lost or being alone, but that’s where she is when she accepts her sister Kelly’s new life is on the other side of the world.
A visit to Kelly for her birthday only makes it worse. Turning to alcohol and magic as ways to fill the emptiness, Roxy awakens with an unhealed vampire bite and no memory of how it happened.
The bite marks her as bait for every bloodsucker she runs into, and she runs into a lot of them while she searches for the one who bit her. Soon, she finds herself on the trail of a dangerous killer.
Only trouble is, a notorious vampire and his nest are on the same trail, and they’d really rather she wasn’t getting in their way. Faced with the prospect of fighting a second enemy to get to the killer, or joining forces, Roxy needs to get over some serious trust issues and ignore how brutally hot her new allies are to get out of this mess intact.
Vampires are the enemy. All she needs to do is remember that …
Vampire Bait is the ninth novel in the Hybrid Shifter world. This suspenseful and steamy reverse harem romance can be read as a standalone, however, you may get more out of it if you’ve read other books in the series. Roxy was first introduced in Hybrid Rejected , and also appeared in Runaway Mate and Necromancer Bitten .
Roxy has always taken care of the people she loves. A hybrid witch who is Fierce, Protective, Sassy and Fearless; Roxy has been feeling out of sorts after both her brother and sister find their mates. Roxy is slowing accepting the realization that her sister is mated to 3 vampires because she is as always taught that they were the enemy.
Feeling unsure about what happens next Roxy is trying to figure out her next move, which would have been possible had she not gotten bitten by a demon vampire marking her as vampire Bait.
Now she's in a race to find the vampire and get her revenge. A feet that proves to be easier said than done because she meets 3 S3xy vampires who profess to be her Fated Mate. Phantom, Wrath and Venom are Knights of the Order who are on a mission to find the demon vampire before he can open the gates of hell.
This book was a classic case of not judging a book by its cover. Roxy is automatically distrustful of vampires but she understands the only way to find the vampire who marked her as bait is to work alongside the 3 vampires who claim to be her mates.
Will Roxy be able to put aside her distrust and preconceived notion about vampires or will she continue to seek out dead ends in a quest to find a monster who doesn't want to be found?
Vampire Bait is a stand-alone novel by Romy Lockhart with ties to previous books written by her. If you love a good steamy novel with witches and vampires then this is the book to grab! Roxy is struggling with the fact that her family is getting bigger, and also not having a strong need for her right now. Her sister has found her mates with vampires. This doesn't exactly sit well with Roxy, but she accepts it because her sister is happy. Roxy now intends to look out for herself and decide where her future is going to take her. Too bad for her because we all know an attack by a demonic vampire is NOT on the list. When other vampires come to her aid, she's going to have to learn to trust them because let me tell you - the distrust goes both ways! But when you gotta come together to defeat a dark evil? Well, you gotta put those differences aside! This book is a page-turner with delicious steamy scenes and a storyline that will keep you coming back for more! I couldn't get enough of this book. Probably my favorite by this author in awhile. 5 out of 5 stars
After Roxy watched her brother and sister (Dante and Kelly from previous Hybrid Shifters books) find their mates it's time for Roxy to find some of her own in Vampire Bait.
This book had a slightly different feel to it than the previous books in the series. Roxy is a powerful and confident witch with a strong personality. She is a protector and has been protecting her siblings for a very long time. Now that Kelly and Dante have their mates Roxy is feeling unsure. She's given everything to them and now without them, she doesn't know what to do or what she wants. Roxy has a lot of self-discovery to do.
Enter three hot as Hell Scottish vampires who are all a part of the Order (think vampire knights) with codenames. Venom is an alpha. The perfect blend of being a leader and is good with the emotional parts. Phantom is an omega and like most of the omegas in this series he's a little quirky. He has a very unique fashion sense and is totally adorable and truth be told has no business being a vampire but it is what it is. Then there's Wrath or "sexy-beast" as Roxy calls him. The big (all over 😉) sexy warrior is beta who gives off nothing but alpha vibes. He may be a relic of the past but he knows how to make a girl swoon. All three are instantly smitten with Roxy, it's just too adorable.
