Alright, now it's done. I've read a Barbara Cartland novel. Well, just to see what's that about. I mean how on earth could she possibly write the same stuff for 700+ times. But after reading this very-very easy reading I'm almost not surprised how could she publish 16 novels in addition to this one on the year 1984. Almost. But still, 17 novels in a year. That's like a typewritermachinegun. Quantity above quality, obviously.
So what does it take? You need to have a man and a woman. The woman needs to be probably with no personality, innocent, beautiful, ready and willing, yada-yada. And the man needs to be a manly man, perhaps with a secret, perhaps a bit dangerous. And rich. And then you need to have a lot of socially awkward moments. Ok, got it.
And then you need a mild conflict that would look like an actual plot of a good book, but let's not delve too deep into that, because we don't have too much time for that. We've got to finish another 16 books in the year. It's not like she was trying to write good books, but she just tried to saturate the market with cheap diluted product. Maybe people don't see some good books behind my hundreds of low quality quick-reads.
Oh well. At least that's crossed off from my list now. At least I didn't pay anything for this book. That might have given some publisher a wrong idea, like to waste some more good paper.
For trying to have at least some plot I guess I can even give an additional point five stars, but oh... I cannot do that here in Goodreads. What a shame, what. a. shame.
You can't never ask for too much quality from an author who produces more than ten books a year, decade after decade. Can you? So the only thing you can hope is find a decent plot and spend some quiet hours, without exhausting your brains too much. And, of course, there is a question. What would you do in those hours? Watch TV? Go for a walk? Lose time with grace? It's only for you to answer...
