I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads First Reads in exchange for a fair review. This hard cover book is not only well-written, but it also has a very appealing and colorful cover design. The content of the book is well organized, and the writing style is precise and to the point. The chapters are as follow:
1-Brew it yourself (Explaining the basic for making your own drink)
2-Wine and Mead (Rhubarb, elderberry, second-run elderberry & plum, elderflower, crab apple, fragrant fig, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon & lime, parsnip, mint, oak leaf wines, and easy mead, rhodomel, and winter mead.
3-Hard Cider (Farm house cider, pear & ginger hard cider, cyser, slider, bramble hard cider, scrumpleflower, rosehip hard cider, hopped hard cider, Rich’s hot toddy, and lambswool)
4-Beer, Ale and Lager (Basic beer, London porter, India pale ale, wheat beer, lager, honey ale, Nick’s liquorice stout, raspberry ale, Viking ale, pumpkin ale, English brown ale, and ginger ale.)
5-Sparkling Drinks ( Sima, Finnish spring mead, tepache, canned fruit fizz, fizzy iced tea, elderflower sparkle, lavender sparkle, boozy dandelion soda, chili ginger beer, and nettle beer.
Like I said before I loved the way this book was designed inside and out. Mostly, two pages are devoted per drink, one page for the ingredients and instructions about how to make it, and the next page for the pictures relevant to this specific drink. I also liked the step by step instructions, stated clearly for novices like me who knows nothing about this subject. I think this book and the home made drinks mentioned in it would make great gifts during the holidays.
Funny and informative! I myself am a wine drinker, but a lovely cocktail or homemade spirits from time to time can´t hurt! If you want to know what you are drinking, you can make it for yourself. You can start with something nice and easy like "Irish Cream Liqueur" or "Horseradish Vodka", then, when advanced alcohol-maker, you can continue with "Rumtopf" and later with "London Porter" or "Oak Leaf Wine"! Thirsty already? :) You can try more than 75 recipes made by the thirsty gardeners. The book is divided into these chapters: Wine&Mead; Cider; Beer, Ale&Lager; Sparkling Drinks; Liqueurs and Classic Cocktails&Curios. Ingredient guide is also present. The book is quite informative with a lot of general information about the respective kinds of alcohol and processes of making it (I am missing only the "difficulty" sign/information so I can decide the level to try) with a lot of fancy and professional photos. Igredient description is clear and the length of preparation time is described as well. I myself have a big respect about brewing, so I will probably not brew my own wine or beer. But I will try the easier recipes for my parties!
I was so excited to get this book that I opened the package and started reading before even finishing opening the rest of my mail. This book did not disappoint!
Easy to read and follow, I feel like I can begin concocting a variety of wines and other libations. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I intend to try a few recipes for friends who do. Parties will be a lot more interesting as I begin experimenting.
Thank-you for a book that encourages novices, but seems to have meat in it fir the more experienced(definitely not me yet). lol
Brew It Yourself. You can. Nick Moyle and Richard Hood provide you all the essential instructions to make your own wine, beer, liqueur and other drinks. A very useful guide to readers who wish to experiment with brews and an amazing collection of 70 recipes for readers who have mastered the basics. ~ http://bookreviews.infoversant.com/br...