The apocalypse is nigh. Again. What a great story, a serial killer is running around town, crazy rituals, betrayal, dark magic, and more, all of it makes for a good time. So the Dark Lord is back, dude is really starting to be a problem that I don't think will ever end. The Council of Witches is back as well and they are just as helpful as ever (you read that sarcasm, right?). This book was a nice change of pace with a mfc who just needed to correct her path a little and then there was the magic. Since Roxy is a powerful witch there was more magic, I loved seeing all the cool stuff she could do, it was nice to finally focus on the witches a bit.
Vampire Bait is the ninth book in the Hybrid Shifters series and the series is still going strong. It was awesome, Roxy found not only a home but a purpose as well. Happy endings all around, except for the Dark One but I'm sure he'll be back. As long as Romy keeps writing I'm gonna keep reading I love this world. Romy has plenty of things planned, including a certain little human getting her own book. I'm ready to read.
I'm always looking forward to the new Romy Lockhart. I totally understand that her books and writing style might not be for everyone. She has a very specific way of telling her story and structuring it and you either like or hate that. However, I do love how she always makes sure that both the girls and the guys are fleshed out. So, I was really happy that once more I was given an arc for this book so I could start reading a day early already.
I really love how we already met the heroine of this story in previous books and I loved it even more that now we finally get the time to know her and to see her finding her way to a happy ending. It's not easy, mostly because our heroine doesn't have the kind of personality to believe there are mates waiting for her somewhere, but I love watching her grow and learn and I most of all love watching her learn that it's okay to want and need something for yourself.
Like always the author makes sure there is a good balance between the characters building a connection and overcoming personal challenges and the bigger plot. The beginning of this story was a mix of both, the middle focusses mostly on the relationship, but the finale was all plot. And the finale was also quite spectacular. I really loved how the author once more came up with such a thrilling end for a story.
And while it's amazing to get to know all the new characters, the guys in this story are truly great and I loved how they might have embraced being mates a little easier but still had to change some of their stubborn and old fashioned views to make it work, I also really loved that there were quite a few cameos in this book. I love how the author never forgets that those three characters are a family. When you get one, you automatically get all three.
Wow. This was an amazing paranormal RH novel. The description had me predicting a total different plot line, but this was better than I imagined. She’s a kick butt witch who has always put everyone else first. When she realizes that nobody needs her anymore, the lost feeling really kicks in. After a stupid mistake that led her to ending up in a bad position, she has to find a way to fix things so she’s not spending her life practically hunted down by Vampires. An interesting twist 3/4 of the way into the book that took me by total surprise.
The 3 guys in her harem are perfect. Like totally dreamy. I prepared myself to really hate the drama and unnecessary angst, but one again totally surprised. I loved them. Just the perfect amount between them of overbearing alpha, goofy omega and outdated but perfectly chivalrous beta. Ahhh -insert dreamy drooling face-
Warning: I read this book without reading the other books in series and I was only a tad confused when mentioning past with her siblings but it in no way affected the actual story.
Sorta spoiler?:
Okay so I was super confused about 3/4 of the way through because I was like oh here is the ending just got to wrap a few things up. But it was showing I had 2 hours left of the book so I thought it was maybe a mistake. BUT NOPE! It was a total twist I didn’t even see coming. Way to completely surprise me. I do wish there had been more to do with The Order, it felt like they were really on edge about them but in the end it was just wrapped up with no issues. A tad anticlimactic with how the beginning made them seem all powerful IMO.
Vampire Bait is **technically** the 9th book within the Hybrid Shifter univere. While this book *is* a standalone, like all great interconnected series, it is always best to go back to the beginning, as they make cameos.
This is actually my introduction to this series. It was so easy to follow and read and get sucked into this story. I loooooved Roxy. She is strong, fierce, independent, protective of those she loves, sassy and courageous. I loved her personality all around. This is such a great story, I definitely need to check out the others in this universe.
