Friendship and jealousy are the themes in this story of a child's birthday gift that is totally unacceptable to the cat. When Bear arrives, Cat feels nothing but contempt for this unnecessary being. The child already has a friend - Cat. Cat does his best to do away with Bear - he pushes him into the bath water and out the window. But Cat has a conscience and Child has enough love in her heart for both Cat and Bear. A bit wordy for the very young, but for slightly older children, this beautifully and colorfully illustrated story is a sweet lesson in love.
This book reminded me of Toy Story. The cat is Woody and the bear is Buzz. All either want to do is make the little girl happy. This book shows that jealousy is not good. It can be harmful to people you really care about and yourself.
This is a very sweet book. It's a book about a bear that came in a big red box. Cat wasn't so sure about bear but the both found out what friendship was.
