The Seer #5

Fatal Charm

Rate this book
In this vivid fifth volume of The Seer series, Sabine Rose is reunited with her ill grandmother Nona and her friends at Sheridan Valley. But the excitement of curing Nona-and discovering love with someone new-doesn't outweigh the burden of her father's dark secret, a daughter no one but Sabine knows about. Riddled with curiosity, Sabine uses astral projection to spy on her half sister Jade. And then one night-while out of body-she witnesses a gruesome murder! The victim appears to be Jade's mother, but the next day reveals she is very much alive. Was it all a terrible nightmare?

A puzzling psychic message, feelings for two different guys, building resentment towards her father and Jade-it's almost too much to bear. And when the killer from her nightmare turns out to be real, Sabine finds she must open her heart to the person she trusts the least.

I started writing at 8 years old and when I speak to kids at schools or libraries I show them the stories I wrote as a child. I loved mystery series like Judy Bolton and Nancy Drew, and my DREAM was to write a series of my own. This happened when My Sister the Ghost was published by Avon books in 1994.

Since then I’ve been fortunate to write other series like The Seer, Dead Girl trilogy, Strange Encounters, Regeneration and Curious Cat Spy Club. I recently added a mini mystery to the Curious Cat Spy Club series titled Dog Rescue Time Warp which has a surprise ending.

I love hearing from fans and always write back. And I’ll send a spy activity packet to anyone that asks. Email link at www.LindaJoySingleton.com

This series just keeps getting better and better. This is one of my favourites in the series, because I feel Sabine got more confident. I feel she really grew as an individual and with her gift. The ending made me very happy and I cannot wait to see how the final book in the series will entail.

This novel had everything. It was so captivating, because of the mystery, the actions and the romance. I loved this and I would totally recommend it to all witch fans. It was also an easy read.

I don't like this author's writing style, and all the "action" scenes, I feel like her characters just get lucky. Their is no sense of urgency.
But for some reason I keep reading these books, maybe it's because they're dirt cheap and an easy read but I don't plan on reading any of her other series.

The Seer series continues to get better as it goes along. In this installment, Sabine moves back in with Nona, whose illness continues to deteriorate, and returns to her old "new" school, friends, and boyfriend. But she's also gained a lot more confidence and peace about who she is. She continues struggling with her attraction and connection to Dominic, while feeling that she should be loyal to Josh. So she agrees to help as a mentor on a horseback riding camp for underprivileged kids that Josh is organizing. However, when the last of the silver charms that will lead to the remedy book with a cure for Nona's illness is found, Sabine and Dominic think they've also located where the book may be and go searching for, and find, it. Stuck in Dominic's truck in the snow on their way back, Sabine makes the decision that while Josh is a great guy who she admires and respects, the guy she loves (and is hot for) is Dominic. But how to tell Josh? And will they be able to make the remedy for Nona and will it work?

Sabine is also struggling with the huge shock from the end of the last book, where she discovers she has a half-sister, Jade. She's resentful of the new relative and even angrier when Jade shows up at Nona's for Thanksgiving and then convinces Josh to bring her along on the horseback trip, along with Sabine and Dominic, and Sabine's nemesis but Josh's best friend, Evan. And then a killer shows up in Jade's tent on the trip and Sabine saves her life, and they start to bond a little. Sabine still hasn't broken up with Josh, but that takes care of itself when he interrupts a seance Sabine, Nona, Dominic, and others are conducting so Jade can speak to her dead stepfather, who she loved.

I'll be honest that a big part of what I liked about this book was that Sabine and Dominic finally get together. But I also liked how Sabine was maturing, becoming more comfortable with who she was, with using her gift (even though she still didn't tell best friend Penny-Love about it), and with the variety of people with whom she had become friends.