I loved this story! I hadn’t read any of the others in the Hybrid Shifter world, but I still followed the story perfectly. It works very well as a standalone. I was intrigued enough with the world and by the characters that I’m going to go back and read the others though!
Roxy is a terrific FMC. She’s strong, independent, badass, and a powerful witch, but she’s also got a vulnerable side. She’s feeling a bit lost at the outset of the story. Her life’s purpose has always been to care for others (her siblings), but now they’ve both found their true mates and Roxy isn’t sure what to do with her own life. That insecurity and loneliness leads to her making some questionable decisions with alcohol & magic, and she wakes up to learn that she’d been bitten by a vampire.
Vampire bites are not good for many reasons – but worse in Roxy’s case. She has an unhealed wound, which makes her bait in the water for other vampires – and the only way to get rid of the wound is to kill the one that bit her.
In her quest to stabby-stab the offending vamp, she comes across a nest of powerful vampires that are hunting the same target, and Roxy learns that their mutual enemy is much more powerful and dangerous than she’d anticipated. Now she’s faced with the question – does she work with vampires she doesn’t trust, or attempt to do this on her own?
I loved the MMCs. They are so very different from each other, yet they all work well together. All the personalities and interpersonal relationships in this story are relatable and realistic, despite this story being set in a shifter/magical world. They each have their own desires, insecurities, strengths, weaknesses, and feelings.
I would highly recommend this book, even if you haven’t read the others yet. I’m off to catch up on the rest of them myself!
Vampires with a alpha/omega type hierarchy is something one does not see often combined, complete with a beta to make a pack. This story had me a bit coming and going. The rollercoaster story taking off at a quick pace, ramping up, then crashing down and coasts for a bit, to eventually have a smaller hill and coming full circle. No, not going to tell you what those things are. Non spoiler zone here, but it was a fun read full of steam and character bonding. A quick tale, perfect for anyone who wants something on the lighter side of darkness.
I loved reading about Roxy it was steamy but not overly steamy it was perfection! I loved that she was a Witch for hire the plot was entertaining! I loved how she met her mates. There was amazing character development. I love how she's always looking out for her family and is very protective. I'm so glad she finally found her own happiness with her mates. This was a perfect addition to the Hybrid Shifters world. It was an epic read and I loved every bite of it!
Vampire Bait is the latest book in the Hybrid Shifter series by Romy Lockhart but it can be read as a standalone with no issues.
I loved Roxy - she’s a badass witch who is feeling at loose ends. Now that her siblings have been settled with their mates, she’s not quite sure what to do with herself. Enter her mates to break her out of her funk. Vaughan, Pete and Ward or Venom, Phantom and Wraith are operatives for the Vampire order who are in town trying to stop The Devil’s Right Hand and the apocalypse. The guys are a lot of fun and an interesting mix of older and younger vampires.
There was a lot of action, personal issues, suspense and tension make this book a fun, easy read. Definitely worth taking a chance on if you like a fun easy read with fated mates, insta-lust/love and and some evil, save the world shenanigans.
Romy gives us another fantastic book!! The story of Roxy and her mates is a totally wild ride of emotions and events as they try to keep the Gates of Hell from being opened in a small village in Scotland. Beautifully written with complex characters and plot twists that keep you guessing and turning pages throughout, this standalone book is sure to become a favourite. Don't miss out on this book!!
Another fantastic book in the Hybrid Shifter world. This time we get Roxy's story. I was hooked right from the start. I loved the characters. Roxy is a little lost and trying to find her place after her sibling have found their mates. She ends up having to work with three sexy vampires. I love their growth throughout the story and watching their bond grow as well. I'm looking forward to more from this world.
In Vampire Bait, we get Roxy’s incredibly unique love story. She’s an interesting character, to be sure, with more than a few self sabotaging tendencies. I like the characters, and they had a lot of chemistry. It’s admirable that this author makes her heroes and heroines all so unique across such a big series! I will say, this one took a bit longer to really draw me in—but once I was, it was a great read!
