I think I definitely enjoyed this novel better than the first one - definitely less issues than the first one too, which is good.
So the first novel was set over two or three days, and this one picks up immediately where the previous book left off and seems to happen over maybe 36 hours at most? Despite this, the book felt well-paced, and it made me feel like I was on a countdown with the characters, especially because as someone outside th story, we know more of what is coming and what is happening outside the characters each chapter focuses on.
Watching Erika Five begin her life and explore the real world was fun - she's definitely naive, but curious and determined to be better than the previous four Erikas, but her internal thoughts and desires are definitely not what her maker would have wanted, so I do worry she's going to go the same way as the previous models.
Carson and Michael were as good as before, and I love that they're actually competent but not invincible. Their friendship comes across as so genuine, and I enjoy the chapters where we see them taking control of the situation.
I need more and more about deucalion. The bits we've seen so far are so good, and I just want to know him more, because he's obviously seen so much and survived so many things and he's determined to do the right thing and kill Victor - I wanna know more of what originally went down, and what he's been doing in the intervening years.