The fifth book in the Seers series, Fatal Charm earned 3 1/2 stars from me. Although I enjoy the book, I was a little put off by the constant whining and indecision of the main character, Sabine. Additional, her guide Opal's criptic messages began getting on my nerves as well. In this installment Sabine discovers her father has a daughter a year older than her by another woman. This girl, Jade looks exactly like Sabine but has red hair. To make matters worse, he father has sworn her to secrecy. However, Sabine enlists his aid in returning her to her grandmother. Sabine finds her relationship with Josh has changed and he is keeping secrets. She and Dominic find the final charm and the missing potion book but cannot translate it. They also discover their feelings for each other. Just when life is starting to settle down, Jade comes to the farm for a visit. This is when the trouble really begins. Although the plot was interesting, I found this installment tended to get bogged down in minutia: Dominic or Josh?/ Josh or Dominic? I found myself skipping ahead at times because I became tired of Sabine's lack of decision. I thought that this was the end of the series since there has not been a new book since this one was published in 2007. However, I just discovered that there will be another book coming out at the end of the year. I am glad because the ending to this was lacking in an adequate resolution for me.

Original review can be read at Izy's book dream - Seer series

I didn't see the cliffhanger of Sword Play coming! This came as a total surprise. As I mentioned in earlier reviews of this series, I thought Sabine has a really bad way of dealing with the whole Jade situation. Again, she sounds like a spoiled child who just lost her favorite status. I can understand the shock of finding this out the way she did, but a little empathy goes a long way. Sabine is 16, not 12, she should have been able to understand, especially considering her gifts and her dad's explanations. I am still not sure I understand Jade showing up a Nona's house. I understand that she had to hide, but why with Sabine, who doesn't know her? and why all the lies? Something doesn't add up.

I was really happy to see Sabine making a decision about her love life and sticking up to it. I also liked the fact that this decision led to her self acceptance of her gift. She finally doesn't feel ashamed of it anymore. I loved Dominic's reaction to the campout. How wise was it to volunteer like that to be a mentor! Good way to make sure Sabine hangs on to her word and tells Josh about her decision, which she obviously does too late, but whatever, at least she did and stayed true to herself through it.

I still wish Opal would get more appreciation and respect, but things have gotten better between them. BTW, whatever happened to Sabine stealing the remedy book to Niles? I hope she will hold up her part of the promise and return it!

Now about Josh. I think this was meant to be a cliffhanger. If that's the case, it didn't work. I really saw it coming at least 2 books ago. I knew Josh was hiding something, so did Dominic. I also expected Grey and the vandal to be linked. I have a hard time imagining how this is going to turn out it the next book, but I am curious to know just how far Josh will get pulled into.

This book was a random choice for practice mi English reading and made me suffers each page.

It’s a girly story about a girl with psychic powers and this is the fifth book of the “The Seer Series” and I realize it when I read the half of the book and not because I´ve been lost but because I want to know about the author and finally I got the surprise. You don’t need to read the previous books, the story is boring, without surprises, predictable and maddening.

I Think I hate Sabine, the main character, she is a rebel teenager and most of all I hate how she plays with two guys at the same time and specially because one of them it’s such a good boy, bitch!!!!! Sorry she makes me crazy.

For Myself, best luck for the next book.

I should start by saying this is the first book in series I have read - I started it prior to knowing it was series. I was able to jump into the book and plot was easy to follow. Characters are believable and well developed. Worth the read

This book once again feels like a side quest. Nona is still sick and getting worse, but all the focus is on relationship drama and family drama. It was a fun story, but overall I feel like it was missing the heart of the story that I care about.

I really, really liked it, although I just have to say that I don't particularly appreciate these twist in ya series where the heroine realizes she likes someone else and starts basically dating them before breaking up with her current boyfriend. Other than that, I have no complaints.