Another great read by Ms. Lockhart! She brings strong characters in Roxy and her fated mates and weaves an action packed story filled with drama, and suspense. She pulled me in and kept me glued to the pages reading their story. It's well written, moves quickly and smoothly with her descriptive scenes and is a terrific read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Roxy meeting her fated Vampire mates! There was lots happening and going wrong as they found their way to each other, including defeating the dark lord and his evil minions. I loved the way the relationships developed and grew throughout the book. A great read!
Oh dang Roxy sure has a wild night when she goes out drinking and ends up in the hands of a killer. Twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat as she teamed up a nest of vampires to hunt down the killer who bit her. Love how all these standalones connect.
This was a good why choose paranormal romance. While there are other books in this world, it can be read as a standalone. I didn't read the other books prior to this one and I was able to follow along just fine. I thought the chemistry between the characters was generally pretty good although one of the characters switched from "fated mates are not a thing" to being caught up in her pretty quickly. I liked the switch of all the males being on the mate train ahead of the female. It felt a bit different than most stories where it's not uncommon for the female to get there first. It was an entertaining read.
I love these books and getting to see Roxy's story unfold with being bitten and hunting a killer to also finding men that she has chemistry with. I love her snark and the way her and her men interact with each other and the eneimies that they face along the way.
This was an amazing Paranormal RH read. I was hooked from the first page. I loved the Characters especially Roxy whos is a Witch and her three to die for men who are her true mates Vaughn, Wade and Pete. The drama in this book was great. Roxy is the sort of Character who puts everyone first before her self, and some how She manages to gets herself into a situation that she is bieng hunted. Great read.
Amazing read. I was hooked from the first page. I loved the depth of the characters, especially Roxy a Witch and sister to the heroine from another Hybrid Shifters book.
Her three men are intriguing. Vaughn, Wade and Pete are great sexy male characters. The action and drama in this book was great. Roxy is the type of FMC who puts everyone before herself. She manages to gets herself into a situation where she is being hunted. Definitely recommend.
I loved Roxy’s story so much that I couldn’t put the book down. She never felt like she belonged anywhere but did everything to take care of her siblings. Little did she know that she would find her true mates and they would be vampires. Her journey wasn’t always easy and she must find it in herself to enjoy what Fate has given to her.
I enjoyed this story. This is my second book by the author. In this story we have fated mates, witches, vampires, a warlock and a necromancer. We also have alpha, Betas and Omegas amongst the different supernatural creatures. Vampires being one of them. There is also a council of witches and an Oder of vampires. This is the 9th novel in the Hybrid Shifter world. I have not read any of the other books. I’m thinking that’s why it felt a little off when reading. I felt like I was missing stuff about the FMC and what happened to her before she got her own story. I still enjoyed the story. Roxy is a witch. The story starts out with Roxy celebrating her sister’s birthday. She feels like she’s lost and doesn’t know what to do with herself. She’s so used to taking care of her brother and sister. They each have their own mates so they don’t need her like they used to. She does her sister a favor and watches her sisters friend at the bar while everyone goes home. Phantom and Wrath are on the hunt for a very bad vampire. Roxy makes a bad decision. She ends up almost getting drained by a vampire. Phantom and Wrath save her. Venom their leader comes up with a plan to stop the vampire. In order to do that they need Roxy’s help. Witches and Vampires don’t get along very well. Will Roxy help Venom and his nest brothers stop and take down the bad vampire? If they don’t succeed then it will be hell on earth literally. Check out Roxy’s story from the Hybrid Shifter World you won’t be disappointed.
We’re back in the world of hybrid shifters, and I am so excited that we get Roxy’s story. Roxy’s story is a bit different from her sibling's stories, she was their protector for so long. Now that they have their mates, what is Roxy to do with herself? They’ve been everything to her for so long that she’s trying to find herself again and figure out what she wants in life.
