Connie Willis gives us the melancholy fantasy of Elizabeth, caught in a loveless marriage, finding that the tiniest events can lead to major ramifications as she tries to puzzle out her life choices in "Chance". Richard Paul Russo tells the story of a fixer-for-hire who gets shafted by the CIA "For A Place In The Sky" on either Lunar Base or an L5 colony as Earth goes to hell. Which brings us to the novella "Collision" by James Tiptree Jr. (Alice Sheldon), wherein a human riftrunner exploration
vehicle encounters the Ziello, a kangaroo-based species who mistake the Federation ship's crew for rogue humans known as Black Worlders. The story revolves around the knife-edge that balances peace and full-scale galactic war should any more misunderstandings occur. Solid.
