I received an Advanced Review Copy of this delightful anthology and I couldn’t be happier about it. It was already on my radar and list to grab!
This collection of short stories is compiled by 8 short stories from different authors, all within the romantasy gender. What surprised me this anthology was the broad sense on inclusivity, fanning different people, magical beings, cultures and styles. From Orishas to Spanish speaking characters; fae, humans, and every little bit in the mythical world; realms unknown and earthly locations; for all sorts of spice level you prefer in your reading. From Camelot, Avalon, Under the Indigo water or “simply” Spain. This anthology took me on 8 different dreams with such a variety of characters that i feel like this is what people say when they tell you a book will take you places and make you well traveled. Immersing in these stories was a pleasure that left me wanting more. And more I’ll get because these authors have more to dive into.

This anthology consists of eight romance fantasy short stories by eight authors with varying range of spice from steaming to scorching. Some of the stories are cozy and some are much darker. Due to the numerous different authors there are a beautiful range of stories included, there are mermaids, fated mates, blood magic, blessed ones, vampires and the list just keeps on going.
As I expected as I read each short story by the time I finished each and every single one they all left me wanting more.
Each story was an absolute joy to read, and even though they are short the incredible world buildings and characters stay with you.
I was gifted an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review.
HEIR OF STORMS AND SHADOWS by Elayna R. Gallea I adored this short story, Elayna’s writing is always so comforting and thoroughly enjoyable. The way that the development of Mareena and Calix’s relationship progresses in a short time didn’t feel rushed. As predicted I do wish that there was more to the story, but there was so much excellent content and the links to the other books in this universe were lovely.
WORDS WOUNDS AND WARRIORS by Ruthie Bowles The best way I could describe this is short, spicy and intriguing. I thought the world building that occurred in such a short space of time was incredible. The concepts of blessed one’s was refreshing and alongside the fated mate trope made this story really enjoyable. The ending left me wanting more but no big shocker there.
SPELLS FOR ETERNAL BLISS by Priscilla Rose A truly adorable story! Simple, uncomplicated and wholesome! All of the characters seem so carefully written with such strong personalities that even though during this story we are only with them for a short time they really leave a longer lasting impression.
THE HIDDEN GOVERNESS by Daniela A. Mera How would I best describe this short story, tantalisingly delicious would perhaps be the best, leaving you craving more. I need to know what happens to Magdalena and Santiago. I also need more information about the magical system and more world building. The writing was smooth and well paced, with a mysterious plot line and a smouldering level of spice.
FROM STEEL AND STONE by Danielle M. Hill I am and always will be an absolute sucker for a story which draws on Arthurian legend, and this story dipped into this in the most delicious of ways! Ariella and Ambrose are insanely well written and I don’t think the story lacked anything at all, it was short and punchy but with a good pace that did not compromised the quality of the story told in the slightest.
A FATE OF FEATHERS AND FAE by Mimi B. Rose Falcon shifters, fae and warrior sisters! This story achieved such a great sense of the main FMC finding herself, developing into someone that is strong and powerful. This story warmed my heart, fated mates is always one of my favourite tropes and Mimi managed to capture the warmth and acceptance of such a bond perfectly within this short story.
BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU BLEED by E. Milee This story combines blood bindings, a mysterious creature that hunts only at night, a poisonous fog and two people that will do anything for each other. I felt that this story was refreshingly original and I enjoyed the dystopian style vibes mixed in with romance fantasy.
LORD OF WEBS AND WHISPERS by Alisyn Fae Talk about packing an absolute punch! This short story was twisty with political intrigue and an extraodinarily strong willed FMC. I felt that the pace of this book was impactful, and that we were provided with an optimum amount of detail and information throughout. There was no substitutions in quality anywhere at all during this story.
All of it was well written, and the stories pulled me in like I was there. It's definitely worth the read! Amazing authors, I can't wait to read what else the authors have written 😀
What a great way to discover new authors! I have been following Daniela A Mera and Elayna R Gallea for a while now, and when I had an opportunity to read this an ARC I jumped at the chance. I have now got 6 more authors to follow and a lot more books that will be added to my TBR in the future
I know I’m biased (I’m the organizer and one of the authors), but I truly think this is an excellent anthology!