That’s when we see three yummy vampires enter her life, these guys are a part of the Order. To add to their cool factor they have interesting code names, Venom, Phantom & Wrath, I liked them all but Wrath was my favorite lol. I loved how they all fell for Roxy, it was so cute to read.
This book was a bit different and I liked it a lot, with Roxy being a powerful witch, there’s much more magic in this book. It was amazing to see what she could do and see the book focus on the witches and their magical powers. We also get to see the Dark Lord come back, which was not great, and the Council of Witches graced us with their presence again *eye roll*.
I think this has been my favorite Hybrid Shifters book, I think it was the mix of Roxy finding herself, her guys, and the magic stuff! HEA and a great story! Can’t wait to see what is next!
Reading this story, I can tell that Romy Lockhart has invested so much time into creating this world and characters. I have not read the other books, but this is a standalone and I didn't have any problem jumping right into the story. Roxy is the oldest sister and experiencing kind of an "empty nest" situation. She's always been the protector and taken care of her brother and sister. Now that they've both found their mates, she's at a loss as to what's left for her. She doesn't believe mates for her exist. She's happy for her siblings, but just kinda left wandering aimlessly through her life. She's tough and independent, a admirable FMC. This was not an Instalove, and I love that. Roxy and her mates (Venom, Wrath and Phantom) are instantly attracted to each other, but this is a slow burn. You will fall in love with these characters as they fall in love with each other. I also loved the omega type heirarchy of the vampires, which is something you don't see often. They all had great chemistry, and you can't wait for them to have their HEA. The plot was great - there's magic, steam, angst and a race to save the world. There's also a big twist that I never saw coming, and I was love when an author can surprise me like that!
Roxy is back with her own story, and making quite a name for herself 😉✨. This witchy woman makes a formidable FMC. Although part of a series/world, you don't need to have read the previous books to understand the plot of this book. The author does a great job with the story/characters so newbies (or fans who haven't done a recent re-read) can readily enjoy! I love how the theme of family is also strong throughout these pages. It's touching to see the many forms it shows up. Vampire knights, witches, demons, shifter hybrids and more grace these pages as a battle royale between good/evil commences- and yup you guessed it...Roxy is smack dab in the middle of it all 😉. What to do when three hunky vamps claiming to be your true mates suddenly appear after a night you don't *quite* remember? Get ready for some witty banter, a little intrigue, lots of paranormal craziness, and a dash of romance along the way. These characters keep you engaged throughout the entire story-- not to mention cheering them on a time or two 😉. I absolutely recommend this book...such a fun read overall. Two thumbs up from me.
This is another great standalone installment in a shared universe! Readers are introduced to Roxy in previous installments featuring other harems, but you can easily understand this book without reading previous stories. I’ve been waiting for Roxy to get her own story and finally get her well deserved happily-ever-after.
Roxy is a very likable FMC. She’s strong, powerful, and independent. Feeling out of sorts after her siblings have found their mates, she feels like her future path is unclear. After awakening with a vampire bite and no recollection of how it happened, she must locate the creature to safe herself. She stumbles upon a vampire den and meets her three true mates; Pete, Wade, and Vaughn. This book is a slower burn and lower heat, but it was lovely to see Roxy let her guard down with her mates and build a connection outside of the bedroom. The guys are great and I don’t really have a favorite.
Fast paced, sweet, great story, and wonderful characters makes this book a solid 4-star read!
Roxy is a powerful hybrid witch who has never felt she belonged anywhere particularly. Her siblings are both settled with their mates and she must discover what she needs for herself. That is until she is bitten by a serial killing vampire who has left a rather gruesome wound on her neck. Meeting three local vampires who stop her being the next dead victim may just be the life changing event she needed.
I love reverse harem stories especially when the men are vampires with a secret soft side for their female. Roxy is scared by how intense and sudden this all seems when her mates wish to claim her but strong vampire types are the perfect book boyfriends for clawing back the heroine. This was written in such a fascinating way that I was hanging on every chapter loving the different points of view. Such a satisfying, action packed and emotional book that lit a fire within even more so for this genre.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