In the fifth book of The Seer series, Fatal Charm , Sabine has returned home to Nona, her friends, her boyfriend Josh, and of course, to Dominic. Sabine has a lot going on in this book. She is conflicted with her feelings for Dominic, worried about hurting Josh, dealing with the new details of having a half-sister and her father having a whole other family, the down spiral of her grandmother’s health and finding the last charm that will cure her grandmother. Seems like a lot to be happening in such a short read. But it all comes together nicely.
In returning home, Sabine comes to the realization that her grandmother has taken a turn for the worse. Nona has been fooling people into thinking she’s OK by keeping notes in her pocket to help her remember the important stuff. Her boyfriend Josh claims he’s happy that Sabine is back, but his actions say otherwise. He’s become even more secretive, especially when Sabine notices a tattoo on his arm and he refuses to tell her anything about it. She doesn’t push it since she is feeling guilty about her non-girlfriend like thoughts of Dominic. Speaking of Dominic, he has left town on the hunt for the last charm, which he succeeds in finding. Now that all the charms have been found, he and Sabine leave town to Arizona, to solve the puzzle the four charms hold to locate the missing book of remedies. On this trip is where Sabine finally accepts she has feelings for Dominic that are much stronger than the ones she holds for Josh. Also on this trip Sabine uses her new talent of astral travel to spy on her half-sister Jade, but by doing so Sabine witnesses a murder.
Jade surprises Sabine by showing up on Thanksgiving unannounced and implies that she and Sabine are cousins and then goes on to tell more lies. Sabine is furious, especially when everyone takes a liking to Jade and her grandmother invites her to stay a few days. When the girls are alone, that is when the claws come out. Jade refuses to tell Sabine why she has shown up and what she wants. Sabine also finds it odd that Jade doesn’t seem upset about the murder that took place in her home.
The story has gotten much more complicated and a little messy. But like I said before, it comes together nicely. I am looking forward to how this all ends.

Fatal Charm
Linda Joy Singleton
Fiction
372 pages

Fatal Charm is the fifth and the final book in the series The Seer. This is a fiction book about a girl named Sabine and she has magical powers. She can talk to ghosts and see the future. In this book, he grandmother Nona is very ill. Sabine will do anything to heal her and she needs this potion to save her. Her great grandmother, Agnes left a remedy book with all the treatments. But Sabine doesn't know where it is and Agnes only left clues and riddles. Sabine has to go on an adventure with Dominic, a guy who Nona asked to help her around the house. Dominic understands about Sabine and Nona and he can communicate with animals. Dominic will do anything to protect them so he goes on the journey to find the lost remedy book. Even though they are going on this journey doesn't mean they will succeed. They do not know anywhere to start, but if they don't get the book in time Nona will fall into a coma for the rest of her life. Will they save her?

This was a very good book, I loved it. I would give this book 5 stars. I like the ending of the book also. Linda didn't leave any cliffhangers left. Which I like. Sabine and Dominic had found the remedy at last. They have been looking for the 4 charms that connected a clue to find it for almost the whole series. My favorite character in this book is probably Dominic. I liked him the most because he chose to help Sabine find the cure for Nona. If it wasn't for him, Nona would have died. I also find him very protected. Whenever Sabine got in trouble he was there to help. Whenever Nona needed help with anything, or if she got lost and Sabine couldn't get to her, he was there. Also in the book, Sabines mom wanted Sabine to move back with her and she had no choose but to. While Sabine was gone, Dominic helped Nona survive without Sabine and also helped find the 4 mystery charms without Sabine. Well you should really read this series because I loved it!

I'm giving this book 3.5 stars.

I have been reading this series on and off for a few years now and the one thing I love about Linda's writing is that it is easy to read and fast paced. Fatal Charm is the 5th book in this 'Seer Series' and although I did enjoy it a great deal I have come to realize petty annoyances.

In this book Sabine is in a "love triangle" and she talks about how cheating isn't right and she could never do it to the one she loved. She's 16 and isn't "in love" with her boyfriend, so I'm not sure what is wrong with her. Also, yes cheating is bad and I don't condone it. Sabine also talks about her future with her boyfriend and kids and how she should be able to be happy with him. She isn't tied to this boy so again why the future worry over a boy she's only been with for a few months. Basically anything to do with the love triangle drama irritated me. The other annoyance was the repetitious reiterating of plot points. If you can't keep up with the story when the facts were just given 5 pages ago then you need to practice on your reading comprehension.

With the cons out of the way lets talk about the cool stuff.

Sabine's story takes place about a week after book 4. She learns of a new family member and is taken a jealous interest in this individual. With that, the book continues with the base story of Nona (Sabine's grandma), still being ill, and Sabine and Dominick still hunting for the cure. There is a gathering of sorts at the beginning of the story and nothing happens with it until the very end so I liked that bit of foreshadowing. I think it will be a big threat in the final book.

