I think a middle grade child would like this story, and horse loving children will enjoy it. I loved it as a child and re-reading it, I can see why. It was an enjoyable read. There are some things in the story that I would’ve liked to have seen written a little differently… some of it didn’t seem to be written very realistically. Especially some of the more spiritual scenes. I would’ve liked to have seen it written to play out more naturally and to have more character development. But this is a book for a younger audience, so I do have to look at it from that angle.
