“Summer is over, and this is ending now. This hurt is beautiful. This hurt will change me forever.”
Inspired by summer and romance, Summer Waves is Tajahnay Bullard’s debut poetry book. It explores what it feels like to have had and lost a beautiful love. It navigates honesty, guilt, rareness, and the waves of falling in love during the summer time.
A collection of poetry about finding the right person at the wrong time in the summertime. You can feel the love and pain throughout each poem. They are in chronological order as the author is experiencing this moment in time with a lover. The overarching theme of water being weaved through each poem: drowning, rain, waves etc. Tajahnay reminded me to say what’s on my mind and that goes for anyone: lovers, friends, family. Life is too short to not say what you mean. I particularly loved “Missing” as I felt like so many people could relate to this especially me. How the things that happen to us in this life can change who we are, how we build ourselves back up putting the pieces together again and that our emotions we feel are valid. I lost my father which feels like a lifetime ago but also yesterday and this particular poem resonated with me. I no longer run from my emotions, and it feels so much more freeing to feel everything: the sadness, the happiness, the guilt, the joy etc. I also loved that Tajahnay didn’t want to turn to anger and even thanked this former lover for being present and for loving her during their time together. This was a very quick and easy read as I did it in one sitting since it’s poetry. I know this would hit home for a lot of readers. #goodreadsgiveaway
A beautiful book of poetry. Stories of love and missing that person. This reminded me of Hedwig and the Angry Inch when Hedwig says Love is eternal because it created something that didn't exist before.