Besides, my little irritations the book was great. I started to hyperventilate toward the end and like all of the books in this series it wrapped up nicely at the end. I look forward to reading the finale.

Fatal Charm follows Sabine in a quest to find out the truth about a secret her father is keeping.

I love this whole series, I'd read them over and over again. The one problem about Fatal Charm that I think is worth mentioning is the ending with Josh. Through the whole series, he nice, calm, levelheaded, and understanding. And then BAM! He

Other than that, it was a great series. There is a sixth book which I haven't read yet. The ending to this one made it seem it was the last in the series, but no. There's another. Gonna go read that one now.

Aside from the Dominic scenes - honestly not great. I know I have to be really forgiving as this series came out almost 2 decades ago but still...

Way too much backwards and forwards with plot and character development. Sabine frustrating me. The random twists that felt jarring. The whole point of the series circulated on rounding up the charms to find the remedy to cure Nona. And when that happens it's the most anticlimactic scene ever. All that suspense... for nada. To only be overtaken by a side character randomly thrown in at the end of the series.

Regardless. These books are fast reads, good fun and enjoyable for the most part. The love triangle would probably drive you insane in Fatal Charm.

Although this is book 5 of 6, I feel as though all ends are neatly tied up at the end of this story. Sabine finally learns to trust herself and her talent.

Again Singleton provides a fast and furious ride to the end with action flowing quickly.

The one thing that bothers me, as it does with most series, is the constant reminder of connections to previous parts of other books. For the most part people are reading a series in order, meaning that they pick up on character details and don't need to have it repeated throughout the next 5 or so books. I seriously got tired of hearing how "great" Josh was and all about his volunteering and such. We get it.

I thought the book was very interesting. The main character Sabine had a vision about her half sister Jade being at her house and this killer killed her mother.Sabine thought that really happened and it did. Sabine liked this boy but she already had a boyfriend. I was always wondering on witch boy she would choose or how she would breakup with her boyfriend. At the end of the book her boyfriend breaks up with her and she was happy because she liked the other boy better. I liked the part of the book when Sabine and her guy friend and a lot of her friends and her boy friend went to this camp out in the mountains. I thought this book was a fun book to read and I liked reading it.

This one is again so good... I just loved this series. Did I mention I love happy endings... I don't think this is a spoiler at all...but I'll mark it as such anyway... As before this book moves quite fast without missing details to build up the characters more. And I absolutely love the main character of this series (much unlike the Evermore series I also just read the #2 and 3 of but for those please see my review). I just marked The Seer Series #6 to read...Recommended!

This first part of this book had me frustrated with Sabine's continual desire to "fit in" and inability to realize her true feelings, but finally she realized that it's better to be herself than to "fit in". It took way too long (5 books too long), but I'm glad it finally happened.

As with the other books in the series, it's not particularly well written, but it kept my interest and was a fun, quick read.

I thought this was a great book. I wasn't too sure about Jade until towards to end and then I was able to understand her and where she was coming from. She was a great addition. So many big changes have happened in this book and I can't wait to see what else is next. I have a feeling that the vandal from the treats shop was who it turned out to be! I am anxious to see where the relationship changes go from here!

I was disappointed with this book because of the ending. The other 3 books I've read in this series (Haven't been able to find book 3 yet)ended abruptly which wasn't so bad because there was a next book to read. But this was the last one in the series (I think) but there was a lot left unresolved. A big subplot was started in the last chapter. Maybe she's going to do some more?

My review of this book is that im glad that they saves Sabines grandmother in time, and this is a very good book. KEPT ME WANTING MORE.

I learned that as an Immortal you have to be very careful on who you tell your secrets to. And your boyfriend might not understand you as much as another when you have special abilites. :)

Hmmm. I have to say I was hooked on the storyline but the characters were flat and unbelievable. Very scooby doo. They need charms to lead them to a recipe for a cure that was hidden over a 100 years ago. And guess what they find the charms in just a few weeks. How easy was that??