There are both M/F and sapphic love stories included, of all different varieties. Some stories are dark and gritty, oozing with tension. Others light and fluffy, full of fun and hope. From medieval to modern, there’s something for everyone.
I’m so proud of these women and I hope everyone else loves it as much as I did.
I received an arc copy of this anthology by author Mimi Rose and my honest review is linked to her story in the book. A fate of feathers and stone is a second-chance fantasy love story setting in a medievalesque world with Moorish Spain vibes, a really refreshing place for a fantasy romance. Nerya and Alonso are the main characters and they fight for the freedom of her country and the chance to live freely their rediscovered love. This story has all I love in fantasy romance: hints of epic, a consistent and exotic second fantasy world, political intrigues, royalty, a spiced love story and a surprising hawk shifter (I read several shifter romances but never before had find a hawk shifter!). I'm crossing fingers to author writes more in this amazing fantasy world. The avian shifters, the somelike Spanish setting and the mystical/religious orders promise so many good stories to us. My congrats to Mimi and other authors for the release of this anthology, always wonderful to know new authors in fantasy romance!
ARC REVIEW This was my first anthology so this was a little different. All of these 8 stores were big in "coming of age" or "coming into ones power" as the form of power discovery. Each story held a different part of my interest. The different settings and different characters, with the different magic systems and the different relationships; all of these takes were so facinating to read. The downside was that the story would end when I would get invested. Invested in what would happen with the MC, or how the main decision would affect the world as a whole. I guess that's a downfall of an anthology I guess. Maybe if they were all connected in more than subject matter/genre that would be less of a let down? But is that still an anthology? Maybe it's just supposed to be an introduction to all of these authors so you get a little taste and the go on your own to find their works and explore them yourself. Im glad I had the opportunity to read this. I wish I got more? More of what? I don't entirely know yet. I also do not think the spice meter in the front was entirely encompassing. Either the stories never got to the levels the meter represented or the meter was not representative of the stories.
If anthologies are your thing or if you want to get into the genre of romantasy then this would be a wonderful book to pick up.
There's two genres that I'm not overly experiences in; romance and anthologies. I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried when applying for an arc of this book. However, I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed.
Each one of these short stories, penned by eight different authors, presents a short and sharp fantastical tale of lovers as they battle external threats and their own feelings for each other. I very much enjoyed getting a quick peek into all the different worlds introduced. One of my favourites was "The Hidden Governess" by Daniela A. Mera. I'm always a good sucker for one of her stories.
Overall, I rate this book 4/5 stars. While each anthology was nice, they varied in quality; whether that be the language used or the character depth.
Would definitely recommend for those looking to try out the fantasy or romance genre.
Bound in magic is a romantasy anthology. It consists of 8 short stories that were all very fast-paced and so enjoyable to read. You have stories about fae, vampires, mermaids, and more. You get sapphic romance, fated mates, forbidden romance, and chosen one tropes. Each story started with the spice level and content warnings, which was really nice.
I love anthologies because you get a little snippet into an authors story, and I feel like it's just enough for me to get an idea of their writing style. These stories all kept my attention and were all so different. There's a little something for everyone!
Authors: Elayna R. Gallea Ruthie Bowles Priscilla Rose Daniela A. Mera Danielle M. Hill Mimi B. Rose E. Milee Alisyn Fae
these eight stories range from cozy and sweet to deeply dark following both queer and m/f couples. i enjoyed how different all of the stories were and it was such a fun way for me to discover new authors to read and explore! some of the stories are connected to already existing universes so this could be a new way to continue an existing world or find a new series to dive into. there is definitely a story for everyone so make sure you pick this up if you’re interested !
thank you so much to the authors for gifting me a copy :)
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I thought this was a really good anthology ( to be fair, it was my first). I loved how there was a good variety of stories and different spice levels. Definitely one to recommend
