Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian author, best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908.
Montgomery was born at Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Nov. 30, 1874. She came to live at Leaskdale, north of Uxbridge Ontario, after her wedding with Rev. Ewen Macdonald on July 11, 1911. She had three children and wrote close to a dozen books while she was living in the Leaskdale Manse before the family moved to Norval, Ontario in 1926. She died in Toronto April 24, 1942 and was buried at Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
Making me nostalgic to something I wasn't even part of.
If you love the series, you'll love the book and the other way around.
But. I liked the series even more :3 This is for a couple of reasons.
First of, the series just are more "woke". I was so disappointed to not read anything about Aunt Josephine and her deceased lady friend (and they were roommates). Nor the fancy party Anne goes to at her place. Which brings me to point two. This first book tells Anne's story over almost 5 years, and the latter are very rushed. Sometimes a year was told in only a couple pages, skipping all the details and events happening. And that's just what I love so much about the series. We see a lot of Anne growing up, playing with her friends, meeting new people,...but we also follow new storylines like the one of Gilbert Blythe, his home situation and life on the ship, him becoming more close with Anne,...or the two lads who come live/help at Green Gables. None of this is in this book, even Jerry is hardly mentioned! [Maybe this will happen later on in a different timeline in the other books. If that is the case I will adjust it here]. We go from Anne arriving at Avonlea, to Anne going to Queens to study, to Anne graduating. Even the series didn't reach this point xp (Rip to one of the best series ever).
And something happend here that wasn't in the series :') but I will leave that spoiler out.
BESIDES ALL THIS: Love this book. Love Anne Shirley. Love all the wonderful quotes. Love the setting, the writing, the feels. Love Anne's friends and the precious friendships she carries. 🩷
Whimsical and delightful! The writing style takes some getting used to at the beginning but soon you are so engrossed in the story that you can’t help but continue learning more about Anne, her scrumptious adventures and the found family she loves! We follow her since she is pre teen to about 16 years old and you get to see her bringing life and imagination to all that she goes through! Tip: Prepare some tissues too! Highly recommended!
