A revolution for women to live confidently in their God-given identity and united in the call to bring goodness to the world, adapted from Born of a Woman, from speaker and pastor of the influential Shoreline City Church.
“In these pages, you will experience the beauty of a friend who says, ‘Royal sister, take a seat. We have been waiting for you!’”—Charlotte Gambill, pastor, author, and global Bible teacher
We know women are meant to bring powerful and lasting goodness into the world because God repeatedly called women to do so: He trusted Mary to give birth to Jesus, Esther to save His people, and Deborah to lead His kingdom. Yet so much of our potential is limited by our own insecurity and fear. It’s time for us to stand confident in our stunning worth as royal daughters, unite in community, and walk in the unshakable hope of Christ.
In a message that’s both vibrant and conversational, Pastor Oneka McClellan reminds us that God has uniquely positioned and gifted women to be a source of life, wisdom, and strength. Through insightful biblical truths and real stories of women showing up in powerful ways, McClellan equips you to
• completely trust your God-given identity • lead with courage and wisdom in any room • fight for the flourishing of others • celebrate the greatness in every woman • see with eyes of hope that God can redeem any story
To every woman who’s ever felt held back, pushed down, or disqualified from stepping fully into her purpose, McClellan’s Born Royal offers hope, encouragement, and empowerment. It also sounds a liberating call for each and every one of us—including you—to walk boldly and precisely as the women God has created us to be.
Oneka McClellan's dynamic personality, creative vision, prophetic gift and compassion for the ‘one’ has propelled countless lives, marriages, teams and churches into their God-given destiny. Oneka is eager to see individuals realize the love, value and purpose found in Christ through the local church. She, alongside her husband Earl, are the Lead Pastors of Shoreline City Church with campuses locally and globally. With a passion for Sisterhood, she has challenged the way women think about themselves and others by pioneering a ‘Value Revolution’ that has now spanned the globe through a variety of creative initiatives. She is also the author of her book, Born of A Woman. Behind the scenes, she can be found loving her three kids – Parker, Grayson and Elle – and cheering on her husband of over twenty years.
This book was empowering, from the forward to the finish. There were so many nuggets I jotted down, to go back and reread. Every woman, needs to read this.
I didn’t think the content was controversial but it seems like it was just a bit too rambling and generic. I haven’t heard her speak but I’m sure Oneka is a powerful communicator. It seemed like she took notes from speaking and put them into a book.

Women are called to embrace their God-given identity and potential. Through vibrant storytelling and biblical insights, this message empowers women to lead with courage, trust their worth, fight for others' flourishing, and see God's redemptive power. It’s a call to step boldly into the purpose God has for every woman.
Pastor Oneka has such an empowering presence in her writing. You immediately know this woman is for you and fully believes what the Bible says about all women. She’s a cheerleader and a champion. If you’re looking for encouragement in your calling or identity, this book will lift you up and offer biblically-based affirmation of your purpose. Some parts felt basic or repetitive, but returning to simple truths isn’t always bad. This would be a fantastic guide for a youth group girls' small group.
I primarily read the ebook but did listen to two chapters from the audiobook. Her tone and enthusiasm reminded me so much of Bianca Olthoff. Both format were great!

It might be the theology nerd who is used to deeper things, but I found this book a sweet message but somewhat surface level and reflective as opposed to deep theology. I love the message that this conveys to women, and I think it is great for younger ladies who need this encouragement. However, there was very little deep Scriptural and theological processing of the topic of being God's royalty. It got off topic by the end, which meant it got repetitive and a little rambly by the last few chapters. I also didn't love some of the comments and assumptions she made about women in general. There were a lot of phrases and such that implied a more traditional/conservative view of women, which left me feeling a little excluded and will give some young ladies the wrong idea. I think for young readers and a general audience, the simple writing style is a great start, but personally, I didn't get a lot from it. However, I am teaching a group of college freshmen from it, and I do think it was a good choice for their season. It definitely will bring up good discussion for what a lot of my girls need!
I’d say this is between a 3.5 and 4 stars for me. For the right audience and the right person, this book could be really impactful and revolutionary. But for me, it was a lot of what I already knew, and told in a writing style that was really in line with a “go get it girl” kind of audience. Which isn’t super my vibe, but I can see it working for the right person. That being said, later on in the book, there were a few things that stood out to me as takeaways. But overall, I personally struggled to get through it even though it was pretty short.
Loved this book! Somewhat biased because the author is the pastor at my church, but it was an incredible life changing book! It spoke to the exact season I am walking though, but I truly think it would be moving to whatever season you are in. I feel more confident, inspired and strong in my faith after reading this. I feel called to lead, serve, be in community and be present in the highs or lows I’m walking through because of this book! Highly, highly recommend!
Born of a woman. Born again royal, in Christ Jesus. That's the essence of this book. All of us were born of the woman who is our earthly mother. Praises for my Godly earthly mothers.🩷🩷🩷 Those who have made the choice are reborn royal, in Christ Jesus. Minister Oneka shares blessed insight on living out that walk of being reborn royal, in Christ Jesus. Beautifully written.🌷
This book is going to be great for the woman in the wilderness or the woman on the mountain top it will encourage you to seek God and keep going in whichever space he has you in. It will speak truth over you and remind you speak truth over other woman. I enjoyed it to the fullest.
Lots of good encouragement! A short prayer ends each chapter to reinforce the message and help put it into action. As women, McClellan, says, we need to build each other up. As women of God, we have a role to play and kingdom work to do as well. For such a time as this.
I will have my daughter read this and recommend it to every woman I know. This book speaks life into your soul no matter your season. All biblical content was contextual and solid. McClellan has a gift for storytelling and encouraging, in addition to spreading the gospel.
This was a fantastic read. I love the themes of sisterhood and stepping into your calling. This book felt like I was talking to a friend. Her retelling of bible stories were humerous while sticking to the main point. There were practical capl to actions that are easily applicable to your life.
Proud to say this is my pastor. She and her husband pastor Shoreline City Church. The encouragement is here to bond women rather than run the race against each other. It's great!
Born royal is a beautifully crafted book daring women of all ages, cultures and backgrounds to be who God has called them to be. This book will inspire you to break the boundaries that surround you and give you the courage to live a purposeful life, walking in the promises of God. Whether that's in your home, in society or in your work place.
"In the middle of your doubt, He is still God"
Having heard Pastor Oneka at a conference, her voice and heart vividly came alive on each page. It was almost as if she was preaching this book to me.
Self help books are a lovely reminder that we need a push in certain areas, that maybe there are things that we need to face. And this one does just that. It will challenge you on all levels and you'll be glad at the result.
I received this book from Netgalley for a honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
