I have a confession. I rarely read these days due to my poor concentration and I also I would not have thought that a book about holistic teeth health would pique my interest. However I found myself with this book in my hand and was pleasantly surprised. Simms writing is tight and never laborious. It reads lightly and takes a path down a difficult road bridging conventional and alternative health approaches, leaving the reader to learn and make their own decisions without judgement. While this book is written specifically for those who are plagued by dental problems, it is interesting and written well enough for anyone with curiosity about approaches to holistic health or dentistry in general to gain some insight into what is happening in the largest doorway to our body our mouth.
I found this book incredibly insightful. Its an excellent summary of how our emotions and mind habits can directly impact our teeth, oral health, and health in general. The writing is very clear, and informative, with lots of practical exercises as well so you can really take control of your own dental health, rather than that helpless feeling we get on a trip to the dentist. I was drawn to this book after several misadventures with the dental industry, and now feel empowered to really take care of my own oral health (with the odd visit to the dentist still!) I think its a must have reference book for any home library, to help further understand how the mind and body are connected. Highly recommended.
This book will be of great interest to anyone who’s drawn to alternative approaches to dental care. It is a significant contribution to the emerging field of alt-oral healing, written by a leading international practitioner. It’s well written and meticulously organized. “Secret Lives of Teeth” is an authoritative, systematic presentation of the theory underpinning metaphysical (spiritual/ emotional/ ancestral) factors contributing to tooth decay and other dental problems. If you're interested in alternative ways to care for your teeth, I highly recommend this book.
Who knew teeth had such fascinating stories to tell? Meliors Simms, that's who! In her book "The Secret Lives of Teeth," she takes us on a journey into the unexplored territories of oral health, where enamel meets emotion and gums greet spirituality.
Simms, the self-proclaimed Holistic Tooth Fairy, has a knack for making the complex simple and the mundane magical. Her book is like a dental detective novel, where each tooth has a unique personality and a tale to tell. The Tooth Archetypes she introduces are as intriguing as they are enlightening, making you wonder if your molars might be more sensitive than you thought!
The book is not just about understanding the emotional influences on oral health, it's also a guide to self-help. It's packed with metaphysical exercises that are like yoga for your teeth, helping to relieve not just the physical symptoms but also the emotional baggage we often carry in our mouths.
Simms' writing style is as refreshing as a minty toothpaste, with a dash of humor that makes the book a joy to read. She takes a topic that could be dry and clinical and infuses it with warmth and wit. You'll find yourself chuckling at her toothy puns and smiling at her insightful observations.
In conclusion, "The Secret Lives of Teeth" is a must-read for anyone who has ever wondered if there's more to oral health than just brushing and flossing. It's a book that will make you look at your teeth in a whole new light. So, the next time you smile in the mirror, remember, your teeth have secrets to tell, and thanks to Meliors Simms, you now have the key to understanding them.
A surprisingly fascinating guidebook to the metaphysical and emotional influences on our teeth and oral health. Meliors - the Holistic Tooth Fairy - shares her own horrific experiences of the agonising pain and trauma of six root canals, despite conscientiously brushing, flossing, and eating healthily. By the time a seventh root canal threatened, she thought there must be a better way, and set out to investigate what might be the root causes, and to address them. What she learnt - and her ongoing curiosity - resulted in her becoming a natural oral health coach, and writing this book. Don't dismiss this as "woo-woo" - Meliors has done thorough research, considered the physiological changes of the mouth at different stages of human development, and drawn from the experiences of her hundreds of clients to develop a unique archetype for each tooth, with names like Inner Critic, Priestess, Guardian, Collaborator and so on. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in improving their oral health, and understanding what influences might be behind chronic or recurring issues. It's empowering and practical, as Meliors encourages the reader to write in a journal, to ponder specific questions depending on the specific tooth that needs attention, to meditate, and become more aware of being in your body. The writing is clear and accessible; it's well laid out and easy to dip into or read right through. The simple illustrations help the reader identify which teeth are being described. I hope this book gives practical help, ideas and insights that lead to better health. Disclosure: I did structural and copy editing work on this book.
I enjoyed reading “The Secret Lives of Teeth: Understanding Emotional Influences on Oral Health" by Meliors Simms who in my opinion is a highly intelligent and exceptionally talented writer who has written a clear, concise, and intriguing book about the connection between teeth and emotions. In my opinion, it is a very unique book giving new insight on dental health in ways many are not aware of. She, in my opinion, is very knowledgeable on the subject and her book provides a concise and somewhat thorough education on this subject in a pleasant manner. She writes directly to the subject and provides excellent and practical information as well as exercises for personal development in Part III of the book that produces real results. She also provides references for further study. This author explains, “… this book is intended to work like a guidebook, rather than a dictionary. Here, you can access the grammar and culture of your teeth and gums, not just reference a new vocabulary. If you really want to enable sustained healing and transform your relationship with your teeth and gums, it’s vital to understand and respond to your mouth’s specific, personal messages about your unique circumstances.” All in all, this is a very interesting and unique book and well worth reading. Very well done! It was my pleasure to receive a copy of this book and that does not in any way affect my opinion of this exceptional and excellent book.
I like the book because there aren't that many of its kind, but I think the author doesn't state things clearly so that you have to book a session with her to get all the information and at least the basics should be covered.
I actually really enjoyed this. I went in unsure on how it would go but I fell in love! So much meaning in things you don't realise. A fun read, might read again!!
